How would people react to a 97% FATAL VIRUS......????

Most people would die, the few that lived, would be immune.
The great reset would happen across the board & the rich would suffer with the rest of us, not rich people. If the virus was fast acting, then some people would die in large cities from unsanitary conditions, because there are not enough people left to clean up.
People in the outer laying area would fair better, if they had storage of food.
In a year or so would the virus die out or mutant & start again?
Would new born children be immune or would a percentage of them die from the virus? How long will the virus stay in the area, would it die out or remain like the American Chestnut disease?

Viruses with high mortality rate typically have a very short life. Like Ebola, people get sick and die so the virus dies out before large masses can be affected. A fairly stable man made virus could be delivered in an aerosol form but high density targets would be chosen for best effect. It would be difficult to target smaller low density populations with any expectation of success. On top of that the aerosol agent would have to protect the virus from UV radiation, heat and cold as well as dry air.

Just watch the old steven king movie "The stand". I do every once in a while just to stay current.

That was the first thing that popped into my head, The Stand! The book is better than the movie!

I would set all our animals free so they could fend for themselves, and accept our fate. Even if you stayed put, eventually you would get exposed somehow, so unless you are in the 3 % it would be overly optimistic to think you would stay alive

Why not avoid "ALL or nearly ALL" contact with humans.....???
Pretty quick there wouldn't be any people to interact with anyway. :(
Any survivors would be in hiding.
What would be the point in living after that? Keeping the animals company?
Leaving a note for the alien historians to find that said: "I survived dammit!"?
Oh I forgot, there will always be Facebook, er... better check that.

Suppose the alien historians were the only ones left?

With that term I was referring to the visitors 1,000 years from now that come to our planet to inspect the ruins of our civilizations, wondering what tha-heck happened.
Of course, if mankind dies out because everybody read about some 'hypothetical 97% fatal virus' on the internet, it will take them a while to figure that out.

Repopulating the earth. There are isolated villages in Alaska and Canada, Islands in the Pacific Ocean. I have been very surprised that more people with money and skills have not acquired remote property the last two years. I continue to believe humans are terrified of wilderness.

According to the documentary "War of the Worlds" the aliens would be more susceptible to the virus.

So the neighborly thing to do would be to set up warning signs before the last human turns out the lights.

That would be pretty twisted to know that when aliens finally come to visit after we are long-gone, they would immediately begin vaccinating each other to death against a virus that was only spread by TikTok .

Or the scifi story/TV show where Alien had robot guards & the human they did not kill, had to work the mines. The Aliens had moved on years ago & robots still made the human work, until the masters returned, per their program. The Guards ran out of repair parts & the humans, found out the Aliens had left, because the mineral were depleted. So the human walked out into a lush green world, like the garden of Eden.

Because that would be impossible for more than a few weeks. I don't think anybody is prepped enough to live out their life solo for very long. And what a horrible life it would be, scraping by, waiting for the inevitable. I don't think I'd like surviving that.

Repopulating the earth.
I can just see the reactions now. I show up with my sign, "You're in luck, I'm here to repopulate the Earth with you!" The responses would be:

"No!"
"You've got to be kidding!"
"No way, Jose!"
"You couldn't pay me enough!"
"Hell no! Are you insane?"
"No way I'm doing that!"
"Screw the Earth, I'm outta here!"

We all must do our duty! :D

I'm good for 6 months +
Me too...as long as it rains. Water is my weakness...probably the worst weakness to have.

There are springs within a few miles of me (but within miles of many more people as well), and some disgusting lakes nearby. I can filter/santize...I just need to make sure I've got water.

The problem wouldn't be you contacting others.
...It would be when your neighbors showed up for a visit:

Yeah...but if this latest pandemic provides an example of how they will behave, they will be much less likely to come to my house than I would be to go to theirs in a 97% death pandemic. Other people have been far more afraid of covid (a .3% killer) than I have been.

Don't have any neighbors.

I think you are not understanding what I am saying/posting. To be clear.........I am saying, "Get the hell away from all other humans".

Get so far away, that you have "ZERO" human contact.

Roughly 50 years ago I went into Alaska wilderness, I spent a little over (6) SIX MONTHS Alone. Never seen another human and never heard a human voice, no radio, no phone, just me and God in Alaska wilderness.

Another example........in the last 28 months I have only been to town once. I fail to grasp how a human can get any disease from another human if they stay far away from all humans.
