I told my nephew when he started Medical School. "You want to be a bezillionaire? Go into dermatology and learn how to remove tattoos." Just wait. Age is going to turn all those designs into modern art.

None for me!! I started a tattoo thread some time back because of a young waitress who had to wear a big band aid on her neck to cover her tattoo while at work. My two 90 year old friends would give her a hard time! I don't care if you have tattoos, but on your face or neck seems like you may not have thought things through all the way! Just my opinion!!

NONE. Before I went into the Navy during Vietnam, my Dad told me I'm a man now and can do what I want but advised me not to get tattoos because I would probably regret it. (He was in the Navy during WWII) I took his advice and I'm glad I did. Guys on board the ship I was on were getting tattoos with their fiance's name and then getting Dear John letters. I am not a graffiti wall in the alley of a big city!

He was correct, you would eventually. I have several in hindsight I wish I hadn't. I don't dislike them in fact some tats can be done very nicely, The old saying goes"if I knew then what I do now" applies, lol.

I'm 100% natural, no graffiti. Never could come up with anything I wanted to put on my skin permanently.

My best friend just got his first tat at age 51. His stepfather passed away earlier this year and a whole bunch of family secrets came out. He gained a sense of freedom being out from under his stepfather shadow. So he got the motto from his family crest tattooed on his arm. It says "Live as you Live" in Latin. I guess that's cool...

I got one to commemorate passing the EMT national registry exam. At the time it felt like lifetime achievement. I don't really regret it.

Actually my friend's shop in in Omaha, NE but she lives on the Iowa side of the Missouri River. Anyway, it's way west of Ames. I'd suggest your friend looks around the Des Moines area.
Yeah I guess there's a shop in Ames that does it, but I don't know much about them. They've got a really good reputation for their tats though...

@Spikedriver

I had one zapped that was on my hand
That used to be a star with a star in the center
But I got tired of people looking like I was going to kill their dog and rape their husbands and cats. Or they clutched their purses real tight
$300 bucks. Back in 93 or 94

@Frodo My friend has a tattoo on her upper boob that she got back in the 90s, and let's just say that time hasn't been kind to it. It's a paw print, and she used to like the attention from guys looking at it. Nowadays, she'd rather they didn't. Lol
Yeah, this used to be real sharp and detailed. 1978
Looks like hammered dog poo poo now

I agree with with your friend, they are cool when new

When I was young, I had planned on getting the letter "A", signifying that I enjoyed drinking Budweiser Beer. I am glad that I decided against this since:

1) I hate Budweiser beer now.
2) Budweiser Beer has gone WOKE.
3) the Letter "A" on my body would probably look like a deformed oil derrick on my arm these days.

Decades ago, someone whose father was in law enforcement, told me that tattoos were seen as more for low life people. I don't think that is true, but it helped me decide that I never wanted a tattoo. I also have never had an image that I wanted to have be permanent on my body.

Also, if the day comes when we are being searched for or sought after by the evil that runs this world, it will help them to find us. Some criminal types have been identified by tattoos, when they were trying to be incognito.

Daughter has many friends who are covered with tattoos. In h.s. and a few years out she talked about getting some. I told her to watch who had tattoos. See if they were people who were working good jobs or minimum wage jobs. She did. Daughter has always wanted to be able to be successful. She decided not to get any tattoos, at least that I know of.

I don't think that all of the things that I said about being a criminal type or lack of success in life are really true. It is just that I was judgmental about them. I have seen the opposite. I've seen highly successful people have a tattoo sleeve or more. It is just not my thing.

I have know men in suits that would cut your throat for a dollar and have known big hairy burly long haired bikers that were as kind as a pussy cat
Appearances mean nothing. Evil is in your heart

I have an array of permanent marks, but they aren't tattoos, so ZERO (0). Been trying to decide for 4+ decades :p
Ditto.
An active life has left me with plenty of 'permanent marks' and I don't want any more :(.

Good post. A little tale of mine. Several years ago this young guy transfered into my group as a tech trainee. He had zero experience and sleeves on both arms and neck up to his chin. Those are just what was visible I didn't think too highly of him at the time. But in 3 years he had developed into a very good tech and was willing to do and learn anything I threw at him. When I left for my current job he sent me a very nice thank you card for spending the time to help him out and train and guide him.
I learned from him not to be to quick to judge someone. Looks are very deceiving

I just don't see the point in having one. Why DO people get them? It's painful costs money and you could catch some disease and they look crappy after a while or maybe even to start on some people , they are not making anyone look better either
when I see people tattooed all over first thing I think is gang members
