Buildin a LeanTo

Well, I'm going to try to follow and post the building of my 14x30 ft Lean To,

Here is day day one before starting..

Didn't get a lot done on day two, mostly planning, and running to get more supplies.
but...

Needless to say, with 30 mph winds , temps around 35 degrees,
AND...tomorrow in the 50s,

Not much done today..
Plus had lots to do today, running around.

But got one header up and , laid out where to place beam on barn side.
Gotta cut the post tops, and back fill the cement holes,


Eh ...tomorrow, No rush.

Worked inside this morning ..the wind outside is crazy..

So I got the reinforcement done to where the outside header beam will attach to the 2x6 inside with bolts and screws,
tied those 2 2x4 s together with blocks , for extra weight bearing strength, used all salvaged materials.

Overkill ? maybe, but better safe than sorry.

Day 3

Got all the reinforcement done inside,

Put the outside header beam in place using 4 1/2" #10 screws ever 20" (or every other rib) and then drilled and installed 6, 1/2" x 5" carriage bolts for shear strength.

Both beams are ready to start setting rafters and joist hangers tomorrow.

The metal is suppose to be delivered tomorrow.

Today.....day 4,

Today was a very cold day, High temp 37 degrees.
But no wind.
Fairly productive day.. The metal didn't arrive, they say tomorrow morning.
We got the slot cut in the wall above the header , to slip the flashing in,
and all rafters are up,
The wall runners are up, will build end wall and lay the roof purlins in the morning,

Day 5...no progress,

Metal was delivered today,
Set one center post for back wall,

Thats it for today nothing really to show , Too busy with other stuff.

Gonna hit it hard tomorrow,

OK, the original pics were just copy and pasted,

I know that sometimes that don't always work, but I never know unless someone tells me.

Some people can and some can not see.

So I deleted all the pics, and uploaded them as attachments..

Flashing is in , ready for roof metal to slide under,
all purlins (except last row) are on,
all walls built and runners on,
Front gable ready,
Rafters cut for facia ,

Should finish on Monday.

Nothing like building something yourself. It's unreal how much materials cost these days. Still you save a bunch of money building it yourself.

Howzit going Mon? I've been rained out probably for the week on my project!

Got all the metal on today except the back wall and front gable end.

Got dark, didn't get pics today
Day 8 , I think,

Will finish up tomorrow morning , and take final pics.

Well Day 9,(skipped Friday and Sunday)
Total Hrs 29
Put top and side metal on yesterday,

Finished it up today

This was day one...

Almost got the trench dug and filled with gravel , to control the run off from roof overhang,
I ran out of steam....tomorrow.

Got about another hour for gravel work,
Then hang some solar motion lights , and park that truck in there.

Not bad...I'm happy.

That’s a lean to? Heck man, that is a truck port. I must say it is a nice bit of work. I got tired just watching the steps to build it. Now prefabricated it and you will hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Now the bills are starting to roll in...:eatagun::surrender:

So far ....total lumber = $639.00

Total ( near useless) helper/labor = $1400.00 ( live and learn, never again, thats $48.27/hr )

All Metal panels(300 ft) + flashing, corners, and screws... looks like $861.00

Total = $2900.00

Coulda did it myself , (almost did) for $1500.00

Starting finishing some gravel work, started raining. Parked the tractor .
