i like the water gun part.but i think id rather go with home made pepper spray instead.of course that means going with the most potent pepper i can come up with,right along with lemon juice,garlic jouice and other needed ingredents for the spray..

I think a pumpkin chucker would be good and we've toyed with the idea of a potato cannon...but shooting those potatoes and wasting them sounds depressing.

How about a board, a nail, a piece of pipe, a spring, and a shotgun shell! Drive the nail thru the board bury in yard, but not deeper than the piece of pipe. Leave hole where nail is. put pipe down hole with nail in center of pipe. drop spring inside pipe, drop shotgun shell on top of spring. You want the spring to be just a little longer than nail and you want shotgun shell to stick just above ground level. When perpetrator steps on shotgun shell.....Blammo....No foot!!!! [Not responsible for loss of foot or life associated with this contraption!!!] [Please do not use unless SHTF happens!]

Aside from the baseball bats and stuff, another alternative would be those Airsoft BB guns. Here in the Philippines, we can modify these to 500+fps upwards. I have a friend with a 720fps @ 0.2 grams bb M14 airsoft gun shooting at 10 bbs per sec. Used at close range and aimed at the face, these would make a mean hit.
I read that in some parts of the US, there is a modified airsoft bb gun that is used by LEO for crowd control. Can't find the vid on Youtube anymore.
I have two above the 550fps @ 0.2 grams bb which my wife knows how to use in the event she is in another room (far from my real guns) when an intruder comes in. I simply told her, shoot the face and the eyes.

I'd go more with a paintball gun, and use skull-breaker rounds (after cranking up the pressure). Not lethal most likely, but it would sure deter an attacker into picking another target.
A valid point. More of a problem though, is the minute chance of someone stepping on such a small target (even if in a doorway). The triggering mechanism should be a wider area. Even if such a weapon didn't get them, seeing it happen would SURE make one wary about further travel, no?
The main limitation with a paintball gun is that you would have to rely on a CO2 Cartridge or a tank and the number of rounds per load. The ones I have are Electric (although if an EMP hits, it would be gone too). Am also planning to get a Bolt Action Sniper Rifle and up it to about 650fps.
A 550fps airsoft rifle is actually capable of penetrating skin (experience that already hehehe) or leave a deep bleeding pockmark at 5-10 meters and a basic mag can carry about 300 BBs in them. I have also the 450BB mags or a 5000BB Box Mag :m4:
Although real steel would still be a better option.
Working in the prison system for 15 years I have seen all sorts of homemade weapons. The lock in the sock/bar of soap in the sock or a piece of chainlink fencing straighten out & sharpened or the "wolverine style claw". How about the toothbrush with a razor blade stuck into it (nice slashing weapon) to the traditional "shank" made from a metal spoon from the kitchen. In the end, with homemade weapons your imagination is your limitation!
8) Deodorant and a lighter. use tape to attach the lighter for 1 handed use. for this one..you can go to the paint section in a dollar genral store.there you'll find a attachment for spray paint cans..they allow a person to spray paint without getting paint on fingur tips..this can keep flam from user as well...
While you are at it you should piss in the vents under the wiper blades you cant get that smell out either. Smells pretty bad and would smell even worse with the pig crap lol.

Many of those in the op don't work well. The news paper thing is a myth kind, you can do it. But it's much harder than it sounds. Some inmates tried that once in the jail we had back home. It got them injured.
Take a broken knife like a kitchen knife. (or an old school army tent stake or properly shaped piece of scrap or pound a big piece or square stock into a blade, or cut and shape leaf spring from a car as skill set allows) When you have a "blade" file notches into the base on the sides. slot it into a broom handle or a rake handle or whatever. Lash it to the handle with 550 cord or the like out of artificial fiber, using the notches to catch the cord. Use a flame to "weld" the cord. Now you have a solid and highly effective spear. or on a short handle you fixed your knife. Or just sharpen and fire harden the stick....people have done that since paleolithic times. Make the handle of your spear longer than your eye level so if you trip carrying it your less likely to gouge out your eye or cut your face as you stumble.

I took a dozen roofing shingles and pushed about 100 nails through each one and then neatly stacked them on a shelf in my garage.They are gonna make great doormats and guards under my windows after TSHTF.Covers easily with leaves,grass clippings,gravel,etc.
