Remember the good ole days, before Joe Bribem & Komrade Kumala, when Dollar Tree was still a Dollar?

i fell into a pot of gold in 1984....started out at $7/hr and unlimited over time...many recall hardtimes in 80's...i recall long very hard hours but plenty of money...mostly...lol...got hired because i knew how to use tools..like cutting torches, welder etc and grew up on farm doing stuff and could operate stuff..forklifts etc. willing to do hard nasty jobs and long hours.

now i am a wimpy old fat man !! be 59 in spring!! i wanted to be tough when i grew up...to late now for that....i failed !

A lot of it is, but you can find some good things at good prices. Some of the items are brand names, but made in smaller sizes, which can be ideal for a BOB or EDC. IMHO we buy many things where quality just doesn't matter. Do you lokk for quality in a candle or brown wrapping paper? Is a greeting card for any occasion worth the $5-$8.00 at Hallmark or would a $1.00 greeting card work just as well? Plastic dishes for a party or camping. Aluminum pans and baking dishes that will be discarded?

You can find some good value in those stores.
I'm going down south on Thursday to pick up some lumber. On the way down there is a cigar store that I like to stop at, its next to it is a Dollar store. I'll stop in a check it out.

Are you kidding? 59 ain't old! And fat can be shed. My dad was 94 when he died. He was still hanging out in the bars getting in fights at 85. He was in great shape until he died, except for a little dementia.

100%, I'm with you. You'll also remember there was a time in history where the government dollar was one-for-one based on the gold standard... for a cash-in purpose. The RUN on banks was part of the equation when it was eliminated. Hence, my comment.
Recently I came across a graph showing the inflation from the 1600's to the present time. With the exception of a couple little blips like during the Civil War, the graph was virtually flat up until around the start of the income tax. Then when we went off the gold standard it went up like a sky rocket, and it's continuing to go up. I'll see if I can find a link to it.

Well you have a good attitude anyway. I'm 67 now and have some back issues but that doesn't stop from doing whatever needs to be done around here.
I do take advantage of the old timer discount sometimes and occasionally I'll take the military discount too. But usually I forget to ask about the discounts.
