I saw scrap birds made at a show last year, and have been meaning to try some. The kind of thing you'd make in an evening by hand. Usually I just make lavender bags etc. Just wondering if anyone makes anything interesting from their scraps?

My aunt would go nuts over this thread!
She used to make patchwork quilts for the veterans at her quilting club, She has a quilting frame and all that. literally hundreds of denim potholders, comforters, a camouflage hunting cape, multiple pet beds, chair slips, and enough gun socks for the army! LOL

I use my scraps to make potholders, hot pads, Christmas Ornaments like your little birds.
Christmas ornaments birds have the child's name,date/year and age of each child on the bird's tag.
I also make place mats out of grandchildren's clothes and scraps.
Doll baby quilts come to mind too.

I’m really good at setting my useable sized scraps for a “future” project. Really small stuff gets tossed or put into the stuffing bag.
Does anyone make "Jerky bags" out of bleached-out blue jeans legs? Those things last forever!
I had a GF once who had a really cool purse made out of some Daisy Duke shorts. You could stuff
A 6 pack, four whoppers, and a bong in that thing, and fill the outer pockets full of stuff.

At one time any scrap fabric that was about the size of your palm went in the ...tractor shed... rag bag...

Saving mine for a rainy season when I'm old-er. The way my arthritis in my hands is going might be soon-er.
I have a lot of plans, including making Christmas tree ornaments stuffed, embroidered on, of little animals and heart shapes; sachets filled with rose petals or lavender buds...or cedar shavings, to put in closet or chest. Found a lot of cute patterns on p*interest for pin cushions that could easily use scraps.
Do any of yall still use pin cushions? I have mentioned the ancient pin keeps I have that were made by my great aunts? so probably 100 years old by now. LOL
If I wasn't working full time I would be doing a lot of this kind of stuff.

Estelle and I have decided that she will be making a pin cushion for her first sewing project for Brownies(Girl Scouts).

I have an antique notions collection (sorta) - would love to see those pin cushions. Yep, I still use mine.
I've done lots of things with scraps. This is a quilt I made when I had a bunch of Christmas fabrics.
I've also given random scraps to a preschool to use for crafts, to a quilting friend to use in scrap quilts and donated scraps or smaller chunks to quilt clubs to make raffel or charity quilts.

Too well I remember teaching my daughter and a couple young neighbor ...bush grand daughters... to use my old Kenmore craft sewing machine.. No one bled over the process, but all got pinched fingers working too close to the thumb screw that holds the needle in the arm.. Just part of the learning process...
With it I pinched the snot out of my fingers a number of times, and that machine was rugged enough an amateur like me couldn't wreck it easily..
Keep bandaids and ice cream handy to treat wounds as necessary..
