Yeah I've heard Texas is getting Californicated, especially in the Austin area. It's kind of sad, really. The California virus keeps spreading and ruining the good parts of the world.

@Double R excluded, of course...😉
Austin, ha! They’ve been whackadoodle for at least 20 years. This area is still heavy with family values and cowboys and I’m ok with that.

Lol my ex wife grew up just north of Austin and said it was hippie heaven clear back in the 80s. One of my shooting buddies has a son and a daughter there now. He calls it "The liberal anus of Texas"...

@Spikedriver I have no reason to go to Austin and have only driven through to get to the beach by Corpus. The traffic in Austin — that was California driving — no thanks! Don’t they have a city law that it’s ok to smoke pot inside the Austin city parks and it’s ok to go topless, male or female, same place?
I don't know about all that. I'd have to ask my ex. If they have a law allowing women to go topless, it's a good bet she's done it...

Bethel, AK the runway lights have been out for two weeks. That means that some villagers have been stuck in Bethel for that time as the sun isn't up long enough for a round trip. That also means no freight to the villages as Bethel is the hub for an area the size of Oregon.

Does this happen often? I was going to ask a silly question; do people prepare for it? I guess it is just like anywhere else; some people do and some people don't. I guess I have the perception that people in Alaska are better prepared, since these things are more likely to happen. Hope you are O.K.

Feeling under the weather. Hope I’m not sick.
It’s Cali chilly and raining but at the moment it’s stopped. More coming. Jealous of your snow.
Working on getting the last 22qt roaster of beef bone broth put in the fridge to cool.
That's a lot of broth!
And from Mama Me 😊 Drink a bit of that broth then maybe a cup of chamomile and get some good sleep tonight 🛌 Do you sleep nights? Seems like you are awake a lot.

Just drink it straight? I make it for our pets. Use up all the butcher bones.
I don’t have regular hours anymore. Between health issues and a hunky hubby on night shift I don’t have regular hours anymore. Plus the neighbor drama continuing on (posted previously in rant thread) we get woken up a lot. Add the road where everyone romps on it with loud exhaust and bass music so loud you can hear it long before they pass by and long after….
We actually found a place in Missouri we liked until we saw it was right off a road. We won’t do that anymore. We can’t move fast enough. I truly believe my health will improve when we’re out of this situation.

I bet it will improve - that's stressful!
And straight or a dash of salt - yep. It's good for you. Don't need a lot - 1/2 to 1 cup. You could drink more, but. . .

The Butt is what I was worried about 😂 I know if the dogs get to much run for cover.

I will do that. Thankfully we have our canned chicken soup and I have freeze dried noodles so quick meals for me when I’m home alone. Maybe I’ll just add the broth to the soup tonight 🤔

I lived in Bethel for 25 years and moved 6 or 7 years ago. I've never heard of the runway lights going out. Every winter each of the villages, about 48, serviced from Bethel, is isolated due to bad weather for about a week at a time. Each village has a store and most people subsistence hunt and fish. There is a lot of dried fish, seal meat, and other wild game preserved in traditional ways. Right now most things are frozen but not wrapped just hanging in a shed. They may run short on somethings but the village store buys a years worth of ammo, guns, canned goods, etc. all of which comes on the annual barge. They'll be out of fresh produce but that isn't a big part of their existence.

People won't starve but they may miss doctors appointments and they may not be able to get home. I expect medivac flights will still fly. I've been on many a flight where the airstrip was lit by snowmobiles or flare pots.
