A shave horse and a nice hickory limb would work nicely. Cut it to the length you want when it fits the hoe right.

BTW I have a similar hoe I purchased a few years ago. I love that thing for certain jobs. Here is the one I have. They also sell various handles. They may have something that will fit your needs.

I was catching up in this thread and noticed the wire/fencing tools. A friend sent me this clamp, basically for tightening and tying off wire. I was born on this farm, didn't look like any fencing tool I'd ever seen.

But it works great!! I have old spools of 14g steel electric fence wire that I use for tying, repairing other fencing etc. The clamp will break 14g wire but it takes a lot to do so. It's really good for patching up the chicken pen and coop. I can get the wire very tight.

I used this old hay rake as a kid. It was a work out raking a field into windrows with that thing, and slow. Dad and I took turns on the tractor or rake (17acres). A few years later I built the chisel plow for dad in trade school. I used a coil spring to give some movement, don't want to snap a chisel on a rock. (think it came out of a buick)

I have a question for y'all. I have an old grub hoe in need of a new handle. I purchased a new handle. It's one of the ones that about 3' long. Well, it's evidently made for newer (rhymes with sewer!) tools. The collar is much larger than the handle diameter. I looked on Lehman's - no luck. Does anyone know of someplace that I might get one? Or does anyone here make them? Better to find someone locally who might make one? Other?

Something looks wrong!! It looks like you stuck it in the ground and it eventually killed the weed!! Now you just pick the whole thing up and beat the existing weeds with the rock like dirt stuck to it!!

This was a socket set my dad brought home when I was a kid. Sometime in the late 60’s, early 70’s. He was a tool and die maker so I know he got it through work. Continental made a lot of machine shop equipment that he used. I remember using a large horizontal bandsaw when I worked at dad’s company a decade later. It was made by Continental.

Anyway, the label is almost unreadable and the box is badly rusted. I’m going to clean it up, stop the rust then prime and paint it. I have all the sockets, they are in good shape.

@SoulSeeker I had a thought, the plastic insert that held the sockets is falling apart. Don’t you make plastic parts for your trains, have a small CNC machine? If I send you a photo of the insert could you copy it out of a block of plastic.

I’m not seeking to restore it like new but would like to make it usable again.

I do have a piece of black plastic that would do the job. Just guessing the size I'd say I could make it 2 layers with the top one cut to hold and the bottom solid. I'd rather see something thicker, mine is 1/8 inch. You can use some vinegar to remove the rust and keep what's left of the finish or blast it and repaint. If you go online you might find a copy of the label or get a good photo of that one and work with it. Give me some dimensions and I'll see what I have.

@Peanut - Can you post the pic of the plastic insert here? Also with exterior dimensions.
I think I have several of those sets (not sure of the brand) so maybe I can find something for you.
Don't know if this is an option, but I use what's pictured below a lot. You may be able to cut the handle off and cut it down to size.

No, I can’t post a photo of the old insert. It was literally in pieces and only a couple pieces were there.

However, on ebay I found a 21 piece continental, it’s made in japan, below. Dad’s was also a 21pc but made in taiwan. It’s slightly different but close enough. The box is 5 3/32, 11 3/16 inside dia. And 11/16ths deep, bottom only. Those numbers are approximate because the box lip is slightly bowed out around the edges.

Dad was a tool and die maker and had a lot of specialty socket sets. I had catscan and mri specific sets. We both had several large sets of normal SAE and metric sockets. We managed to keep them in good order until about 2015. Afterwards he and I both had serious health issues and my great nephew bought the cattle and ran them here. The shop and all the tools soon turned into a disaster (of biblical proportions ).

I have over 100lbs of sockets. Almost all are currently soaking in gasoline waiting to be cleaned and sorted. Most no longer have boxes so I’ve been buying socket rails. I have a roller box with drawers they will go into.

The only set I’d like to get close to it’s original ‘look’ it the little continental set that belonged to dad. I’m not seeking to restore it precisely to the original specs. I’d be happy with getting it to look close to original.

I checked. Sorry, I don't have one that will fit. The ones I do have with the plastic inserts have very, very thin plastic. Thinner than what you get from a grocery store item.

Ok, I see what your after. It won't happen right away but I'll be working on it. I think I have enough to do it. I need to scale the pic and the tool troughs, make a program and let it rip.
