Around here we have ground squirrels AKA Sage rats.
They're known by the farmers and ranchers as a crop destroying pest. They burrow into the ground of alfalfa fields leaving large dirt mounds and destroying acres of crops. One Sage Rat can consume 14 lbs of alfalfa in their time out of hibernation. They can have thousands in a field.
Shooting 500 a day is not unheard of.
I know several farmers that will gladly let you on their property to shoot them. My cousins tell me they lose a lot of money every year due to them.
They are the one reason I want a .17 HMR rifle.

We had them in S TX. Broke my ankle in one of those holes!

I can't read this, but think I understand the different uses intended for this thing from the picture. 🤢 Maybe someone who reads this language can confirm. Wash thoroughly between uses if I'm right...

Google translator:
litter scoop and pasta strainer, French

I've literally spent days using google translator, to translate Czech newspaper clippings from Nebraska and Czech records. My gg grandfather's obituary took me a full day, due to using a Czech keyboard on the app, showing all the special marks.

Alton Brown hates unitaskers in the kitchen utensils. That "Good Eats" guy... send him one. 😁

Almost forgot, saw this today. Large roomy state highway, slight down hill, small gentle curve. There were no skid marks.

Evidently they ran off onto the shoulder, did they go to sleep? I wasn't sure if I saw a driver. There were several big wreckers and other trucks.

Probably had an important phone call or text to send.

If there is a ditch, I cannot really tell. In many places, a ditch would have caused him to roll. In places in Nebraska, the shoulder of the road is very narrow, or non existent, but the ditch is steep enough that it will cause you problems if you try to pull over.

100yds before the truck stopped there isn't much of a gully beside the wide shoulder. It almost looked like the truck wasn't under power, merely coasted to a stop. Only the last few feet did the load shift at as the tires finally got in the gully.

I had looky-lou in front of me that couldn't look and drive, they kept nailing their brakes. So I didn't see enough for a conclusion as to what happened.

Those people drive me crazy!
Weedy's rule about driving by incidents and accidents: keep my eyes on the road. Watch where I'm going. Don't look, gawk and stare at whatever is happening, or there may be another accident.

For many years I drove half an hour to work, on interstates and when there is anything, some people will stop to take it in. I think some people would really like to get out and get a good look.

My new float lever setup. Still needs some work for longterm but it hasn't jammed yet.

Found out why the well service guy didn't replace the rod with the new one I bought-- set screws were stripped and wouldn't move.
I can't say I know what I'm looking at there, but it looks like one of those engineering marvels that may still be operating 200 years from now, during the post-apocalypse.

We love AB!

I watch his old shows once or twice a week. His was the first cooking show I ever saw that explains the technical reasons behind cooking techniques. Other shows I have seen go through the steps but don't explain the reasons why.

Just the way my mind works... I need to know the why's! I learned more about cooking from AB than any other single source.

Even have a couple of his books. He has a new one I've been eyeing.

A new one? I'm going to have to look for it.
