This isn't hard, pick your 4 items. Feel free to explain why you would choose them or why you didn't choose something else.

I guess it would depend somewhat on if the deserted island was in a hot or cold climate. For me the top 4 items would be; Tarp, fishing pole, matches and knife.
The tarp could make shelter, fishing pole for food, matches for fire and knife for cutting stuff.

Knife, hand saw, matches, water purifier! Knife: cutting vines, killing and preparing varmints for eating, shaving wood for fire. Hand saw: cutting wood for fire, making shelter, making a raft. Matches: yes I can make fire without them, but why not make it easier. Water purifier: again, just easier!!

1 - knife
2 - tarp
3 - hand saw
4 - rope
Optional would be 5 - fire starter of some kind

Knife is most important of all, can be used for making all manner of creations, including making weapons and other tools.

Tarp for wearing, shelter, traps, storage, hammock, hanging things inside of it for protection from invasive things on the ground, collecting and channeling rain water.

Hand saw for cutting through wood, roots, husks, large bones and joints, some types of crustacean shells.

Rope for hanging things up, aid in climbing and descending trees or rock faces, anchoring things, making fasteners out of it. Helpful until such time as new ropes can be made from resources on the island.

I'd choose the fire starter if it was a 5th option as it would help make it easier to start a fire in an emergency situation, such as if your 24 hour banked fire gets put out by circumstances beyond your control.

Tarp, cooking pot, knife and handsaw. At first I had a hard time deciding between the rope and handsaw. But a crafty / handy person can make rope.

A tarp has to many uses to list but two are fresh water catchment and shelter. The cooking pot will hold water cook food and purify water. Knife and saw should be known here and should not need explanation

#1....Raft...as long as it had repair kit and pump.....gives me mobility to scrounge shoreline better to start gathering up supplies washed ashore. Mainly rope, nets and all types of cordage etc. Can island hop hopefully too.Run halibut lone line and gill net and more.Flip raft upside down for cover at night till get some better cover over me.

#2...water purifier...thats a katadin in picture...good long term solution...need water daily and for me multiple times a day....with it i dont need pot or matches...just gather up plastic bottles from shore...we humans have littered the planet a plenty...start filling bottles...or drink from pump directly as i move about island.

#3...rifle and plenty of ammo....deer and moose....if theres coastal brown bear...i want it to defend against them...they aint no joke...375h&h or 300win mag....no bear.....then 06 is fine.

#4...knife...gutting and butchering deer and more.

Would like to have that big first aid kit...i am an axe or hatchet guy too...but not on list.

Find water to drink first and then get to recon the shore.Find area with the most flotsam and set up camp and get to making gill nets, handline and making hooks(wooden halibut hooks first) and more.

p.s. i would want my @Sourdough super dupper teton -35 sleeping bag.

1) Boots : Gotta protect me Toes...
2) Hand saw : So I Can CUT stuff...
3) Flare Gun : 6 Projectiles to show where I am if a passing boat is by or at least 5 projectiles for killing something large...
4) Tent : if I have to find another place to stay out of bad weather a tent would always be easier to put down, move than making new lodging...Can always saw a stand in a tree and mount the tent Up...!!! :lightbulb:
