I finally got tired of the funky smell and quit burning any coffin nails

Living proof of how our sense of smell works. The nose tells the brain "Hey, I smell something." The brain says "Yeah, I got it." The nose keeps smelling it and keeps sending the message. The brain says " I heard you the first time", and ignores the message. It isn't until we get away from it that we realize how offensive it is. Now the nose smells it and the brain says "OMG! That is horrible." All the health issues aside who can afford to smoke! We (Missouri) have the lowest average cost for a pack of cigatettes, and it is over $6.00 a pack!! Many states are over $10.00 a pack.

I am dating myself but how many of us remember friends who smoked saying "I am going to quit when it gets to be $1.00 a pack."

Here's How Much A Pack Of Cigarettes Costs In Every State

P.S. My Mother made the best lasagna on the planet. God it was sooo good. I think my sister can still make it, but it is way past my capabilities. I have never been to a restaurant that comes close, and I have eaten it in a lot of places.

The only harassment I saw was the man trying to interfere with the arrest of his girl.
He should have stepped away and brought up any complaints in court.

Anyway, I'm not big on ranting, but I will make this observation: that Rao's Lasagna I tried last night was absolutely the WORST frozen lasagna I've ever had, just a complete waste of money. The Stouffer's cr@p is bad enough, lol... I really need to start making my own lasagna again, it totally blows doors on ANYTHING found in the frozen foods aisle of the grocery store. Seems like the quality of so many foods has dropped like a rock, you're better off making your own! And normally I do, I just lapsed into buying some of that frozen junk while relocating and pulling home rehab work, lol.
Yeah, it seems almost any frozen meal anymore is crap. Although, we got a Digorno pizza a few weeks ago (which is something I hardly ever do) b/c I didn't feel like making dinner. I was surprised....it was pretty darned good, especially on sale for $5.99. I'd buy that again.

Lasagna.....hubby won't order it in a restaurant anymore b/c they don't compare to home made. Sometimes I make them and freeze them for a quick meal if we need one. I don't make them often though b/c they are heavy when I make them and it takes us forever to eat one, even in a 8x8 pan. However, I make them for potlucks or to send with hubby on hunting or fishing trips to feed the guys and it goes over well. I never had one pre-made that I liked and would never order it at a restaurant. It just isn't my favorite dish.

Overall though, I agree with you Wingnut. The quality of food in the stores have declined rapidly.

Thanks.
I did offer to get him down the stairs myself since the four guys and the stretcher were a pain. Hard wood stairs, 1908 built house... of course, not carpeted. One platform, one turn in the stairway.
Told them I could grab him by the ankles and drag him down.
DW worked with an event planner & at one wedding the Bride & groom fell out on the dance floor as they were leaving the party. So drunk they could not walk to the car, what a way to start a life together!

This is 20 minutes long. View if you'd like to see a day in the life of the police these days.

This is my rant today.

WOW! Can not afford a house, live in a tent, but you are going to sue the LEO.

The worst smell in the world I'm smelling right now. The twins went to granddaughter's "friend" wedding and reception. Told them to be home by 11:30, no later. I'm pretty much asleep, heard some thumps about that time. Then I heard a big bang from upstairs, went up to see, and grandson was incoherent, on the floor, fell out of bed, couldn't get him to respond. Banged on his sister's door, she is wearing what she had on for the wedding, but it was ripped up on one side. Said she had no idea what was wrong. At that point he's gurgling and choking in his vomit and I'm yelling real loud for her to help, and she wouldn't. Put him on his side, wiped his mouth, nose, continual vomitting everywhere. Husband called for an ambulance. They had to bring a stretcher up to get him downstairs, four men. Granddaughter is being a real witch, saying it's not her problem, not her fault, maybe he had one drink. Well his blood alcohol was 238, the hospital said. So I had to go to ER and follow the ambulance. Went home for a few hours, and then back again to pick him up. Guess he told the doc all about his drinking and drug use. I'm sick of them both. EMT's said I saved his life. I hope he lives a life worth saving.
Sounds like a horrible experience, imho. We need a thread for the countdown until these two age out and leave forever.

