A belated birthday drink, sort of... I bought a couple of crystal glasses last month. Thought I'd have a little cognac on my birthday. Somehow I missed it, so I waited a few days for the the birthday of an old friend. Having a small drink for him tonight, we always celebrated them together anyway... :)

Poor Rupert isn't feeling well but I've got him tucked in.

Yasuke. His eyes are yellow but the flash made them look blue.

Gravy Jones on the old computer case. It distracts them so they don't try to mess with the current computer.

Lost one of the 4 big Water Oaks in my yard to Francine. Didn't hit the house, only a couple small limbs sticking out in the highway. Took care of those with the hatchet from my truck.

This oak was my favorite of the 4. Been expecting it for a while, sort of. It got a fungus in the trunk a few years ago. Common to water oaks in the south. 60inches of rain a year, high humidity when it's not raining and plenty of heat, fungus is everywhere.

It lost a main limb back in May that blocked the highway for a couple hours.

The striped cane in the yard took a beating from the storm. No other damage within 100yds of the house. No cattle in the pastures right now so no need to walk the fence lines. My cousin will check them in a few days, probably be a limb or two down. We got some 50mph wind gusts.

On the bright side I'll have plenty of firewood to give to an elderly neighbor who still uses wood heat. And, this tree is loaded with Usnea, a great antibiotic. I really don't need any but I'll not let it go to waste.

The tree a few years ago... it was beautiful in the fall. Thinking I'll replace it with a white oak.

One of my favorite spots, been coming here since I was a teenager. After 3" of rain the river was up about a foot. Saw one of my favorite wild flowers, a lobila known as the red cardinal flower. This river is the eastern boundary of my plant hunting territory. Did some scouting across the river today, a dangerous place. Big cats live over there, don't like going in there alone.
