My son in San Diego had a raccoon problem, so I checked on trapping. Yes the city would loan a trap an come get it BUT they were prohibited from relocating it. It had to be released into the same area. Now that is government logic in action. Yeah I want to bother catching it, just so it could be given a ride to a few blocks away. It had a hunting accident after it injured one of his cats.
The government is stupid and very inefficient. I would tell them, I could not catch a thing, every critter would end up in the freezer or a pot.

Could I borrow your rabbit eating dogs for a weekend? :) My neighborhood is OVERRUN with rabbits. I literally counted 9 leaving my subdivision to work the other morning.... I also caught a bob cat on my security camera about 5 a.m. walking down my driveway..and yet there are still tons of rabbits.

Best dogs I’ve seen keeping the rabbit population under some control are dalmatians. A farm over 20 miles away has a pack of 4 dalmatians, the farm has no rabbit problems. I for one don’t like the dog breed (not a good family breed)

they usually use a small breed for rabbiting over here, something like a Jack Russell, I live in the middle of Jack Russell country , this is the area where the breed first originated.

AND, how is the rabbit population doing in Jack Russel country?

Yeah, I had a cousin that had one. All the dog ever did was jump the fence and run.

My money for rabbit and woodchuck control is the siberian husky.

We had one when I was a kid in upstate NY, and she was a great family dog . . . but she ruthlessly killed any wild animal in her territory that was smaller than she was.
She greased about 175 woodchucks in one summer . . . and that was a gross underestimate as that was after we started counting.

I believe it - I saw a husky kill a kitten.

Was it a fat bob cat?!

One of my three rescue dogs got into my gated garden area and then into one of my rabbit hutches and killed three mature females. He just bit them until they stopped moving and then moved on to the next. I would have felt better if he had at least eaten them! Anyways, I learned how to raise and breed them but then got out of the rabbit business, it was an interesting experiment, but I learned that I just really don’t like the taste of rabbit. If shtf, I would learn to like it real fast, but for now I like more traditional domesticated meats. On the upside, my main chest freezer is loaded with turkeys, ham, chicken and sirloin steak, all bought while on sales. Life is good.

I don't see rabbits as a problem...SHTF and they are a excellent food source ,,,anytime for that fact

They are a good survival source, but when there are to many they are destructive and a danger to live stock, we have one breed that dig holes in the pasture endangering horses and cattle.

well as a hunter I don't see it that way,and their holes are rarely in the middle of a field mostly in fence rows and thickets ,,,,,,,,,,Groundhogs and armadillos are the ones that make the most holes and they will dig just about anywhere

Your lucky if they don't in the fields, our pastures are set by the season, one part of the land is fenced of to allow vegetation to grow (undisturbed for one year before transferring the cattle) this is when the rabbits take advantage and dig the holes.

While there are a (very) few exceptions, I believe that there are no bad dogs . . . only bad owners.

Really? During SHTF event a dog that refuses to stop barking is the fault of the owner, yes, the owner could have already eaten it. I have had great dogs, some okay dogs and one that I had to have put down because it could not be controlled. Same owner, same training, just different dogs. Just like people some good, some okay and some that need to be put down.

never met a bad dog yet, just bad owners.

Maybe you need to get out more. Two legged and four legged, good and bad, no difference. Except you can eat the four legged one without going to jail, in some countries.

barking is what dogs do best,,,,,unless you remove their vocal chords they will bark,,,unless it is a Basenji

dogs that don't bark much

haven't met a four legged one I couldn't get on with, the 2 legged kind I can do without.

The Pit bull I had to have put down, bit two people, one a child. Tried to bite a few family members and did try to bite me a few times. This dog would be fine one minute, tail wagging and in attack mode the next. I seriously doubt you would have gotten along with this dog. I also agree I mostly have trouble with the two legged kind.

Sorry you had to put your dog down. Now days when one bites anyone it’s usually a death sentence for the dog, and espechially when it’s a pit. I have two pits and they are both very loving dogs.

Yeah it was a definitely a low point. I have lost pets before (age, car accidents) but never had to hold one while it was being put down. I don't blame the breed, there was just something wrong with that dog. I have never had any of my other dogs attack but that one was completely unpredictable.

I have seen Pits that were nothing but big babies and I have seen them that were dangerous ,,,,,, the breed carry's a lot of baggage anything they do wrong is exploited by the media,I won't own one it's just not worth the risk to me

Pits , Rott's , German Shepard's you have to watch while they are growing up to see how they act around strangers . Doberman's are very smart but unpredictable . Chows have anger issues . Iv seen individuals from these breeds be big pets and some that would attract on sight . Iv seen Chows that would bite anyone including their owner .

a previous mother in law had a dangerous Collie, it would bite people who came onto the property especially people it didn't know, it was okay with me and wife no.2 because it had known us right from day 1, but after father in law died mother in law couldn't cope so we had to have it put to sleep.