Yes, with a BAC that high he could easily have died... Jimi Hendrix supposedly choked on his own vomit, no reason why the kid couldn't. Sounds like he's out of control, and I say that as a fairly hard partyer... the kid keeps carrying on that way, he's gonna wind up dead or in prison. Only possible bright side there is that alcohol isn't served in prison, and drugs are hard to come by... just sayin'. Maybe he'll learn something from this episode, maybe not... but it seems he can't hold his liquor, and in that case it's best for him to leave it alone. Good luck with all of that, those kids don't seem to pay you much mind... has the kid ever considered joining the military? That would straighten him out, most likely. Doesn't have to join the Infantry either, if his school grades were high enough and he stayed out of trouble, he could join the Air Force or whatever... maybe the Coast Guard. Sounds like some discipline (and self-discipline) would be good for him. For the girl too, frankly, but then again, it's none of my business, I'm just throwing in my $.02 on the subject.

When I was young, I'd smoke Marlboro Reds after getting drunk... only one or two, and even those were enough to make my clothes stink, lol. I finally got tired of the funky smell and quit burning any coffin nails... nowadays, I'll shift my position to windward if someone lights up outdoors. No big deal, I just don't like the smell of tobacco smoke anymore. Even with the occasional bong hit I take, I smoke it on the front porch, or else on the back step, so there's no smoke in my home. Looking out for the cats, I call it... they don't much like smoke of any kind, lol. 😒

I must say, a decade or so ago I was somewhat surprised to hear that public smoking was outlawed in Kalifornia, at least in the town where I lived. It seemed a bit Draconian, like where would the smokers light up? Except in their homes or vehicles? Seemed a bit extreme, even though I didn't smoke tobacco and hadn't had a cigarette in many years. In my 'trucking daze' it was always a bit of a surprise to see folks still smoking in cafes & restaurants, since that activity had been outlawed long ago in Kalifornia. Same goes for seeing cycle riders without helmets... perfectly legal, lol.

For ALL of our sakes, NO MORE RAO'S!!!

Nah, he wouldn't join the military. It's too much hard work. His sis is mad at me of all people. Because she says I blame her. Well, hell, I blame the both of them. We went to my favorite cousin's for dinner, and husband told them to clean the chicken coops, and clean out his vomit room. They went to the laundrymat. Husband told them to get something to eat and drink at home. They didn't. They went into the bigger town while we were gone. I've put up with the silent treatment for months and months now. It's time to turn it back to them.

Haha, Pearl, you funneh! But since we're on that topic, I'll make another observation: that nasty Matador meat stick was so bad, it went directly into the trash after a sample bite (which I spit out, lol). I usually buy the Slim Jims, not that I'm any great fan of meat sticks... I go with beef jerky most of the time. I just figured I'd try the Matador stick, but yecchh... flashy name, but all show and no go! So that's my spiel: DON'T BUY RAO'S & DON'T BUY MATADOR STICKS!!!

@Amish Heart so sorry you have to deal with that. My stepson crashed my car, he was drinking a fifth while driving down the backroads just north of where we lived. Blamed it on us. There isn’t anything rational about addicts at all. Last I heard he went to rehab and is now working at Home Depot. I don’t have faith he will stay clean though because unless someone wants to change it won’t happen.
These kids don’t realize they can die this way, aspirate on vomit, have a respiratory arrest and then anoxic brain injury. I told my step son I would be sure to donate his organs when he died that way. He still just didn’t get it.
Hope you can get a break from the madness.

Rant for the day- idiotic drivers in the snow, every time the first snow falls it’s like people forget how to drive. Had a lady pull out right in front of me today. Of course no one behind me. Luckily I anticipated it and had already started slowing down but good grief!

My rant for the day is my phone.
At 8:00 sharp they started. it will continue until 8:00 tonight. the G.D idiots trying to sell me life/burial insurance. different number ever time, same stupid f**king robot. no matter how nice I am, no matter how I channel my inner Marine DI, no matter what foul things I insist I did with their mother behind a dumpster in crack town, THEY STILL CALL ME! I block the damn numbers, I get ahold of a human after ten minutes if I'm lucky and threaten his testes/anus with unimaginable hideous tortures and vow to shave their pets and STILL THEY CALL ME! And after that, all my friends who have no life either call me up, and by the time I'm done with them, the retards at the insurance companies start in again! then, my day is shot, no matter what time I get up and I'm too pissed off to go out! Tonight, I pull the f'ing plug!

