On Panic buying

Our local Walmart was stocked really well yesterday. The cleaning section was wiped out, no rubbing alcohol, and the cold and flue isle was low but I didn’t see anything else that was low. Of course there was no hand sanitizer to be had. I found the last bottle of aloe Vera and got it to make my own hand sanitizer at home. Do wish I had bought some of the portable wipes earlier though.

When I was in the Military in the last century we had 3 items that was most important to us 'white gold' 'black gold' 'dope' running out on ether would make for a bad day.

White gold = toilet paper
Black gold = coffee
Dope = ammo

Seems the public have picked up on the fears of the Soldier, least coffee is safe.... for right now

I just went thru all my medical, bandage, hygiene and other preps and came to the conclusion I may never need to go shopping again.... and this was with no panic buying, but years of collecting little bits here and there. I’m off to go make some hand sanitizer now.

All the stores around here are picked clean in the hand sanitizer, lysol, antimicrobial wipes, etc. I found a couple aerosol cans of disinfectant at Walmart and picked them up and the cashier was surprised they still had any. I checked eBay and there are people selling dollar store packets of antibacterial wipes, or mini hand sanitizers for $10-20 EACH.

No panic buying here of any kind. Everything well stocked, except Target put a limit of six on bottles of hand sanitizer. My mylar bags came in today with the oxygen absorbers, so probably a good time to put up my very first long term store of dry food. The chest freezer is so full of food, I can barely get the lid to shut. My wife has always overbought frozen food. Good there, unless a virus can make the power go out. These "slow" possible disasters are much easier to prepare for than something like an EMP.
Funny, my plan was always to go to my brothers farm if SHTF, but he just got back from a cruise, and his step son just got back from Italy. I guess two weeks will tell whether or not they contracted anything.

EVERYBODY: get your MMS/chlorine dioxide!! Make a 30 drop solution, mix it with 1 liter/quart and use as a sanitizer/disinfectant. No side effects, does not need 5 minutes to take effect, kills EVERY virus and not just 99.9%. A 100ml bottle will give you 2000 drops and costs only $5. Online shopping, no empty shelves, etc. GP

I think as a sanitizer it’s great stuff. I believe that’s what it was designed for. Not so sure about ingesting the stuff though.... regular old bleach is my preferred product. Stinks but is cheap, effective and works. I have loads of bleach tablets that last much longer than the liquid and you can mix batches as strong or weak as you like.

I can still get anything I want or need at the local stores I can't say much about buying on the net ,as a precaution I will stock up some this weekend,,I normally have around 10 days of grocery's on hand but I have been adding extras in just case things go South,,,,it would not hurt to have 2 months or more worth of food on hand,,,,,,,I am going to check the sales this week

Do some more googling Brent. Bleach is OK for cleaning your stuff and making the water a bit better to drink, but it stays bleach after you have drunk it. MMS will go in its change after a few hours and becomes salt and water later. BUT, MMS is an oxidizer. Which means it will also oxidize any cadmium, lead, mercury or other heavy metals and poisonous things in your body, without ANY side effects. Meaning your water is clean, poisonous metals will be going, you get a bit of salt and lots of water, PLUS you destroy all negative charged viruses and bacteria in your body. Tell me JUST ONE pharmaceutical or prescription drug which can do all of that without ANY sideeffects...YOUR TURN!

My thoughts are well posted on the stuff. I figure everyone has the right to choose any remedy they wish and it’s useless to try to change others minds. Most scientific articles I’ve read on this stuff says it curing diseases is snake oil. I believe most of the articles promoting it for these purposes are written by the people selling it. Either way, it does seem that in small amounts it dosent seem to harm people. Just don’t go by the model of more must be better as then it is caustic to your body.

Glad to hear you got a Berkeley. Whatever your plan and convictions, stay healthy and use what you have learned to trust...GP
I have two, just in case. They aren’t the cheapest filter out there but are well designed and work. The reason I got them is very few parts and they oprperate on gravity. No pumps to wear out of disposable cartridges. I have both the charcoal and ceramic filters for backups too. Since water is the number one thing we need in life I think they are good investments. I can’t believe I used to drink tap water.... even my coffee tastes so much better now.

Me and mine are preparing for this to get really bad. We are also planning for other major events to act as multipliers. Global war, global monetary reset, other bio weapons released and power grid attacks.

Do you think we will be attacked? I see power grid attack and or cyber attacks. Monetary reset would practically sink us...at least for years.

We have two Berkeys and back up filers too. 6 extra filters, but wish we had more. We do have a backup filter system. Like you said, water is the number 1 need.

Water, food, shelter, security. In that order. Everything else if fluff. However I like the fluff and would prefer to do more than just survive.....

The fluff is going to be missed by many! My husband has been looking into solar, but we don’t have any yet. If the electricity goes down we do have a whole house Generac and a couple of large propane tanks, but that won’t last forever. :( Plus, we worry about the noise.

I think I should invest in another freezer at my "retirement" house and get it stocked up. Something to do this weekend since I will be there finishing up some changes (and starting new ones). I have a couple generators in case of power failures. Lots of gas at my "working" house but need to add more at the "retirement" house. While this does not appear to be an event that will prevent us from traveling between locations and transferring what is needed, I am not sure how a "shut down" will effect travel between cities (a little over 100 miles). I also have to work on my security. Due to this moving around, most of my firearms are being stored at my son's. Wanted to keep them safe and not exposed during the construction and moving. Looks like I might have to retrieve them (or at least one long rife). I don't see this as a security event, initially.

Retirement is scheduled for June so if this happened a few months from now, I would have only one location to worry about. Oh, well. Good change to try out my preparedness.

OH yes Georgia, I am also in the middle of a Solar Project. Get the panels and all the electronics but nothing hooked up yet. So if it comes to pass that I am isolated (due to a "shut down"), I will get that hooked up so I have some of the "Fluff" that we all love.

We run two freezers now, but I also have set aside some sheets of 50 and 75 mm styrofoam insulation board to clad the freezers in if their is a prolonged power outage.

You have a solid plan from the sound of it. :) You are far ahead of most. But we Prepper’s know about 95% of the population aren’t prepared. Heck my neighbors, who are ex military, are out running around in their camper! Which frankly shocks me.

Did you buy a special freezer or just an energy efficient one? Also, can you share what panels and inverter you decided on? There are so darn many.

Nice! How are they on propane usage?

They are good, never a problem, my water heaters, stove and range, 1 frig 2 freezers run on propane. I do have electricity here with 1 frig, lights and 3 well houses run on it but have generators for backup, primary heat is wood but gas backup, so I'm not out without contingency.
