Another twist - Some of the Mexican Restaurants have closed due to the employees have disappeared . That is ok by me , but I hope the Chinese restaurants stay open " though Doubtful that will be the case " .
Homemade mexican food is pretty darn good. I can do without those restaurants

It's expensive and alot of the time I think I could of done a better job cooking it. I can taste a premade microwaved meal a mile away.
Olive Garden is one of those places that were a treat once upon a time. Now it's expensive, and they don't cook their sauces and stuff inhouse, it comes in plastic bags they heat up and pour. I can open up a can of Ragu if I want that and it won't cost $20

I love Asian food, so we will have to pay extra for ingredients, but many are Korean not Chinese, so will they have tarrifs also? Not a fan of Mexican food, but I do like Avocados

Honestly, I don't see why there needs to be tariffs on stuff that isn't produced in the US. Food is one minor thing, but wait until it costs even more to fix your vehicle because the parts are all made in Mexico . And why are they made in Mexico? Because unions and the EPA made things too expensive to produce in the US. Well guess what, the unions and the EPA are still here.
Either way you turn it , everything is going to get WAY more expensive. Think about what the US produces, grain, cows, and weapons. We won't starve, but there will be a lot less variety of food. Plus farmers that used to sell grain will now have to pay tarriffs to sell their stuff to China. This is not a good thing if you ask me. I just don't see a benefit to it

So far I don't see a downside of these tariffs. I'd be fine if we never see a Chinese made product again, and wouldn't care if all the Mexican restaurants shut down. We seldom go out to eat anyway, it's too expensive.
The downside is that everything will cost the extra 20 % for the tariffs
I don't have an extra 20% to spend on everything

Trump promised to do something about price increases and inflation but with this he is going to make it worse

I doubt very much that we'll see any price increase in anything due to the tariffs. These are targeted tariffs affecting certain things, not across the board.
I can't think of anything that we need to get from China anyway.

bamboo shoots LOL
( I use them a lot and they only come from China, but I think I can still afford a can if it goes up by .50cents...)

The big thing is going to be vehicle related, oil , vehicle parts , equipement
Food is really a minor thing to us, we can grow a lot and have a lot of rice stored

oh and everything plastic is made in China, I don't think there is a plastic factory left in the US

Before we get too worked up about tariffs, we need to see what the tariffs are actually on. Besides, many companies have already started to relocate back to the US, or have plans on moving back. I think that's all good for our citizens and our country. I'd rather see our people working than some Chinese slave.
There are tons of companies in the US producing cheap plastic crap just like China. Everything I buy I always look to see where it's made. The only country that I have a problem buying from is China. China is our enemy.

This is why preppers prepared . We just didn't know which of several S.H.T.F. scenarios would unfold . Hopefully there are others on here that could simply hunker down and " never " buy food or any Chinese junk . Unfortunately many didn't take prepping to that level . Whatever the future is about to reveal - The prepared and the unprepared will see the divide widen as hunger sets in and homelessness increases , at least in the first year . We will see the sun of prosperity rise and shine upon us after a year or two . As preppers always knew many didn't make the correct decisions for S.H.T.F. no matter how many times they were warned as to what was coming .

In a website far far away...

I posted an evaluation that an EMP event would be most devastating to the world as we know it. Preparing for an EMP includes all threats save weather fire etc

1860 is a reasonable target date for rebuilding society and technology. Could get laughing gas for tooth extraction. Coal fired steam ran the world. No electronics involved

I think we can and probably have agreed with a deficit over 34 trillion dollars it is going to be hard and painful to fix. If it can be fixed. Even if we don't fix it we in for a lot of pain.
I have told coworkers that the people hanging on by their fingernails thinking things would get better on Jan 21 are in for a rude awakening. I think America will get better but not fast.

--- It appears Pinball has been following this forum site " great " . On this link he is echoing what I have been posting . " Cascadian " also seems to have a full grasp on things to come . -- From a different source this morning " more meat plants closing in addition to the one that I was referring to on an earlier post . Illegal workers " not showing up " . Some things we " can't grow " in most regions of the U.S. so stockpiling is an option " such as Coffee . I know so for tariffs haven't hit coffee growing regions , but coffee drinkers don't want to wait until it does . Fun times ahead for preppers but unfortunately horrific times for those for whatever reason or excuse has not .

What good is LTS food that only needs water.....???

If you don't have several sources of pure fresh water...??
LTS food stays good after the people that live where it doesn't snow or rain or have any streams or lakes expire so I can come thru and scavenge?

In dry country store water for the initial crash, in deathly cold store a wood stove and fire wood.

With the exportation of illegals the food banks etc will have more funds and resources to help out americans..
