Pretty cool article here on a deer that had some genetic "throwback" traits. I find it highly interesting that these recessive traits can persist in a population for so long and only pop up occasionally.

Would you have taken this deer? IDK if I could have brought myself to do it. In the next county over there is a blacktail deer population that throws one or two white babies per generation. It's kind of an unspoken thing that we let those white ones live.

That is neat! I've never seen the face stripes before, I'll be on the lookout. I have seen the black stripe under the chin but can't remember when it was, never gave it another thought. Something else to look for... I see a lot of white tails. Now that I know the history I'll be sure to look for them. Thanks for posting about this!

My Burberry and many of her family members have black on their faces!! Some other of the deer families around here have blonde faces! Their colors are bolder with their winter coats!

There are some small coastal and asian deer in different parts of the world that have fangs..

The next county over... Geography has a lot more to do with the how the genetic diversity either spreads or concentrates in a given population.. I've seen that before with the occasional piebald or albino deer..

theres a transition area in washington where blacktail and mule deer meet...you cant submit deer there for blacktail records because of them crossing with mule deer. a friend took me up to their hunting cabin they have and wow was it an awesome place they had forever and a day.

I'm into genetics myself. Has anyone noticed that the smaller a gene pool is, the dumber and more docile the subjects become? I think the average Bison is an Einstein compared to a regular cow, you see what closed gene pools do to humans, woke skittleheads! LOL

What movie is it?

Hubby sees a doe on his spot that has a pink nose and white spots on her. He calls her 'pinky'. He doesn't shoot albino or doe's so she is safe with him.