I don't like phones either, Clem. With you there.
My rant is addicts and narcs do not take responsibility. After saving grandson's life, staying up all night with him at the hospital, getting him home, he and his sister refuse to talk to me. Somehow all of that is my fault. They walk right past me and put their noses up. The thing is, it's so stupid, and I am to the point where I don't even care about them. Husband sent a long email to the child services lady that handles their case, and she called today horrified about what happened. She is overworked, but is meeting with the two of them at school on Wednesday. They will blame all that happened on me, I'm sure of it. Grandson told my husband today that he is hoping the officers did not file charges because he is on preprobation for last incidence. So he is calling every day. He says he will be off preprobation on the 18th and is crossing his fingers. He isn't thinking that child services is getting a copy from the hospital showing his blood alcohol level.

This incident is probably going to bite them in the butts!! They are not facing you because of their guilt!! I bet they both will see big trouble out of this one!!

Honestly, he is past redemption for the foreseeable future. I couldn't sleep with him in the house. The disdain they have for you brings back severely bad memories. I wish to hell that my brother had been removed.

You cannot save him, let him go. It isn't just him and his sister. It's all of their outside connections as well. That's a bad crowd that knows everything about you and yours whether true or not.

Have you ever sensed that drivers have taken offence when you pass t and pull 8n ahead of them as if one has taken away the road ahead of them ?

That is how I felt this afternoon.

Background
We have a shelving unit decorated to wine racks and assorted alcohol products. After our governors shut down the state eun liquor store for months I was determined to ensure I never had to go without my favorite sipping whiskey barring a real TEOTWAWKI.

I cleared up left over half full bottles of Cutty Sark, peach schnaps, etc. to be able to shelve 6 1.75 liter bottles of my sipping whiskey. I keep it topped off as rime goes on. It is figuratively speak the clear road in front of me.

Back to rant
So I discover this afternoon that the shelf space (clear road in front of me) designated for my sipping whiskey is filled with exotic liquors that were on the shelf now occupied by a years supply of The Princess's favorite House Red imported from up state NY. So pulled in ahead of me!

Not going to blow my horn because the move was legal.

Hmmm...

Just lining up the whiskey on the floor would be analogous to riding her bumper ( that the physicist inside me screams bad idea).

Ithink I will slow down and establish a safe following distance by find a place in the greenhouse for my whiskey cache.

😍

Let him go but never give up. 😍

I would be a hypocrite if I didn't share that I was a similar youth.

oh yeah. Just try passing a man on the right, who is driving in the left lane, with a large pickup with idaho plates here in WA. You think you had castrated them or something! Maybe don’t drive 55 in the left lane when the speed limit is 60!! 🤬 (and no it’s not snowing at the time).
Can you tell it’s happened to me a few times hahahah

There is a job I could never do. Working in the inner city was enough for me. If I had been one of the officers on duty for just this scene, I would have wanted to go home after it was all said and done, and take a long nap. While teaching in the inner city, I had problem students who would have episodes in the classroom where it was like a war zone. The other children would hide behind furniture while the problem child would be having whatever tantrum of the day, running around, knocking anything and everything over and tearing up the room, terrorizing the other children. Principal refused to leave her office. No phones in the classrooms because teachers might talk on the phone instead of teaching.
And then these losers think they have all the rights and think they can run their mouths to try to intimidate officers. God Bless all of the LEO's!

Until he is 18, he is a minor and Amish and husband are his guardians. The two grandchildren could seek to be emancipated.
I too predict that these two will have many troubles in life. If grandson continues to drink like that, he will be somewhere alone, and pass out with no one to help him.

They invited child protective services into our lives this summer by means of calling the police on us, so actually, they still have them to answer to until they're 18. They can take them away if they see fit to do so. Husband noted in his email that they are both worse, and are not getting any benefit staying with us. What they didn't realize is that the caseworker works both ways, really. She is supposed to "help" the child, but it may not be the help that they were imagining. I can only wish. The family therapist left her 8 week report with the caseworker. Basically it said that husband and I were doing everything we could, no abuse believed. She felt the twins were out of control. They should be home anytime now so that they can ignore me completely and go up to their rooms. After, of course, they talk to my husband and complain about their day.
