I hope tomorrow (the eclipse) is a big nothingburger. But, I wouldn't be surprised if TPTB use the day for a FF event. There's rumblings that some think it would be an opportune time for 'them' to use HARP to create some chaos.....as if this world isn't chaotic enough right now.:( There's also rumblings that it may usher in Jesus himself in the clouds. I guess we shall see soon enough.

I don't really think it's going to be much different than any other day, but I've gassed up the vehicles, filled the frig, and did a bunch of chores that require electicity (vacuuming, laundry, dishes, etc.) in case of a power outage secondary to a FF event. If nothing happens, then I have my chores done and I can relax.:)
I don’t know what an “FF” event is.

I now have a 30 lb case of butter. That’s a good thing 😊
Me too and 32 5-9oz filets(with 10 lbs more fresh in bags to trim and freeze!) , 18 big NY strips, and 57 cubic feet of stuffed deep freezers. Why do I know how many filets you may ask? Well apparently our July 2022 Anti Covid Family "CHEAP SURF AND TURF" party with 27 folks attending was a hit.
Everyone brought something wonderful and we supplied all booze, wine and filets for all. DH GRILLED EACH ONE! DB caught and fileted and brought a deep frier for the other entree FRIED WALLEYE!!

Did I mention we had to move the party suddenly indoors when the tornado sirens sounded????? No problem everyone fit (but with filet you kinda have to sit down to eat with a steak knife). It was truly wonderful.

So we started to get hints about January they were hoping for a 2nd party... So I have been stocking up.

Sounds delicious. Would you like another long lost cousin 😉😂

I got scraped up cutting brush today. Found 3 issues with my medical supplies, need more gauze pads for starters. Annoyed at myself for letting it happen. Makes me wonder what else i might have over looked.

Its time to go through everything, restock and reorganize. Besides, occasionally I switch my approach to certain medical situations. New knowledge or gear comes along.

I've gone almost completely natural over the last 20yrs. Replaced all my pharms with plants i harvest locally. But I still use alcohol, gauze, bandaids, and a few other consumables. Might as well use them while they are available. (could kick myself for almost running out of gauze.)

I added a few more bullets to my stash. We've been shooting more, so now I can shoot without the guilt of raiding what we have. It seems to have gotten pricey since I last bought 357's. I bought some other stuff too b/c I had the cash and it was on the shelf. I don't think it's ever going back down again, so I guess I might as well trade the soon to be worthless dollars for some brass. Also bought hubby a new golden boy for an upcoming birthday. I think he'll be happy:)

I added a case of corned beef to the pantry. I've been making it more over the last year, so again, it's more of a replacement. Still, it counts as a canned meat and it's a quick meal. Hubby has eaten it in a soft taco shell when there wasn't any bread and said it tasted fine that way. I always have soft taco shells around, so I might have to try that myself.

I'm hoping to get started working in the raised beds soon. Hopefully will start trying to sprout this weekend or next week.

Interesting! It’s probably not something I would use regularly but it’s good to have in mind if I have beans past their prime.
Yes! If any of us are in a situation where we have old beans, but are struggling with having enough food. There are a number of recipes for cooking with bean flour.

There are a few things like the beans that can be made into flour, such as zucchini that has been dried out. That is called Amish flour. Zucchini grows like a weed, so it would be an easy thing to fill up gaps in our food stores.

And the weed, dock, has the brown seeds in the fall that can also be ground into flour.

These bean flours can be used to extend your wheat flour as well as to increase the protein content. Wheat is a grain and beans and grains together make a complete protein. Replacing 10% of your wheat with bean flour will help extend your wheat flour. If a recipe can be successful at 50/50 then it will go much further with much higher, and better, protein. You will have to work out which is successful.

There was a medieval bread called horse bread. It was made with coarse grains and legumes.
I have tried making a similar bread by grinding various grains and legumes together and actually made a decent bread. I didn't use a recipe, but did it by "feel." I did not use yeast. It was quite a while ago so I don't remember exactly what I did or what I used. I probably ground a handful of what ever grains and legumes I had. DH liked it a lot.

Here are a couple of links to info:

We decided to top off all of our fuel tanks. Hubby has a 90 gal tank for diesel and several small ones that we emptied this spring. We loaded up about 130 gallons and hauled it home before the Memorial Day prices kick in.🙄

We also got the big propane tank filled up, so we're set for winter.

I bought 10# of bacon at $2.99 per pound.....just because.🥓

I stocked up on more elecrolyte mix b/c I just noticed I was running low. I always like to have a good supply of that on hand and it was actually a few bucks cheaper than when I bought it a couple of years ago.

