Cook just the top row of stuff at a time. When our big chest freezer died, there was still frozen meat in the bottom nearly a week later.

I would not let my wife get another big chest freezer. I told her that too much stuff just gets lost in the bottom never to be seen again. I found a large amount of vacuum packed venison from at least fifteen years ago that I didn't know was in there (we have a separate freezer for venison)
 
I have a small freezer it will hold a couple hundred pound of meat,,,it's full right now and I will not buy anything more for in it until I can see the bottom of it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that is the mistake people make they pack one full and just keep buying more for in it,,,,,you have to use most of what is in one to keep a rotation going
 
Just yesterday my wife wanted to cook everything in the freezer and then restock. I told her now was not the time to be out of food! With our smaller chest freezer things don't get lost in the bottom like they did with the big one.

The big one came out of a restaurant she owned at one time. Yeah, the kind you can put two sides of beef in...whole. LOL.

We got rid of our old chest freezers and moved to several of the smaller uprights. You can't hold as much in each one, but you don't lose anything to the bottom of the freezer. It makes it much easier to rotate your stores. In years past, I've wasted way too much food that got "lost" in the dungeons of the chesties...
 
Why just those two options: cook or cold? The majority here are on the hoof, walking around. Can't ask for more fresh than that.


you can't go out and just kill someones cow,,if caught you will have the police after you so on the hoof for most is not an option,,,,besides no one is going to eat 600lbs of beef at one sitting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,imagine the waste
 
The only big critters wandering outside are the two legged kind. I'm not quite to the point of cannibalism yet. I haven't seen the neighborhood cats that normally hang out in the backyard hunting squirrels for several days. Maybe they got the kung flu too, LOL.

That's it! I've been looking for the perfect name... something that rolls off the tongue... Kung Flu! Brilliant!
 
You won't find any chicks around here. I am so thankful that I ordered additional chicks early to replace my older hens. If I had not I would not have got them.

I hear you DD! I was fortunate and got mine replaced some days ago, but it took a lot of effort. Managed to get some Golden Comets, Isa Browns and a couple Easter Eggers...for their pretty colored eggs. They are all doing well. When these start laying I will have far too many eggs, but I don’t see that as a problem I can’t deal with.

Too many eggs no such thing. My husband loves pickled eggs and sausage in a jar. Like my mother I bake cakes and muffins when I have lots of eggs and freeze them. Zucchini bread is a good one to use up eggs. My husband like me to bake the little loaves and freeze vacuum sealed. He takes them with him to the deer blind with a thermos of hot coffee :rolleyes::rolleyes:

So I pickle some of my eggs but have never done eggs and sausage together. Are these processed for the shelf or just in fridge?

@Doc, I get about a dozen in a quart size jar.

I had to look up Chinese Tea Eggs. They are pretty and sound pretty good. They reminded me of decorated Easter eggs made with natural dyes done in the crockpot.

One of my sons is an avid hog hunter and both he and my husband are deer hunters so I always have venison and pork so my husband enjoys making his own sausage and smoking it. He has all the tools grinder, mixer, stuffer etc still. Due to that I make pickled eggs and sausage regularly. We used to own a game bird farm and pickle quail eggs with your favorite ingredient Louisiana Hot Sauce and sell them. The local bars kept me cleaned out of them.

"Tea Eggs" is a catch all for a number of different ways of cooking them. Not every recipe uses tea. Generally the eggs are hard boiled in water first, then the egg shells are cracked, and the eggs are cooked again in tea, soy sauce, etc. Sometimes the eggshell is removed before the second cooking. Sometimes the shell is not cracked.

They are a common snack food in Taiwan, and you'll find them in every 7-Eleven.

Now you’ve gone and given me the urge to bake! LOL. The little zucchini bread loaves are a spectacular idea! I have every type of pan imaginable so I will dig those out. I like to bake quiche when I have a lot of eggs as well as bread that I freeze.
 
The article says that the recipe doesn't preserve the eggs.

However the Chinese invented tea eggs as a way of preserving them. The cracked shell was for the purpose of letting the tea and spices penetrate and marinate the eggs. I guess it depends on how long you steep them. My wife turns off the stove after boiling them the second time and lets them steep in the pot overnight.

After eating pickles or beets out of the glass, I always boil 5-6 eggs and throw them, still warm into the good pickling juice. This preserves the eggs for another 4-6 weeks and the eggs are used in potato salads, egg salads, for breakfast, hunting, fishing or just on a walk in the woods. If you heat the juice and eggs again, re-close the jars just like any other canning process, the eggs are "canned" for a year. Other than that, we crack the eggs into a ziplock bag and freeze them for months. The fun part is if you thaw them out, shake the bag and mix the eggs and drop the bag into boiling water while camping, hunting or fishing, you get fresh scrambled eggs for dinner...GP
 
I found toilet paper at Walmart yesterday. They had two different brands and plenty of each. One was my brand so I grabbed a pack (one pack is the limit) even though I have plenty. I did check the hair care section and saw that there are a lot of products missing, though I wouldn't say it's reached the "panic buying" level yet.
I was discouraged to see that only about 1/4 - 1/3 of shoppers were wearing masks, and were often making no effort to maintain distance from each other.
