I am a fan of L Frank Baum and have read most of what he wrote. When the original movie was remastered I purchased the box set that included commentary and the silent films L Frank Baum produced. Those were very weird ... maybe LSD?

Yes the ruby slipper were silver shoes. L Frank was a fan of a silver standard instead of gold.

Trivia
When remastering the film they corrected flaws and dust on the film by removing anything that was on one of the color films not on the other color films. As result the ruby slippers disappeared.

The wicked witch was burned during her firey exit from munchkin land. As a result she wore gloves in the rest of the film.

In the scene where Dorothy met the Tin Man there was emu walking around in the background.

Buddy Ebson (uncle Jed Klampet) was suppose to play the Tin man buddy was allergic to the silver make-up.

We saw the live musical Wicked. I loved it. We will purchase the movie when it is available for streaming.
