Erm I thought the world was supposed to have collapsed in hell and damnation by now according to the outbursts of the Democrats in the US ?
I've always tried to make my preps all encompassing , what will do for one event will also do for others, people have tried to get me to make list of what I think might happen but I don't have a crystal ball, I just know something is coming. I think we are closer to a societal collapse event now than at any time in our history, but you just cant convince some people, well I cant.If one is prepared it really doesn't matter on any approaching event
Hell they are just pissed because Clinton lost is all.....Of course we did not end up with anything much better, but it is what it is. As my mother use to tell us as kids "Your not to old for your wants to hurt you".
BP, I am most likely one of those people you cannot convince but it's hard to completely rule out such an event...I see more of a governmental collapse than societal collapse...The reason I say that is because any collapse in my opinion is going to start from the top down. Things like the collapse of the dollar etc...will trinkle down to the people making it hard to get goods and services. People will get fed up and then the SHTF...Like Dr Phil says and I quote "You cannot fix what you don't acknowledge" and government has a hard time acknowledging things need to be fixed.

Well over the last year I think my attitude towards survivalism and prepping had started to wane slightly after 30 plus years but I have just re-read Empty world by John Christopher and its given me the kick in the arse I needed to shake off the complacency. note to ones self GET A GRIP.
Come the new yer I'm going to get my act together and focus again on the hard core preps that once so inspired me, and no more listening to the negative influences that affect some forums.

well there is always the threat of impending DOOM,the bible thumpers have called for the end of the world countless times,a few years ago they said the web would crash,WWlll has been looming in the wings for how many decades?????,,,,,,,there has been a constant threat of nuclear war since the 60s,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,prep be prepared if you do it right it will not matter what happens unless it happens in your own backyard,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I think we are closer to a life changing event than at any time in the last 70 years, people have put too much reliance in technology, very few are self reliant any more- in fact it has become a dirty word, nobody knows where there food comes from "duh, the supermarket?" or even in some cases which animal, less than 1% of the population have any kind of "emergency" supplies and most rely on the state from "cradle to grave".
Yup they have sold plenty of books and advertising space to preach their nonsense.
Its interesting to note here that there have been 242+ predictions of our demise by the religious factions mainly Christianity..And most of those dealt with the return of jesus:

Then there is the prediction of the return of this fake planet called Nibiru..This one I am so sick of it hurts. I don't know if anyone here is familiar with Nancy Lieder but she kind of started this whole Nibiru return deal.....Well not really. Zacharia Stitchin claimed that the Annuaki an alien race resided on Nibiru. Anyway she currently runs the website ZetaTalk...She put forth the idea in 1995 she claimed to warn mankind that it would sweep the solar system in 2003 but that prediction later got withdrawn, wonder why?
Nibiru was a big part in the 2012 scare as well but it was never predicted to appear in 2012....Other proponents of this PlanetX/Nibiru theory such as Mark Hazelwood, Marshall Masters, Terrell Croft and the list continues. Below is a short article on each one of these from the site Cosmophobia.com:

I look back now and a lot of the 2012 sites have shut down some minutes after 12/21/12 fail to be the earth ending prophecy that was predicted....12/21/12 was never predicted by the Mayans to be a apocalyptic prophesy it was simple the end of a calendar!

my money is on not so much a natural event, but a man made one, probably political and or financial, if some human can f##k it up then they will!!
Agreed....Both of those are distinct possibilities...But those can be compounded by what is called a "combo-pocalpse" when a chain of deadly events overwhelm the human population. This generation is facing multiple what if scenarios in the form of Nano weapons, over population, Bioterrorism, Loss of Topsoil and Natural Pandemics, Climate Change (which is ******** in my book) and Nuclear Armageddon or a Super Flawed AI.
The human race much like the dinosaurs can go extinct...weather it be at our own hand or some other non human cause such as the ones I mentioned. I could literally write a book on this stuff and its not that I believe a lot of it, its the way the misguided profiteers go about trying to sell their wares....
One day something is actually going to be coming down the pike and people will ignore it. Why? There as been so much "cry wolf" by these so called psychics, doomsayers and seers people are not going to take it seriously...A current good example of that is all the fake news coming out now a days.

The funny part, is that this year, we did discover a large, 9th, distant planet orbiting the sun. It isn't completely confirmed visually yet, but mathematically a certainty. Nothing it can really do to influence us (allegedly), but I have to wonder if it's orbit and proximity at times correlates to mass extinction events on Earth (can't even start that without them establishing the current position along the orbital path, which so far, is still being deduced).
Now, that said, I think the Niburu bit is a bunch of made up nonsense...but sometimes art imitates life.

Yep I was aware of the 9th planet as well...But Nibiru's orbit if it exist would be highly elliptical , in other words straight out and back....That said any planet the size of Nibiru or Planet 9 entering our solar system we would already be feeling its effects.....so far we are not....Planet 9 has a mass of about 10 times the earth I think and it would take it 10-20 thousand years to make one full orbit around the Sun. And they have hypothesized that its orbit is like this fake planet Nibiru highly elliptical which basically means straight out and back like the purposed orbit of this Nibiru...Its called Planet 9 because as you know they cannot confirm its existence as of yet...Anyway earth is in no danger from this thing.
Depending on who you talk too conspiracy theorists or Planet X believers we are already feeling its affects....Some people believe everything they read.
People were predicting the return of Christ 2000 yrs ago, lots thought he would come back in that first generation. There have literally been thousands of predictions of doom ever since. The problem I see is the lack of self reliance in people today. Pre technology people were tougher, knew how to clean and cook an animal and how to stay warm with a wood fire. It amazes me how few people even know how to start a good fire. When, not if we have a 'disruption' of some kind, there will be a lot of unprepared people perishing quickly.
I think it will be one of two things that causes the collapse, Either overpopulation ( because humanity breeds faster than rats often without being able to afford to raise kids or creating more kids than the geography can sustain) or a pandemic (probably caused by a naturally mutating virus like Flu taking advantage of the gross over populating of cities by humans).
If religion was invented today it would be banned as a Ponzi Scheme or illegal cult.
probably just as well. if they don't know how to survive they'll only mess it up for the rest of us, so good riddance I say. there are far too many people on this rock in space anyway.
