Doc,
I got a bottle a year or two ago of an essential oil blend called "Pain Eraser". When the pain kicks up, it's a roll-on (like a deodorant roll-on bottle). Give it a minute and it works like magic. I know it was a fellow here in Texas who made it, at the time he was setting up a website.

But it really works on joints. I can't find it right now (I think my wife took it & hid it! conspiracy theory...). It was a white bottle with a red box & a lightning bolt through it. Something like $20/bottle, but worth $100 when I need it.

I use Icy Hot every day for my back and hip. Also, straight lidocaine in squirt bottle.

how old are you lot?:Di've just had my 70th birthday and I don't even take pain killers;)

I have great blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. Don't take pills, but I'm in pain 24 hours per day every day.

It's horrible to say, but my injuries are caused from being a cheerleader (insert laughter here) I was the smallest and had to be on top of the pyramids. Meaning, I had to jump down from the top sometimes 4 people high.

I keep going and doing what I need to do. When you stop working, the body will stop too.

I stopped working over 10 years ago but my body keeps going, the minute some one goes "off their feet" as we say here the problems start, so I keep moving. I've seen people 25, 30 years younger than me in a far worse state health wise, people needing new knees and new hips, but so far all mine are my own, the only thing i'm short of is teeth(7 left)!!;)

we have an obesity problem in the UK, mostly due to the junk food that most eat, that's why we have a lot of hip and knee replacements because their joints cant carry the huge weights they are.
we also have kids with behavioural problems again because of their diet.
I was brought up to exercise "moderation in everything" but that's gone out of the window with the huge portion sizes that are available these days.

Obesity is rampant. If you are in public and just watch, almost 1/2 of people have weight problems . That's never been a problem for me. I've always been thin.

My knee has been a problem since before high school. It was a "trick knee" for 50 years, but a large dog ran into it at full speed last year and after that it went from "trick knee" to "bum knee". About the only thing I can do that doesn't aggravate it is swimming. I swam a half mile yesterday, and plan on swimming another half mile today.

My doctor told me to take Alleve, which I do occasionally just to relieve the inflammation. But most of the time I just tough it out.

You've only got 5 years on me, BTW. :)

I've taken to the habit of "using" a nice hardwood when I go out at night. Not because I need one, but because it's a socially acceptable way to carry around the weapon equivalent of a baseball bat, without anyone blinking an eye, with the added bonus of an opponent completely underestimating you.

Yesterday I took my wife to the airport, which is on the other side of a large city (actually a small city by most peoples standards). This time of year it's a 9 hour round trip from home. It was amazing to me to see the number of people on cell phones while driving through the city. Not just talking on the phone, but texting on the damn thing while driving at over 80 MPH!

Generation stupid.

I don't get it. Plenty of voice to text options now. There's no excuse for it really. And plenty of tech for hands free calls, but personally, I won't do a phone call while driving. I really am not a fan of anything that doesn't have me primarily focused on the road. I've had too many near incidents that could have killed someone paying less attention. No thanks.

SE,
That is an example of over-protection. What if your wife is the passenger in the car, why can't she talk then? But the phone is 'protecting you' but really protecting them from lawsuits. Oh well, don't get an i-phone! Or is there a way to turn off that feature that she hasn't found yet?

What if she was kidnapped and couldn't call for help?

It can be over ridden if needed, its just the default setting, it blocks incoming calls and texts then sends and automatic message to the caller to say she is driving. But if she is passenger she can over rule it by pressing something or other, its a standard option on new I phones.

wife and I find this having to be available 24/7 very amusing, yes I know some people like nurses have to be, but most people do not, its just something that has now been accepted as normal, frankly I find it anything BUT "normal".

Thank God that we don't have that many cops around! I'd rather see the police focus on more important things than some fool using a cell phone.
some fool using a cell phone can cause a pile up, I don't want to be near any such idiots.
there is absolutely no point in making some laws and not being able to enforce them, its the same with speeding.

There are too damn many laws being passed trying to change personal behavior. It doesn't work. Your only choice is to practice better defense driving. I'm not worried about someone exceeding the speed limit either. I do all the time and have never caused or been in an accident. But then I chose to live in a lightly populated area with little traffic too.

Back to the aches and pains posts. Today I am fixing fences and the t-post driver is heavy. I'm guessing over 20 lbs, then raising it up to drive in the 7" metal posts is hard. Using muscles that haven't been used all Winter etc. I will be sore tomorrow. The sun feels so good today though.
That reminds me, I have to put the fence in around the bee hive area today. I'm going with 8' T posts and livestock panels around the hives.

I agree. I always thought that helmet laws were crazy. If you want to have your skull cracked when you wreck, that should be your choice. Also, the tags on clothing that say "do not iron garment while wearing". If you want to iron while you wear, go for it. It's what Darwin was talking about.
