Many of us here pick our own food. That argument does not work for everyone. This bye bye Biden thread has turned into illegal farm workers working for americans and getting welfare.
One of the problems? Big corporate farming operations hiring these illegals. I'll tell you what, we would of done so much better during covid if restrictions were lifted on home farming operations and there were more of them. Instead of the giants who employ illegals, have recalls all the time, take over the cheap market, have lobbyists. Sick of them. Sick of Tyson and Gates. Our food production should not be handled by illegals or big corporations or idiots who want to print fake food or sell substandard crap in the grocery stores.

I am not into your counties politics[ only what I see in the news & here ] living in south Africa, my reality on life[ i am 77 ] is that social Media does have a very strong pull on people that lack mental awareness [being polite ] the honey moon will come to an end for people being happy with your new President, because ,I believe it will take longer than the 4 years that D T is in office , I really hope that I am talking out the back of my head , just look at History Winston Churchill kept the free world together with the backing of the USA , but the opposition came into power in the first election after W11 because of promises made , so if enough are dissatisfied you could have K H or worse in the hot seat ,sorry if i upset anyone that is not my intention here

I agree with most of what you say but bear in mind many mom and pop farms employ migrants.

They can easily be replaced with Americans who are currently on welfare. Just cut off all of their welfare handouts. Go to work, or go hungry.

A legal immigrant is one thing, an illegal immigrant is another. I live in the middle of mom and pop farms, and have not seen one that employs illegals. This might be the case in a state like New Mexico, where I used to live, and was a sanctuary state, but they are not a farming state. Most of their illegals are not out picking chili, they are on welfare. This is a problem that the big corporate farms and big chicken houses like Tyson have. They employ illegals, raise or process horrible food, pad their pockets heavily...Geesh, Tyson laid off many American workers to employ illegals in some states, turning some medium town America into illegal havens, leaving American citizens unemployed. And their processing....OMG. Bleach washing the meat because it's so dirty, and still coming up bacteria ridden. Look at all the vegetable recalls, frozen as well...I've lost track of so so many. Bacteria water used to water, unsanitary corporate farms, and alot of these come from Mexico, and there is no reason in the world for this. I hope RFK does something for the mom and pop farms and stops holding them to the stupid regulations that the corporate farms have that don't make a bit of difference. I don't eat frankenfood. Bill Gates and the corporate farmers sure can, I don't even care.

Whatever the going wage and benifits are for that area and for that type of work. I like the idea of work over taxpayer funded welfare.

The pay would be whatever the market will bare, and what the employer is willing to pay.
I have no idea what a "living wage" even means.
No welfare. Some people may have to work 2 jobs if they want/need to. Many of us have had to do that in our lifetime rather than beg for taxpayer funded handouts.
In today's world that sounds like a beggar thy neighbor program.

There's a difference between illegal and legal according to our laws. There's a difference being made because of the conversation being that if they're sent back, who is going to pick your produce. I am tired of that argument because these illegals are being paid to pick by large corporations, large Tyson type chicken house, large China owned Smithfield pork houses, not by regular farmers. So the corporations lose out. I don't care. Their dependence on chemical fertilizers brought in from Ukraine makes me sick.
Yep, I eat organic. I grow and raise organic and butcher my own.

I hire people occasionally to help out here on our ranch. I pay $20/hour. I've never seen the need to hire an illegal alien, even if we had any around here I wouldn't hire one.
It's also a misconception that illegals only take so-called low paid agriculture jobs. Many illegals take high paying construction jobs away from American workers.

Absolutely they do, Mt Trapper We lived in Albuquerque for a very long time, up till five years ago. Found out my office assistant married an illegal, he was a Verizon executive. Nobody cares in that state. His relatives were there, too, and no one did the grunt work if you want to call it that. I remember posting something at our school's parent info board, a local farm that grew veg needed manpower help, an hr of help weeding would get you a box of organic veg. No one called. Guess no one was hungry enough.
