On Panic buying

My wife just got a MASSIVE reality check. We live in a very small village near a tiny town in Northern England, its litterally Nowheresville UK.

She just popped into both our small supermarkets to be greeted by the sight of SECURITY GUARDS all over both the stores, Totally unheard of but apparently there has been trouble in many UK supermarkets.

AND No baked beans, no tinned meats like Ham, Spam, Bacon Grill, Stewing Steak, Tinned Mince Beef . No cleaning products either.

That is my deep fear. When is the affects of this virus going to affect everyone in a much bigger way? For instance, what happens to the water supply when most or all of the workers can’t show up? Ditto with our electricity. When do the number of police drop dramatically and therefore let the criminals “out to play”? Am I overthinking this guys?

as long as the manufacturers are still producing, this panic just creating a wave-like change of demand vs. supply. But once the stores are filled again, nobody will buy, for example, toilet paper/canned food for the next couple of years and that will kill the manfacturers in the end.

I am not to worried about it,,,,,,,maybe in the end this will cause prices to come down,,,a lot of things have gotten to be more than they are worth

I found 3 quarts of antibacterial soap that foams,,,,fancy **** ,,,,,several bottles of antibacterial disinfectant which in a pinch could be used to wash hands,I see this burning out in about 3 months I will barely have to shop during that time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,so let the crazy people have the stores
Hope your right about three months. Glad your stocked up well for now. It’s a good feeling to know you have things covered.

Did you see the guy in TN that bought 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer to sell for a profit, but Amazon and Ebay have blocked him.

He said he may have to donate.

I've seen reports doing exactly the same thing with toilet paper for twice the price. Same situation with .22 ammo several years ago :(

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with entrepreneurship, but NOT when your fellow citizen is literally dying!!!

Stores were well stocked this morning (except TP, but we already had that)...but by time of checkout? Nope. Eggs, Milk, Water, Bread, Disinfectant, Bleach, etc. all out. For me, it wasn't panic buying, I just bought what we need for a month and no more. Sucked, to spend so much on one grocery trip at one time, but had to be done.

And that is exactly why I replenished my ammo supply now. Once the home invasions really start to hit, ammo prices are going to go through the roof. I have already started working on getting the 22 rifle on my list. I may go ahead and stock up on 22 LR ammo, even before I get the rifle. I think the ammo will increase before the firearms increase. I already ordered a Venom Defense muzzle break, supper deal on it today --- $19.75 with tax and shipping. I know it is not needed on a 22 lr, but it might get switched with my 223 flash hider. I love the design and effectiveness. Works great on my 6.5 Creedmoor and the 300 Win Mag.

'We’re hustlers’: Amid coronavirus fears, this couple has made more than $100,000 reselling Lysol wipes

The couple say they’ve made a bundle in the past three weeks hitting up every Costco store in the region each day, buying up as many Lysol wipes and liquid cleaners as they can — spending thousands of dollars at a time — and then reselling them, mostly on Amazon, to private individuals and companies.

Amid the growing coronavirus outbreak, the hoarding and reselling of certain household supplies to make a quick buck has become a global phenomenon, contributing to frenzied panic buying by shoppers who’ve been fed a steady diet of images of empty store shelves on social media.

There has been lots of panic-buying here in my part of Florida . . . but the only things almost impossible to get are hand sanitizer and TP.

There has also been a little violence, so I rarely leave the house unarmed.

I've started carrying my S&W .38 snubnose J frame (5 shots) in my ankle holster as a backup, and I switched from my Walther PPK/S (.380 ACP, or also known as 9mm Kurtz to my friends in Europe) as my main carry gun to either my Glock 19, or my Beretta 92 Compact, or my antique Beretta M1951 . . . all 9mm Parabellum. I use standard pressure 124 grain jacketed hollowpoints by Speer in my snub nose.

I load Fiocchi 124 grain jacketed hollow point in my carry gun.

And then I have my concealed blades.

Again, my GF judges me for this ("Do you think you're Rambo?"), but she's started to come around after all of the mass shootings.

We've heard stories about people pulling knives on each other over TP and hand sanitizer.

For a blade, I carry an automatic Buck 110, and sometimes one of my Ka Bar knives. I have a small Ka Bar with a 5 inch blade.

I usually don't carry pepper gas, but I've been experimenting with a new knife idea.

I took a hollow handle knife (yes, I know, most of them suck), and put a pepper gas sprayer in the grip after I throw away all of the worthless **** that the company puts in there.

If I hold the knife in an icepick grip, I can spray the pepper spray by pushing the button with my thumb. The sprayer can be glued to the botton of the inside of the grip. If the sprayer is too short, you can stack washers inside the hollow handle until the sprayer portrudes from the top.

When I get a reaction gap from the pepper spray, I can move in with the blade.

I'm still perfecting the idea.

I carry every day, 9mm HST, 124 gr. Canik TP9 sa, 18 rounds. If I can't get it done with that many rounds, then shame on me. The EDC is carried loaded and chambered. Cross draw for comfort, ease of access (sitting, standing or driving the car) and it makes for a bit of misdirection for the bad guys.

That sounds like a very interesting defense concept.

I was reading an article about the price-gougers on Amazon and Ebay. It's ridiculous and some of them even claim to be doing a public service.

When there's no tp left, I guess the next best thing is white bread.

I would love to choke that guy with all of the hand sanitizer. There he sits, with all of it, while people who are getting sick cannot find any. The lowest of the low, to me.

Growing up, my grandmother used magazines and news papers. Outdoor toilet too.

I keep a 9mm in my purse and knives in my car.
