Carlos Norman Hathcock II (May 20, 1942 – February 22, 1999) ... USMC Sniper with a service record of 93 confirmed kills.

Hathcock's record and the extraordinary details of the missions he undertook made him a legend in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was honored by having a rifle named after him...a commercial variant of the then issued M21 dubbed the Springfield Armory M25 White Feather...due to the nickname "White Feather" given him by the NVA in Viet Nam.

{ The enemy called him "White Feather" because he wore a white feather on his hat to taunt enemy troops hoping to collect a large bounty for his death or capture. }

The M25 Sniper Weapon System was originally developed by the 10th Special Forces Group, based at Fort Devens in Massachusetts, to fulfill a requirement for a sniper rifle based on a Match Grade M14 that in turn satisfied the requirements for US Army Special Forces and the US Navy SEAL Teams.

Had the chance to talk with him several different times before he passed away in the early 90's when I was stationed in Va.. He was already in a wheelchair from MS and not doing well but his mind was good and we talked about Vietnam and shooting in general and his wife Jo would get with mine and talk..
One of my prized possessions is his business card he signed for me ( his handwriting was not good (MS) but I sure appreciated it.

He used a Winchester Model 70 (pre 64) with an 8 power Unertl scope in Vietnam.

After talking with him I looked for a Unertl 8 but could not find one I could afford

Still have the card he gave me.