Since we had the truck out, I also picked up 120# of softner salt on sale.

I spent a month researching and building this order after i found shortages in my medical preps. I got a little more food, some comm/electronic gear and medical gear. These are the highlites...

One case of emergency food ration bars used in life boats of sea going ships and offshore oil rigs. 2400cal ea, complete nutrition, non-thirst provoking. I’ve used these for a couple decades. Taste great, stable in a wide range of temps and light weight.

2 Pack of BAOFENG UV-5R Ham Radio 8W Long Range UV5R Dual Band Handheld 3800mAh Extended Battery Rechargeable Walkie Talkies for Adults with Earpiece, USB Charger and Programming Cable Full Kit. Someone posted these radios the other day. I bought a book to go with them... the Baofeng bible. Now I have to figure out how to use them.

RHINO RESCUE IFAK Trauma First Aid Kit, FSA HSA Eligible, Molle Medical Pouch for Car Home Travel Hiking

82 PCS Premium German Stainless Veterinary Instruments Set -Include Kelly Forceps Mosquito Forceps CARMALT Towel CLAMP Mayo METENBAUM, Mayo Scissors-Spay Pack Set. (these wont arrive until next week)

Dental Tools, 10 Pack Stainless Steel Plaque Remover Teeth Cleaning Tools Set, Oral Care Hygiene Kit with Meta Plaque Cleaner, Tartar Picks, Tooth, Tongue Scraper

2 USB Hubs, 8 in 1, 6 in 1, for my laptop and desktop. Both are multiport, usb C, 3.0, 2.0, HDMI, rsj45 and SD&TF ports. Also an external/portable dvd drive R/W.

2 new sets of multimeter test leads and a set of alligator clips. The leads that came with my Fluke 117 are great if you're a bench tech. They are about worthless for field work. Last week when i had to trouble shoot the broken tractor i finally had enough of the crappy test leads. I bought 2 new sets, they seem to be what i need. (dad, bless his heart, managed to blow up or destroy all my old leads along with my fluke 77 and 87, he's not touching these)

That’s a nice list!

Nice looking order Peanut.....I think these are the good old days we will look back on when we could just order up whatever we want.

A thought on having buckets of gause four by fours etc etc. I recently had a minor surgery that turned into a real mess. The doc excised a realatively harmless subacus cyst and missjudged how much he had to take out. So he just pushed everything back down and sewed it up and sent me home with no antibiotics.
It blew up with puss and air pockets under the skin and the PA that did the first check wouldnt take a culture and perscribed a weak antibiotic. I ended up in the emergency room really in trouble and got some doxy cycline and amoxacillan and a cat scan (its kind of freaky when the first thing a doc says is "who did this").

So to get to the point of what to stock.....I now have a opend wound that has a drain stuffed in it every day probably for the next month...We havent ordered any yet but put drain guaze on your next shopping list. Also there is packing guaze which does not adhere to the healing tissue. Packing guaze is what you stuff in a wound so it can heal from the inside out. We will be stocking that also.

Great haul

Thanks for the reminder. I already have a short list of items that didn't make it onto this order. Several items needed more research before deciding which type really suits my needs. As you pointed out... there is more than one kind of gauze pads.

Update on the test leads, good to go. Took them for a short test drive. The cheap set I got $7, are a perfect back up set, chinese made, the correct points/clips for field work. The set from klein tools are probably made by the same company but were $12. However, they are softer to the touch, the wire is less stiff and the coating slightly larger. Easier to use out of the box, professional grade. I’ve used Klein gear in the last century. It was quality then, didn’t know about now but took a chance. Thumbs up! :)

Now I need links to where you bought all this!

Now I need links to where you bought all this!

For many years i bought "Mainstay Emergency Food Rations" directly from the small company who made them.. Survivor Industries, used to be in Oxnard CA. In fact the first time i purchased i was working just down the street.

In 2018 the company was bought out by SOS Food Lab llc. They have a web portal now, but lots of retailers sell their product line on the net.

https://sosfoodlab.com/sos-products/

I purchased everything in this complex order from amerzit. Only place that had everything i needed, one stop shop. Couple items were on sale, like the radios.

Hey Peanut, if you end up needing more leads, check out Pamona brand.

All I get for work. Used to go thru fluke leads in a year. I've had Pamona's last 4 to 5 before they crap out.

Thanks! When i carried test equipment for a living I knew who made good gear. I've been out of the loop for a lot of years now.

Just checked the site... professional gear for professionals. I wish i'd known about them last week! 🤣
