but you dont have goats
the sheep would probably be ok with just cold water but the goats are Boer and Kiko mixes ( meaning from climates not anywhere near as cold or not cold at all)
Thats a good point. I don't know anything about goats. We have been talking about getting some goats, and have a lot to learn first.
I'm going to buy a propane stock tank heater before next fall. It might keep the water warm enough for goats. Down to the south of us there are several people with goats. But down there it's generally above freezing in the daytime all winter. At our elevation we seldom have a day above freezing from the first of November until mid April.

Lots of people have goats up north. The difference is, they are out doors year round and acclimated. Because you keep your animals mostly indoors and on easy street, no insult intended, you are stuck catering to them now.

My horse from Egypt dang near froze her rear off in quarantine in late fall Canada. They didn't understand that she had just come from 40C temps to -5 temps and refused to put the provided blanket on. One year in Texas and one year back in Canada outdoors, she could handle pretty much any weather without help and drank ice water like any other critter including the goats.

The rubber pans are your friend and the animals really don't need the water warmed up. However, I understand you not wanting to risk your livelihood or your critters health if you don't have a good feel for the cold.

I can't sleep. Had a major blow up on the big yellow vehicle this pm. One strapping big lad was having a bad hair day, apparently due to a shortage of baking powder in his system. He spouted various colorful expressions at various unamused recipients until one returned the verbal assault with a face full of axe body spray while simultaneously gassing the whole assylem.

That led to a fist in the sprayers face followed by a beat down with the actual spray can on the not wasted enough lad who started the whole mess.

A dog pile ensued with other lads trying to separate the two love birds. I get the yellow banana pulled over and with only one very loud "WHAT'S GOING ON BACK THERE!!!!!!!! "(Pearl would be proud) The dog pile melted and the fight stopped. I then had to deal with the original ***** and finally ended up giving him the boot onto the side of the road where the cops picked him up.

They haven't fired me yet, but one can always hope.

I don't know how you do what you do!!

Acclimation is the key! There have been a few on this forum lately that sit in their warm houses up north and laugh at the unusually cold weather! They don't have animals, or understand that this weather is not normal!! @sonya123 has to do what she does for her animals, they would get sick just kicked out in the weather!! My German Shepherd couldn't just go live outside, he's a house pet basically, he doesn't have the coat for it! @ClemKadiddlehopper 's Shepherds are outside dogs with a job, I bet they would hate having to be inside! Many people and animals couldn't live down here during a 100-110° summer! My donkey has a good winter coat right now, it's been stupid cold! There are 70° temps in the upper coming forecast, not nice for the animals that had to make the adjustment for northern temps! So my rant is, if you are sitting in your climate controlled house, 🤫🤫🤫!!

there are goats that do just fine in cold weather, you just need to research what type. Generally they will need a shelter for in bad weather and they don't like getting wet a lot. But you are good at building sheds so that shouldn't be a problem :)

... at hundreds of miles per hour ...

... will also be the second largest vacuum chamber in the country ...

... constructed above and below ground ...

... all of the electronics, magnets and power controls in the pod rather than outside the tube ...

... also plans on making the pods driverless ...

... “I think hyperloop will be the safest mode of transportation because you are in the tube" ...

OK, so I am supposed to get into a pod, in a tube, underground, in a total vacuum, going many hundreds of miles per hour, with everything that makes the pod work contained inside the pod, which is controlled by AI and has no driver or onboard repairman to fix it, while I sit there waiting for rescue, in my stalled pod, in a vacuum, underground, with only the oxygen left in the pod, (which is currently broken), to breath, while dozens of other pods are coming down the same tube, right at me, at hundreds of miles per hour.

What could be safer than that?!

adding to my post: you could get any goats that do well in Switzerland for example like Saanens or Alpines. The previous owner of our farm had a goat farm here and he had Saanens ( the pretty white goats, not too big).

Things finally thawed out but water didn't come back. Went out to check and saw this in the pump house. Easy fix. It's to an outdoor line. Cap the PEX for now.

After capping it we found that the real problem was this:

New pump was $800 with expedited shipping but earliest expedited shipping is the 28th. Gonna have to call the well service guy too bc my friend will be out of town.

Need to get some kind of tarp back up to keep it from getting so cold. Cows knocked the previous one down. Magnets didn't hold up for the last one.

This is exactly why I feel that those who make fun of the south getting unusual cold weather suck!!

