It's already starting to snow, temps are dropping 5 Degrees an hour and I just set the pipes to drip. Now to enjoy my fried chicken and a sud.
We heat over 99% with wood. When I built this house I installed a forced air propane furnace with heat pump. That way when we go somewhere for the day I set the thermostat to 61 degs and it it keeps the house from getting too cold. Even when we're gone all day the furnace seldom comes on.We cut and split a lot! We burned a cord of wood this winter already, but it's the only heat. We have SIX cords split and stacked. We cut and split so much so we ALWAYS have wood. We have a cord or more cut waiting to be split now! We are blessed to have access to so much wood and to be able to process it!!
Damn, that's a lot of wood.We go through about 7 or 8 cords of wood per winter.
I think we go through almost that much.We heat over 99% with wood. When I built this house I installed a forced air propane furnace with heat pump. We go through about 7 or 8 cords of wood per winter. Almost all of our wood is cut on forest service land that surrounds our property. A lot of times I just cut a tree down and drag it home with the tractor.
Not for the next few days, you might be wanting firewood!! It's hard to believe how far south this cold air is going!!Aw c'mon now, this thread is about global warming, not firewood warming.
I moved 500 miles to south Louisiana when I retired to get me some.
It is wonderful!
I only burn cash... that I send to the electric company. Not for the next few days, you might be wanting firewood!! It's hard to believe how far south this cold air is going!!
The rub is if your power lines go down.I only burn cash... that I send to the electric company.
I think I have bragged enough about our awesome central system. It don't run long, and keeps us toasty warm.

Just a simple question , you all talk about a cord of wood, I am interested to know how much that is & how do you measure the amount, only ever seen cord spoken about on here , I am in south Africa on the coast , summer down here at the moment here in the 30+ c temp 80+ humidity , I produced last week 60.1 kw solar power in one day [240vt] used it all ,my 20 kw of batteries were fullWe heat over 99% with wood. Old 8' pick up beds could hold a cord, stacked to the top of the cab. I've seen many people selling pick up truck loads in today's smaller truck beds and level to the bed and calling it a cord!!A rick of wood is half of that. Most of what we see is sold by the rick. Although we see some being sold by weight or wagon load (pulled by tractor) if they're amish, or sold by pickup truck bed filled to the top if english.
Our last load we got was by wagon, and it was really good hedgewood, and I asked for pieces that are not too big, since I'm in charge of the woodburner at home.
