Japan is in trouble because the young don't want to marry and have children in fact Japan stated it's a national crises because of an aging population, two years ago china stated that it's work force and military are aging and started offering benefits to parents for having 2 or three children.

You don't pay just into a savings account and get certain benefits back in 3 different curves or bends. You pay into a system. The more you pay, the longer you pay and when you start drawing decides what you get out. The problem is, there are many retirees now drawing from the system. There are many more, living longer, with higher pay before than now, about to retire and many more younger
non-working, socially dependant persons NOT paying into the system and still drawing on it. The estimated discrepancy in the system is at 3 billion euros in the next years. Many on the bottom paying and a few on the top collecting is turning to many on the top instead and fewer on the bottom. Plus, later marriages, fewer births and less children per family. Not a bright future for my grandkids. I think I gotta prep more on the garden in Hungary...GP

in the UK we have more people than we can feed from the resources available, its only because we can import food and other stuff from abroad that its not a problem, as yet.

Savings accounts in the social security system don't exist. The money is not saved or invested, its spent just as all other taxes. SS is a tax, with a promisary return determined by a simple majority vote of congress. Just another tax scam by our government to con more money from the working citizens of the USA.

But then the more kids a couple have, the more their taxes go up... inverse from today. It will discourage lots of kids without the brutality of China's methods. Brent really needs to push to ban vaccines as well. But, historically, war is the #1 method of population control. They changed it because they realized what the disastrous unintended consequences were, primarily the "4:2:1 Problem". (Please Google it so you can see that I am telling you the truth)

Children provide for parents and grandparents in China. With no brothers and sisters, one person now has to support six or more parents and grandparents and it is becoming an enormous burden on the current generation. And that is exacerbated by the fact that the life expectancy has increased dramatically. Even without the One-Child policy, birthrates are still falling and China may soon start to experience a drop in population. This will be disastrous for their economy because there won't be enough productive members of the population to support the increasingly older generation.

Then there is the "Missing Women of China" (please Google it so you'll know I am telling the truth)
With the one child policy, females were aborted and often killed after birth because, among other things, male children could better care for their parents (going back to the 4:2:1 problem). So now there is a huge disparity in the male:female ratio, which in turn has caused a whole host of new problems.

And the "Little Emperor Syndrome". (please Google it so you'll know I am not making this up)
With four grand parents and two parents doting on one child, especially a male child, many in the the younger generations are spoiled brats.

I whole heartedly agree that there are problems with a one child policy, evidenced by your points above, Japan’s similar issues and as I pointed out about females being aborted at high rates. My point was about solving the number one issue the world is facing. Overpopulation. Birth restrictions would solve the issue in two generations. I never said it was a perfect solution or one without side effects. The point of my post was ‘I’m open for ideas and solutions’ to the problems were facing. I don’t believe there is a single, simple and complication free solution. I just feel that feeding, watering and giving a 20th century lifestyle to as many people that are on the planet is not sustainable. We will rape the resources we have and be left with a miserable place to survive in before too long. The world is changing and not for the better right now. I just think discussing real ways to make things better is well past due vs just keeping on with status quo.

Brent, a solution that does not solve the problem is just conjecture and/ or a complication. The one child scenario is never going to work, so it is just an added complication. Starvation will cure the problem. Stop all the government hand outs and let them breed themselves into starvation.

We've had a number of rabbits. Most rabbits won't touch touch meat no matter how hungry they are. To them, it doesn't even register as a potential food. But there are some that will. We had one rabbit that had a taste for fried venison.
