To me the biggest surprise is why did it take so long to react? When the Chinese manufacturing took a hit from the virus, that should have sparked the sell off as other industries around the world would have shortage of parts to assemble their products resulting in slow down and layoff at many factories around the world. I expected to see the sell off much sooner as worldwide supplies would be effected. I do not see a turn back around until the full impact of the virus is known. There are many out there that is making a fortune on this down turn. There is a huge opportunity to make a lot of money but you have to know when the market is turning around which is where the average investor ends up loosing their shirts.

Brent has it right. At this point, you have to sit it out. Too late to try to sell now. The damage has been down. You don't loose money in the stock market until you sell. Just wait it out.

Of course, this may just be the start. Hopefully it is only the virus and it's impact on production that is guiding the selloff. If the Democrats win big in November, then it will most likely be long term as NO company want to put up with the Democrats tax increases and regulations. They will pack up and move first. With Trumps tax decrease in taxes and regulations, business moved to the US. With the Democrats increases, they will flee.

I’m praying the Dems don’t take over. We will have a bad recession or worse for absolutely sure! Biden doesn’t even know what he’s running for or who people are most days...poor guy. And his pledge to take our way to defend our very lives WILL cause another civil war.

Bernie is nothing but certain death to our country. We would KNOW what Venezuelans have suffered if he is elected.

My husband’s and my investments have taken quite the hit. Of course we aren’t touching it.

US market Circuit breakers have kicked in, I blame the Democrats.

You and me both blame the Dems. They have actually been clapping and celebrating people getting and dying of the Coronavirus!! They are celebrating the stocks crashing now. Their hatred is beyond anything I’ve ever witnessed. God help us.

In this case, I don't blame the Democrats or the Republicans. It is just life in the 21st century. Today, it is a combination of the coronavirus and the oil markets. I don't think either of the major political party could have altered this either way. We (and the world) just has to ride it out. Again, IMHO, the US is in a good position due to all of it's natural resources as long as a political party (Democrats) does not get in the way with too many rules and regulation trying to govern what cannot be governed.

For the right people, it is a big profit opportunity. But, you have to be able to stomach the risk of major loss if it does not play out as you anticipate.

Hatred, Envy and Jelousy is all the Socialists have in their sad, bitter wasted lives.

Let's put this stock market slide into perspective, shall we? If you have a retirement fund that is invested in stocks that follow the DOW, your nest egg is still worth 35% more than it was when Trump was elected.

Just feels like more fleecing to me. I mean, the world's leaders knew the Saudis and Russians didn't work out a deal and that this would happen long before the little people got the "news". I have no doubt they shorted oil and made a killing. Perhaps the entire thing was orchestrated and the "meeting" was a farce. Those GD Bilderbergs.

I stockpile Bed Bath and Beyond jewpons. I know I can ALWAYS get 20% off. Stock market feels like betting on MLB against the Astros.

Buy now because the markets going to go back up, probably by the end of the week. The market is only over reacting to the oil dispute followed by uncertainty over the coronavirus. I'm totally not concerned about the market, the oil affect on the market is only superficial regarding russia and saudi.

I think the hatred is expressed pretty equally from both sides. I say forget partisan crap and vote for the individual not the party.

I am still sitting on the sidelines of the market. I sold my mutual fund and the money is just sitting in limbo. Not earning anything but not at risk either. I tend to agree with maverick that it’s likely to recover some soon. I don’t believe we are quite at the bottom yet, but no one knows for sure. Now is a good time to think about oil stocks though as this squabble with Russia and the Saudis will be resolved before long.

Theý are just playing with the numbers. A book came out 2 years before the big FannyMae and FreddyMac real-estate crisis. An ex-broker from Wall Street. Told of the bubble, how it would blow one day, how the market just waits for the little guy to drop a few more bucks into the big pot there. He said that every day gold, silver, stocks, bonds, dollars, Euros, frozen orange juice and such is traded, bought and sold for the profit. His most interesting message from all these was:
Each day, not in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Moscow, Tokio, and New York...JUST IN NY: There is so much wheat bought and sold that the ENTIRE WORLD PRODUCTION CANNOT MATCH IN 200 YEARS...

Dow down 2000 points right now. Thankful the bulk of my investments are sitting on the sidelines right now. Saw the irs I have was down about 800.00 a couple days ago and that was in a very conservative fund. Wish I had moved it out too but didn’t want to overreact. I think the whole economy is going to take a big hit very shortly.

Three words come to mind: buy, buy, buy. For anyone who missed out on the last three years of the high gains in the market, here's your chance to take advantage of the coming increase.
I’m glad your so optimistic. I’m looking at Disney closing, sporting events, Broadway, Vegas, cruise lines, airlines and all the peripheral businesses closing down for who knows how long. I don’t believe we are near the bottom yet. That being said, we will get through this and get the world economy going again eventually. There will be a time to buy back in but I don’t see it anytime soon. Hopefully the warmer months will slow the virus but it’s going to be a bad two months at least, maybe more. Once a vaccine and treatment are developed that will make a big difference too, but is at least a year off. I certainly hope this dosent last that long.

I agree that this will lead into a massive buy opportunity by I don't think we are there yet. IMHO (based upon nothing but my feeling), it has not hit bottom but that is come up shortly. Watch the oil market. Once Saudi and Russia work out their difference, then I think it will be "game on".

No doubt there will come a time when it’s good to get back in. Right now my gut is screaming not yet though. I’m not sure what signs will convince me it’s good again but these wild swings over 1000 points in a day would be a good start.

All short term issues. Remember, we survived the bird flu, swine flu, h1n1 etc, etc. The China flu will be forgotten about soon enough. The only difference now is all the Trump haters are trying to make the China flu about Trump.
