I have a bag in my car, but like most others here, I usually don't get more than 40 miles away from home and usually much less than that. The plan is always to get home. I'll hoof it.....shouldn't be a problem, but the weather may make it more of a challenge. I highly doubt the weather will be perfect if something crappy happens. I usually have a paper puncher in the car too.
Anytime we are further away from home, we are usually hauling the camper so we could stay put for a while, put together some go-bags, and we'd start walking or biking home....usually about 130 miles or so. There is always a paper puncher in the camper. Hubby would probably try to devise a plan to take his beer cooler too.....after all, if we are camping we are on vacation, dang it! LOL!
I probably should get a dog carrier backpack b/c if we biked home, I would have to carry the dog on my back. I wouldn't be leaving her behind, nor would I run her ragged. If we walked, she'd just walk with us. I'm pretty sure I have a lifestraw in the camper too in a backpack, but now I'm gonna have to go check.
If we are going on a carribean vacation, then we basically have decided to take our chances. I'm not going to stay home just b/c of fear that something could happen. Although we didn't go during Covid b/c we weren't taking the required *** to fly. If something happens when we're away, then it was meant to be and we'll do the best we can. I'm not going to stop living life to the fullest out of fear of the unknown.
The comment regarding fuel.....we like to fill up the truck anytime we get to our destination so that if we HAD to leave ASAP for any reason, we'd be able to make it home without having to stop. I do this when I'm away from home in any vehicle. A full tank in an unknown area offers some degree of security.
