A good thing too.
We could always outrun the Fords:D.
The Chargers; you damsure better be on your game!

We tested the Chargers and were not impressed. Driver visibility was awful and interior size was insufficient for anyone but our smallest officers. Worse yet the reported breakdown rate for issues with brakes and suspension was abysmal. Plus they could not out perform the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan (the fastest police car currently made) in speed tests & maneuverability and just barely beat the Chevy Caprice. All three cars were only marginally faster than the Ford SUV in 0-60mph but that vehicle has a ton more space, way better viability, and a better overall track record for reliability.

I have run dozens of different police cars through the "grand finale" course and IMO the older Crown Vics are still the best police car ever made.

I was wrong. They were not Chargers but Coronets.
Test-drive a 1970 Coronet interceptor with a 440. Everything under the hood - straight off of a NASCAR track.
Plenty of visibility, legroom and HP:

Definitely not what you wanted to see in your rear-view mirror:eek:.
Some of you guys did have good stuff back then:).
Probably got about 8MPG if you didn't punch it much:rolleyes:.
It could leave a Crown-Vic in the dust in a half a mile.

East Tennessee Ford was just down the road from where I grew up.

I still watch Nascar some. I just enjoied it better back during the Petty, Pearson, Allison, Yarborough days. After Earnhardt died Nascar just hasn't been the same. Nowdays their are so drivers I detest, kinda takes the fun out of it. Busch bros, Harvick, Penskes top driver I just can't stand. Bunch of prima Donna punks IMO. I do like Chase Elliot, Truex, and a few others.

Friend of mine and I were clicking along a 2 lane in a 1965 GMC half ton with a 283 and a muncie 4 speed doing about 75 mph. We didn't really outrun the 440 but we got far enough ahead to trick him.

He did have to turn around and it was at night but we pulled into the only convenience store or any store for miles, jumped out and grabbed the water hose and shoved it under the hood in time for the cop to go flying by.

About a half hour later he came crawling back by the store. Apparently he had lost whoever he was chasing.

That's when we shut the hood and went home.
