Is it coincidence that the market went steady up for a few days after Trump won the election? Nope.

Is it a coincidence that the market has been on a steady decline since the drone issue developed? Nope.
I don't think the market decline has anything to do with the drone issue. I think it likely has more to do with the high tariffs that the president-elect plans to impose on other countries, the costs of which will all be passed on to American consumers who will be paying for it.

Has anybody been watching the stock market the last 2 days?
I believe a lot of that 'wasted taxpayer money' has been going into stocks.

I believe that thousands of people up north that have been getting a fat guvment $200K/yr paycheck for years for a meaningless job and have invested much of in stocks, will have to sell their holdings just to get by, when a pink-slip instead of a paycheck shows up.

Those that have prepared for self-sufficiency has that covered . The downside is , what the prepared may have to do to protect their preps from the un-prepared . Hopefully everyone has already prepared to confront the desperate , regardless of the cause of their desperation .

Elkhound and Supervisor 42: You are so right. Some of the stolen money was propping up the market. That is why a $5,000 check will be sent out to citizens savings from the DOGE. So it can go back into the economy.

If it takes another month to collapse and reset, we will get another $5K.
View it as a bridge loan.

If a $5,000 check is sent out it'll be inflationary and inflation will will just go up to cover that check. In order to send out a check the money will have to be borrowed.

Economic crash? I don't care. Same as few of you folks or anyone else care about me or any other civil servant.

This week, I've cut all subscriptions, recurring purchases, both internet services on my property, and all charitable contributions to local charities and others. I'll be making further cuts.

You people on here who think civil servants jobs and people are all wastes are ignorant and I'm completely OK with calling you out on that line of "thought" because it simply is not true. Nobody should EVER celebrate someone's job loss. Nobody celebrates when private sectors jobs are lost. You shouldn't be happy about public servants losing jobs. The economy's connected and the effects of job loss will be felt in the economy. The pullback in spending from rural civil servants may well make the difference in rural/small town businesses staying open or shutting down.

Civil servants aren't overpaid...most of those fired lately earn somewhere around $50k. The firings will not have any real effect on the deficit but have destroyed those in those jobs, unnecessarily, and have contributed to already understaffed federal agencies being able to do LESS of their lawful duties.

30 years of military and civil service...some of the comments others have posted here are straight up wrong. I do hope for an economic collapse...my family will be just fine.

Plenty of us in "government jobs" out here who supported our communities and did our level best to help others in need via charitable contributions, donating farm goods, etc. Now you ridicule and make fun of us? You are ignorant and you have some nerve.

That will Really Help Those in Need, wonder how much the Ones Who Lost everything due to the Flooding will be getting...?!? They won't be having any Income Tax to File for 2025...!!

Oh, since federal employees are such a waste...there is a Ranger who was fired this week (recent promotee--so "probationary"). Her story is out there, but the bottom line is she was helping with search and rescue in NC after the hurricane, using assets to assist in the effort.

Excellent performance reviews and a solid performer.

Since federal employees are such a waste and all...

God, some of you folks...

We're glad to see them go. Plus all the government cuts too.
Just having a different opinion doesn't make someone ignorant, that's actually a pretty ignorant statement.
Our government needs to be drastically cut, spending needs to be drastically cut, government headcount needs to be drastically cut, government handouts, including welfare needs to be drastically cut, all government programs need to be drastically cut or eliminated.
Get your new chainsaw out Elon and get to work.

Do you mean 2024? Thats the tax year we're filing for now, due on April 15th. And why won't they be filing income tax? If they don't have all their 2024 tax docs by now they will have to file an extension and pay their estimated tax liability by the due date.

It's not the opinion, it's the ugliness and the fact that so many are flatly ignorant of what the federal government does and the need for the civil service to fill actual responsibilities government has to people.

The cuts need to come from actual fraud and waste, as DOGE is doing. The personnel cuts, however, are not being done intelligently. As I have said elsewhere, people are taking 90-120 day rotations from their actual jobs to band-aid other functions because hiring hasn't been OK since COVID...and now we have a hiring freeze (may be lifted in April from what I hear...?)

As I have also said, the personnel cuts barely dent the deficit. The federal workforce is not the problem. They may be the scapegoat.

Cut the waste, but the civil service cuts and reorganization need to be done smartly and over time. We lost a lot of educated, intelligent, and hardworking people in my agency this week. These are people with credentials to do what they're doing--they're not stupid. You're going to see problems downstream as a result of the chainsaw approach...so don't say you weren't told so.

mml373 does have a point. If systemic change isn't implemented than merely laying off employees and complaining about waste and fraud is not going to fix anything.

We need to repeal the 16th and 17th Amendment and the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. And while we are at it repeal the 19th Amendment.

Eliminate all departments not justified by Article I, Section 8 and all welfare. This would really change things but that is not going to happen.

I do wonder why people prefer government jobs to private sector jobs. I only worked for the government when nothing else was available.

Because why would one ever want the human touch in jobs.

I don't know what the advent of AI portends for human employment. A lot of people don't want anything to do with having to be "tech-y". I guess they'll just be unemployed in the "new economy."
Stop complaining and go find a job. You aren't entitled to a government job.

The tax filing deadline for 2025 is April 15, 2025. If you request an extension, your new due date will be October 15, 2025.

What Year is This and What Date is used for the Filing Deadline this year...?!?

Something isn't right in your example. We're filing for tax year 2024 right now. And our return is due on or before April 15th 2025. The deadline for tax year 2025 is on or before April 15th 2026. That's the way it's always been.
I think if anything has changed my tax accountant would have told me.

Yes...reasonable cuts are OK vs the chainsaw we see now, which is absolutely destructive. Totally alignment of federal jobs with Constitutional federal authorities....but do things smartly and give the private sector a chance to stand up any other jobs and fill them with preference to displaced civil servants, just this time.

Rehire the fired civil servants back into federal jobs at the same pay grade, if those jobs are aligned with legal federal authorities/responsibilities.
