Had a great time at the fiddlers convention today.
That looks like fun! It would be neat to just sit down with other folks, you might not even know them, and have a jam session. I never got to experience that as a pianist. Pianos are a b*^&h to lug around. I need to get back to my piano. I have let off significantly since my teacher died.

I think you've mentioned it before, but I have forgotten, what instrument(s) do you play? Is that you with the "I'm having fun" grin in the last pic?

@Haertig Picking is what it's all about for me... Everyone is welcome to play at jam session, even if you play badly. Might get a few annoying looks but this is way folks learn. Improvisation is a big part of bluegrass, play a song the way you feel it... so even old songs are fresh. It is loads of fun! But I can see where lugging a piano around might be problematic... 🤣

I only play guitar these days. Been thinking of getting a mandolin, little easier on old hands.

I was taking these pics so I'm not in them... The last pic is Mr. R, known him most of my life. Felt bad for him, he can't play anymore. I could tell he wanted too. He's 84 and now has a shake/tremble in his hands. He said his son is playing again, told me to give him a call.

One complaint today, this guy with camera and tripod. In this pic he's not in the way. He was filming for the newspaper. But then he started trying to film up close. He kept tangling tripod legs with our chairs. I finally moved to the other side of the circle to get away from him. He moved with me!!!!! putz! Generally a nuisance. If my picture ends up in the paper it'll be with an annoyed look on my face.😁

I had one of those Monkey Wrenches, a bit larger though. Bought it at a flea market just because it was so big. Over 4’ as I remember, the 5’ Rigid one I think. Huge, heavy. Never ever found anything to use it on. It was just too big for anything I was ever working on. It sat around the workshop, leaning in a corner. Conversation piece whenever anyone noticed it. Like the 12# sledge hammer head with the hammer handle on it. 😊 I eventually just gave them away when I moved one time.

Reminds me of a story, but thats for another thread :)

Termites eat the wood so all you have is no wood. That is carpenter ant damage. They chew tunnels and make their nest in it.

Yesterday as I was leaving town I stopped for a pound of sliced pork butt. While I was waiting I tried to remember the first time I came to this bbq joint. Don't remember exactly, early 70's sometime. Good bbq, best sauce in town. Wondered how many tons of meat have been cooked in this pit in 50yrs? Couldn't even guess. Every 5 or 6 years they pressure wash the soot off the walls and repaint.

Makes me sad, the couple really good "local" places closed. There are others that are "pack a lunch away", so it's been a while.

I have yet to find a really good BBQ place locally.
There are Famous Dave's and Dickies BBQ but those are chain restaurants and they're not that great.
There is a food truck that has some of the best brisket I have ever had but they don't put any effort into sauce.
They use Sweet Baby Rays. That's a good sweet BBQ sauce but it's just not the same as a real old time BBQ place.
My son took us to a great place in Missouri. It was a lot like that picture.
They had pictures covering the walls of all the KC football and baseball players, several actors and 3 or 4 presidents.

Found this recently. I do not remember this snake. Best guess it was 5, maybe 6 years ago. I recognize the dirt. It’s in front of the tractor shed and I was still farming, September-ish. Doesn’t look that way now.

Anyway, this is a subspecies of the eastern diamond back rattlesnake. About 5ft long, a hoe in the photo. Locally it’s known as a “Velvet Tail” rattler.

Their tail and the rattles are black. You can hear them but can’t see them. Very difficult to find.

Oh Oh! I see him. He's right next to the hoe. :)
I didn't realize my friend's ex was in the photo. Oh wait. Wrong spelling. :p

I had assumed it was termite damage bc there were termites when we first moved in. Had them exterminated. Had the exterminator out twice and haven't had problems since. That was clearly very old damage.

I looked up the community center where I’ll be picking this summer. It’s the white building between the little league field and the volunteer fire hall. It brings back a flood of memories. I played at places just like this as a kid. We’d play at a center on friday night, a different one on Saturday, the next week at others.

The ladies would bring covered dishes at some places, others would have hotdogs/burgers from a grill outside. It was a safe place to bring your kids and the elderly. It was a family event, some folks would sing along.

Those places are mostly gone now… and we lost something important, a sense of community that doesn’t exist today. Music was a big part of that, it has more meaning when played by the farmer who lives across the river or down the road. Real music comes from the heart, not a radio. Wonder how many have prepped for that?

Horse pic is adorable. I miss my horse What A Dolly. She was thoroughbred but was nearsighted and couldn't cut it in the racing world. Very sweet demeanor.
Even though I no longer have horses I still obsess over horse stuff. LOL. Always looking at different styles of saddle packs, slip on hoof boots, etc. It fascinates me. I love that they essentially have sneakers for horses now.

My friend drywalled his new hallway that he put in:

He also drywalled the wall where his bedroom door used to be (he reopened where the doorway had been that leads to the new hallway). TV looks crooked but its level. The ceiling and floor and crooked.

Now he just has to let me know when he has the primer and I'll go over and paint.
