Epsom salt soak. Try to soften it up and draw out the infection. If it's bumpy and puss filled, you can lance it with something sterile, then pour peroxide on it, then take some fish antibiotics orally in case. Ointments that might be helpful would be a B and W ointment. I would try all those things, not saying they'd work for you, but I'd do it.

I had a handnail for a month or so. It's painful at times. Today I'm going to the Dr to get it dug out. Not sure what that consists of.

It got me to wondering what a person could do if a Dr wasn't available.

Watch the Doctor closely, and see what he does. :dunno:

Put super glue on it. It usually resolves itself within a couple days.

a) +1 to the Above suggestions.. :)

b) If it's an 'Ingrown' Nail (where one / both 'corners' are growing / pushing Into the folds of the corners of yer.. Toe? 🤔 (randy didn't say, but.. Usually, that's the 'guilty piggy' ;) - then cut a 'V' - as deeply-into as you can stand to (but withOut cutting yer flesh, Under the nail..) into the Center of the Nail.. and then Wait.. 🤔 Why?

The Body will 'draw Out' those sharp nail-corners from the Toe-corners, as it responds by 'Filling In' the cut-V. Works quickly and Quite-well (Albeit to a point, though.. Once those 'pokey corners' are Into the subdural layers (causing Pain / open-wound / making way for infection, etc) if it gets 'entrenched Enough', you May indeed, have to ultimately get a 'surgical extraction', but.. Do Try this 'V-technique' First... and be aware you may have to Repeat, soon as it's starts to 'fill-in'..

Meantime, follow the Other fine suggestions, herein (salts-soak, polysporin / neosporin Ointment (or, even Better, learn / make mullein + yarrow 'salve', cuz That's wonderful stuff / great to know How to 'DIY' for Later, anyway..)
