Elk antlers are getting bigger. This is from the trail cam on our back deck.

Wife and I were sitting out on the deck late yesterday when the neighbor on our east side called to tell me that some elk were coming down along the fence line and so I took a few pics. They weren't concerned that I was standing so close, I think they feel safe on our properties.

Our resident swamp wallaby apparently was hand rared two doors up from us. It is stealthy and sneaks quietly into the gardens and digs up our trench composted bread. She is from what we can make out about 2 years old and has been in some fights as parts of her ears are torn and she currently has a big abscess on one cheek from another fighting wound.

Looks like a full heavy duty chicken wire will have to be put around the garden beds as she jumps the property fences to get in.

So cute reminds me of this old song,

@Meerkat Rolf Harris was a brilliant singer/painter and musician but unfortunately the man was in jail for 5 1/2 years for indecent assault on 4 teenage females and an 8 year old and I don't consider him an Australian even though he was born here but lived in England.

I grew up with his music and thought he was so talented as a child.

He also sang a song called "Two Little Boys" which is a lovely song too with the lyrics being -

Lyrics
Two little boys had two little toys
Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day
Warriors both of course
One little chap then had a mishap
Broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
As his young playmate said
Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys
Long years had passed, war came so fast
Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
Wounded and dying lay
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew
Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two
Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys
Do you think I would leave you dying
There's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying
Back to the ranks so blue
Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

I didn't know that. Sewing it seems like so many things are tainted now.

We had Moose for 15 years from a puppy

We had Pansy for the last 5 years of her life (Treeing Walker on the left). We don't know how old she was when we she picked me. We got Fritz (GSP looking one) as a puppy about the same time and he's still here

Photos: Spider catches, eats bat in web outside Texas home

We now know what nightmares are made of: huge spiders eating bats!

POTEET, Texas -- We now know what nightmares are made of: huge spiders eating bats!

Annette Alaniz Guajardo sent ABC11 photos of the bizarre event that happened at her Poteet, Texas, home Wednesday.

She said she was on her way to work when she saw a bat trapped in the web of a black and yellow garden spider.

Unfortunately, by the time she got home the bat was dead.

Matt Bertone, an Entomologist with the NCSU Plant Disease and Insect Clinic, told ABC11 that while the Argiope aurantia (scientific name for the spider) are harmless to humans, they are known to eat flies, bees, other insects and larger animals.

"They have been known to catch birds and other larger animals in their webs and eat them," Bertone explained.

According to The National Wildlife Federation, the spiders live throughout the continental United States and Canada, Mexico and Central America.

Experts said while they usually build their webs in plants, they have been known to live in backyard gardens.

The webs contain a "highly visible zigzagging X-shaped pattern" which is called a stabilimentum. While the function is unknown, some experts think it is used to alert birds to the presence of the web so they don't fly through it.

Clearly, the bat missed that tip!
