Good post. A little tale of mine. Several years ago this young guy transfered into my group as a tech trainee. He had zero experience and sleeves on both arms and neck up to his chin. Those are just what was visible I didn't think too highly of him at the time. But in 3 years he had developed into a very good tech and was willing to do and learn anything I threw at him. When I left for my current job he sent me a very nice thank you card for spending the time to help him out and train and guide him.
I learned from him not to be to quick to judge someone. Looks are very deceiving
Ran into the same lesson at a 15 minute oil change, I was sitting in the waiting room when 2 homies walked in the door
Pants down to their knees, dred locks and tattoos. As we waited one of them respectfully asked if I knew of anyone hiring offshore. Before I could answer he told me he just graduated and needed a career he did not say job. He impressed me as a good guy, so I gave him the number of a guy who works for Diamond
Last I heard the kid is now a Driller on a rig

I wanted a tribal crow and a few other markings, I failed the allergy test with flying colors.
I looked into "sculpting" but I'm not that masochistic to let somebody with a heated loop carve on me. I am NOT that Metal!
I want a full back
A old church in the back ground
A oak tree with moss overhanging a grave yard with the names of fallen Bros and family On tombstones surrounded by a iron fence
All black no color

And some just can't understand why they can't get a job!? View attachment 118057
I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want a job.

Neither I nor my Hubby have any tats. Every once in a while I think of getting one but I can’t decide what I want permanently displayed in my body. It would have to be placed where no one but me and my Hubby could see.

There is a man and his wife who come into the thrift store I volunteer at that had a godawful tattoo and always wears sleeveless t-shirts do everyone can see it.

My son loves tattoos. His legs (now colored in) was Pearl Harbor on one side, and Navy destroyers on the other. His back is a full tattoo, a colored in St. Michael, the protective Saint for law enforcement. I lost count as to how many. Different strokes for different folks.

I've never commited a crime either but I thought the same thing.

Another thought is that, if you bought a new car, would you draw permanent pictures all over it?
I have to admit that those thoughts have gone through my mind. The deciding factor against my getting a tattoo was seeing old tattoos, to the point where the ink had bled into surrounding tissue to the point where it was sometimes difficult to tell what it was originally.

Two. My first was in Micronesia when I was 14; my family all got a clan-mark from some of the locals. It's three dolphins.

The second one is below the back of my neck and is Attic Greek script (the original alphabet from ~500 BC) with Leonidas' favorite saying:

She looks like one of my exes!
*Sigh* At least it's not a lady's crotch in his armpit.

That's why I didn't get one until I was 'older'!

@winds-of-change There is a railroader I work with sometimes who has one that's even worse, on his forearm no less. He has a small brown mole on his arm about as big as a pencil eraser on that forearm. He got a tat of a shapely, naked woman bending over from behind. Guess where that mole fits into that tattoo?

The guy has grandkids. If I was a parent of those kids, I would insist he always wear long sleeves...

I have zero tattoos. My wife has none. My sister has none. My parents had none. My wife's parents had none. I think it kind of runs in the family for our older generation. My son has quite a few that merge into one big canvas. He works at a high end tattoo shop now - good money, rivals my engineering salary. My daughter has one small one on her ankle that she got overseas - New Zealand I think, maybe Australia - when she was studying abroad in college.

I have none. My immediate family don't have any either. I have been thinking about getting one in memory of my SO who passed in May. I'm going to wait awhile before I decide. If I do get one it will be very small and somewhere that it won't be seen by anyone other than me unless I want them to.

I have none and my wife has none.
Every time we pass a tattoo place I ask her if she wants to stop and get my name tattooed on her butt.
She always rolls her eyes and says NO.
When I was in the Philippines and I drank with a bunch of diesel boat sub sailors. We would get really drunk and someone would say let's go get a tattoo.
We never made it thankfully because we all liked to drink too much.
Their tattoo guy used bamboo slivers dipped in ink. He didn't have electricity.
The guys that had him work on their tattoos said it didn't matter how drunk you were 15 minutes was all anyone could take the pain.
He did some amazing work though.
I Pattaya Thailand me and a buddy went to get tats. It was in the back room of a bar.
They guy getting the tat sat on a bed and the tattoo artist(?) sat on a chair.
He would dunk an old rag into a bowl of alcohol, wipe the blood off the tattoo so he could see what he was doing.
The bowl of alcohol was dark red from all the blood.
He never changed the alcohol or the old rag.
It stunk and was hot in that boom boom room.
I looked at my buddy and said I think I'll go have another beer.
He said me to and we left.
My kids and granddaughter all have a bunch of tattoos. It must be a generational thing.

This USED to be a ship with 2 sails

One of my leather stamps

I have one, got it when I was 18 or 19. It's my own drawing so I knew it was something I could live with and it still looks good.
At that time, the only people who had tats still were those fringe social rebels, those who frequented jail or prison or guys from the military.
I didnt fit into any of these crowds. All my friends were pretty straightforward country rodeo or sportish type folks ..but I walked to the beat of my own drum , was young n rebellious n didnt like the way social circles wanted conformity to fit in.
The tat isnt large, when I drew it for art class in high school..I thought about my native American ancestry at the time. It turned out pretty good..so instead of some random drawing by a stranger..I thought why not my own..
Once my mother got past her initial shock n urge to strangle me..she did admit it was tastefully placed on my ankle (can be covered up) lol..and at least it was one of my drawings which she liked.
I keep saying I'm going to get another but still havent. I wanted a bull ..my sign..but what I drew I too masculine for me. To make it not as masculine..I dont want a cartoonish looking one. So..I dont know. I thought about researching my northern European origins as well for something inspiring too..the art possibilities are overwhelming at times. Something someday will resonate..

This is the bull I drew but..its way to masculine and its hind end isnt quite right..needs more detail too.
The small pic in the corner is that cave painting in France that was found like 20 years ago. It is a cave full of very old paintings.. That was my inspiration for the rest of the drawing.

I have scars & everyone means something to me.
They all cause pain & I remember them, my first was six year old from barb wire fence The scar is on my palm just below my left ring finger. It looks like a anchor, it stand out against the callous.
