Not sure why, but I am in a zone since seeing that my classmate's memorial was this past weekend and after learning that someone else that I knew and thought was a very cool guy from my hometown passed away. The guy that just passed, came from a family of 13 children. I spent lots of time in their house as a young adult. Parents are both deceased and not one of them lives there in hometown now. Here is a crazy thing: one of the brothers found out about his death on Facebook! Really crazy IMHO.

When my brother passed away last year, I tried to contact another (estranged) brother. Eventually contacted his daughter on FB. She told me he had passed away 2 years prior. Evidently they didn't think the rest of the family needed to know.

Around the same time I found out another brother (the wanderer) was last heard from when he was in the hospital with his Bp fluctuating wildly. He hasn't contacted the one gal he always stayed in touch with since. Don't know if he is still alive or not. No one knows what hospital or state he was in at the time. I've tried those obituary search things and came up empty handed. There doesn't seem to be any addresses or phone numbers for him in the last few years either. So we just don't know what happened to him. It's an odd feeling not knowing.

So in the blink of an eye I went from having 7 brothers to having 3. One passed a long time ago. If it weren't for FB I wouldn't have known
about the other two brothers.

Robin had the biggest heart and was always willing and devoted to helping people in any way he could. His biggest passion in life was his family. He and his wife kept their great-granddaughter, Vivian Blair, when her mother went back to work. He cherished every moment he got to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anytime he had to say goodbye, his hugs would end with either, “I love you. If you need anything at all, you know you can call me,” or “Anytime, anywhere, you need me, you know I’m only one phone call away.” His family was his greatest joy and his strongest love.

Robin is survived by his love of 50 years and beloved wife of 43 years, Mary Hayes Ray; his children, Jennifer Blunt (Tim) and Cody Robin Ray; his grandchildren, Jordan Blunt (Marli) and Summer Blunt; his great-granddaughters, Vivian Blair and Isla Reese Blunt; his sister, Carolyn Ray McGuff (Bobby); his brother-in-law, Roger Hayes (Charlotte); and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Summer Sunshine Ray; and his parents, Peggy and William T. Ray.

Thank you for letting us know. I am so sorry for your loss and our loss.

As I said previously, I am in a sad zone with the losses of 4 people this year, none of them relatives, all from my hometown. I had only seen one of them in the last few years. Hometown had so many smart, talented and great people. Of course not everyone was great, but there were many who were.

I don't know why the last one has bothered me so much. I hadn't seen him since 1981 when I ran into him and a couple of his brothers at a softball game in Rapid City. I knew he lived alone in a rustic cabin in the Black Hills. He never married. He had been in Korea while in the Army. Their parents were divorced after all 13 kids were gone from home. He was one of the first young men I knew to grow his hair long.

One of my friends who died, D, lived in Colorado for many years. We met for coffee in late 2019 and then COVID hit. We had talked on the phone, private messaged, and were back and forth on Facebook, one on one, and in the hometown group and h.s. group. I hadn't seen him since h.s. prior to meeting him for coffee. He was in college when the Vietnam birthday lottery was announced. He was two or three on the list. Vietnam was hard on him. His family moved from S.D. to Colorado. He owned a condo some miles from me. Both D and his sister got into drugs, heroin, I think. He got clean and was clean for many years. His sister is clean now as well. Their mother died and the rest of the family decided not to tell them about their mother's death. They were still using at the time. She had been gone for a while before they found out. His sister called me when he died, crying so hard to tell me that he was gone, asking me to let people in S.D. know he was gone in the Facebook groups. I did. He had injured his eyes in an industrial accident, maybe sandblasting or something, so he couldn't drive. He was a Christian and often talked about Jesus in his discussions. He sat in front of me in World History and that class had some wild and memorable moments.

Reading that brought chills, literally, then some anger and tears.

RIP
He was on the forum on Sept. 10th, just 6 days before his passing.
I wonder, what took him out that quick? :dunno:
