My short list of prepping for any War I felt would affect me in "ANYWAY".

1.) Make sure the 6 mill Visqueen is accessible, along with two staple guns and lath.

2.) Reconfirm the range markers are all accurate.

3.) Fuel-up the equipment, Move the D-8 dozer to bottom of the access point.

4.) Make ready for both mobility (re-position ATV and Snow machine and related wagons & sleds) and for five years of hiding. Check everything at "Fall-Back" positions.

5.) Confirm sufficient Bear Bait inventory.

6.) Position ladders & come-a-long for storing Moose Meat on roof.

7.) Rehang the "Black-out" curtains. Double check the pins for the shutters.

8.) Mark trees to be felled blocking ingress. Use ladder to mark 6' above ground level, for visibility in deep snow.

9.) Position the heavy logging chains.

10.) Install pully & "meat-hooks & cable" on the meatpole.

11.) Move 20 cases of Vodka to woodshed & easy access.

12.) Have $20,000.00 cash in small bills & Passport handy.

In many ways, a war (especially a world war) is just another very severe crisis.....so the preps from the long list of capabilities would need to have any holes in them filled.

But wars anywhere, result in blockades and logistical redirection, rationing and disruption......so anything you get from the outside world now, had better be prepared and stocked deep.

So that means, food, fuel, medical, communications........

If your homeland gets attacked/invaded, then you are going to need mobility.....and camouflage

If your homeland gets nuked (or your nuclear power stations get hacked), then most people are going to need NBC capabilities.

......and, if you are not as physically fit as you could/should be......then get out there doing physical excercise now.

Fitness builds capability and confidence.

Fitness decreases reliance upon medications that may be unobtainable.

Extreme fitness makes people feel bulletproof......and hence more bold.

more!

And if our opponent is China and not Russia this country would come to a halt in maybe a week.
Just one example - China makes all our prescription medicines. How long before the morgues fill up with bodies of people who are presently only alive because of prescription drugs?
some drugs come from India and Europe too......but yes...people should work out how to get some stocks of the things they actually need.

.....and if a severe crisis strikes.....and you know you are going to run out of medication........don't maintain your dose like normal and then go cold turkey when you run completely out.

The physiological impact of going cold turkey is always the worst way to stop taking any medication.

Plan ahead for when you will run out, gradually reduce your dose, to ween your body off that medication as gently as you can.

Many may be surprised at the ability of their body to compensate for stopping medication.......provided your body has enough time to adapt.

For our type two diabetics that take medication , plant Ginko trees . The gingko tree ,leaves reduces A1C levels . I take a teaspoon of dried and ground gingko tree leaves each morning . Results being I cut my diabetic 2 medications in 1/2 . In a post nuclear environment cutting the other half of the store bought medications would probably be a doable . -- My gingko trees are still a bit small for leaf collecting , so for now I simply order them via computor .

This is very important! Withdrawal can be far worse than the condition you were taking it for 😲.
One medication I take has this warning:
If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as anxiety, hallucinations, twitching, trouble sleeping). Withdrawal from primidone can be severe and include seizures and (rarely) death. To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly. Withdrawal is more likely if you have used primidone for a long time or in high doses.
Read all of those pages of fine print when you get a medicine.

If war was in progress, my trees marked to be dropped would be dropped at this point.

I don’t have a D8, but one would certainly have been handy at this point.

I’d also run my shortwave antenna up the side of my cabin as high as I can get it. For aesthetics during non SHTF, it isn’t in position. Even with the antenna up as high as I can get it, it is very hard to pick up anything in a deep valley surrounded by 10k mountains.

Can I substitute bourbon for the vodka?

Sourdough - some good ideas there, thanks for this thread. Plan the work, work the plan.

Especially the vodka and cash. Can you please post exact gps coordinates of your BOL? I've got three bottles of Southern Comfort and fifth of Jim Beam. It'll have to get us through. ;)

If there is widespread nuclear war we are probably toast here. If not directly, then from cancer and fallout later on. With the surface water and land contaminated, it could take years to restore, and that's with heavy equipment. As you know we are in the desert, but there are miles and miles of irrigated farmland. But clearing the fallout seems insurmountable.

There's not much we can do that we haven't done or can afford to do. I'd like an 80,000 watt solar array and enough tesla walls to run the central air for three days, but that's not happening anytime soon. If it's early enough and still safe (pre-event horizon) I'd top our fresh food and stores, and fuel. Beyond that not a lot to do but see what happens and adjust accordingly.

Notice I said, adjust and not, react. Hopefully one can forsee events enough to mitigate them as much as possible, and far enough ahead, instead of an, "Oh crap, tshtf now what are we gonna do?" Which I fear is what most people will be doing.

Mr. Sourdough, I enjoy your posts immensely, and this was no different.

It sounds like you have your ducks (or any other source of protein) in a row. You've reminded me to talk with the sommelier tomorrow about the additional cases being brought in to 'easy access' (i.e., under my bed).

I noticed your comment on the D-8 -- one of the finest movers ever built. I, too, have a Cat; unfortunately, he only weighs about 3kg and probably can't do any heavy construction work unless I were to use a whip....

Never to late to start people , for many years , I leave one day a week of taking prescription medication this give you 52 days stock per year at no extra cost , also I ask the doctor to give me a larger dosage of P meds that can be cut , not all can be cut , just a couple of ways to increase backup meds ,I am sure there are other ways to think of

Also order your meds on the first day eligible. That gains me a week every month, or quarter depending on the meds