The sad thing is, my pump probably would have been fine if the redacted float switch hadn't failed $60 or $70 (depending on which one I get) before the 11% sales tax to get a new switch. Stupid thing doesn't sense when the float is down and won't kick on. I need to figure out something that will prevent the jet pump from running if the cistern is too low. Preferably something with a manual override. But needs to work with 230vac 1HP pump and not be too difficult. I wish the shed was in range of the wifi and that I could rig some smart device to tell me when the cistern is too low and that I could manually tell the pump to shut off from my phone or computer like I can do with the hvac controls.

I also need to get outlets installed out there so we can add heaters for winter and fans for summer. Still want to rig some sort of solar powered fan and solar powered lights to be able to have lights and cooling in the shed when power is out. Thinking of using some LEXEL to secure Reflectix to the insides of the shed walls and ceiling, putting a couple tarps over the doorway and adding a tarp zipper at their seams in the doorway.

My rant is that's it's 16° here again this morning!! This has been a long cold snap, not normal!!
Global Warming.

In Ohio its back to winter, I put my t-shirt back on.

RANT: When will Vance Outdoors get HP-38 powder back in stock?

Second rant: The culvert under our road (big 6' tall culvert) is full of large debris from the Christmas flood! Which means the road will flood during the upcoming rain this week! I called the county about it the end of December. I'll be calling again today!! Property taxes here are high, they need to do their jobs!

I felt sick most of the day. Was nauseous and fighting the urge to throw up. Pepto eventually kicked in, but I was curled up in a ball until 4pm and then went to go get the JB Weld to see if I could glue the pump casing back together. My friend's idea that I doubt will work. Had one idiot run through a stop sign when I had right of way and I had to slam on the brakes. Then I got stuck behind another idiot who decided to drive in the middle of the road (blocking me from getting around) while going 20mph. I eventually managed to get around him when the road widened in a spot.

Then Mom was angry at me because she didn't want it to be Friday and apparently I'm the villain for letting her know what day of the week it was. She argued with me and screamed at me. No idea why she was angry about it being Friday or angry at me in particular for letting her know. She was hungry but refused to tell me what she wanted bc she was screaming at me about "why is it Friday?" I had to ask my brother to find out what she wanted to eat so I could make it for her because she refused to communicate with me. She's never been mad at me over telling her what day of the week it was before so I don't know WTH that was about. Brother managed to slowly pull some words out of her to find out what she wanted and I made it for her. She did start communicating a little better after she found out I was cooking for her.

The reason Fridays matter to her is bc some ******** religious figure said that all Catholics should stop eating meat on every Friday and not just during lent. She doesn't go to church, doesn't practice any aspect of the religion, doesn't give up anything for Lent, doesn't celebrate any of the holidays anymore-- but the ONE thing she does to pretend she is still part of the religion is to refrain from eating meat on Fridays, making a big deal about it, and making my job harder.

Sometime in the middle of the night after 2am she woke me up saying she needed water to take her medicine. I'd just gotten into dream sleep. Haven't been able to get back to sleep since. But she appreciated the water.

Meanwhile. I paid expedited shipping for the new jet pump and they claimed it shipped yesterday but when I checked UPS they said the label was created and they haven't actually received it yet. I will be so mad if it doesn't arrive on time.

Meanwhile, my brother will not shut up about how much "this house sucks", "there's no space on the counters" (which are piled up with HIS stuff), the water not working sucks, etc. Yeah, I get not having running water sucks but its not like he ever washes dishes or cleans the toilets. And its not like I can make the new pump arrive faster or magically fix the broken one. Trash on the floor that he trips over? Not his fault even though he's the one who is supposed to take out trash and the trash he's tripping over is his own that he dropped on the floor instead of putting in the trash can-- but "this house sucks" is his excuse. No accountability whatsoever.

While standing in line today at the market, there were two extremely obvious liberals sharing their thoughts on how wonderful life was under Biden. I didn’t get involved, but I came to the conclusion that most liberals are so stupid, if the government tells them **** is good to eat…they’ll try a spoonful. Hell…the may even ask for for a second helping.

Replace the busted stuff with this:

Is it just the housing cracked or is it more serious? they make epoxy for engine blocks that should repair it nicely, but you have to know what to ask for!

My rant is I'm doing OK, I would like to remain to be OK, in another 800$ I'll be out of debt and back to building my preps again!
