Yes but you are a norma level headed guy who is not mentally ill. I agree with limits being placed on those with confrmed mental illness.
the problem is you can be accused of being unstable by family, friends or law enforcement,,,,pretty much anyone with a grudge would be able to put you under the microscope,,,,,and at that point without proof your gun rights are gone, and I figure once gone you will play hell getting them back

Every time something like this happens the Democrats roll out new "common sense" proposals. "Never let a disater go to waste". I see the potential for too much abuse from a law like this. It's already against the law to do what this guy did and it didn't stop him. 20,000+ gun laws aren't enough? We don't need anymore new gun laws.

Yup very valid point, you end up like the UK where you are tagged as unsuitable by default.

There should have to be a LENGTHY and convoluted road to showing someone as mentally unstable to then take rights away.

Likewise, there should be an EXPEDIENT path towards showing otherwise, and getting those rights restored.

Instead, any legislation is nearly GUARANTEED to be open-ended, and without clear details on how one would restore rights, etc....and THAT is why so many of us are against it. The idea is good, but we know what form executing that idea would take.
