just saw a blurb on the news that caught my attention. A high school in Texas decided to stop its football program and made the field an organic garden. The kids get first hand knowledge on growing food, and class credits. All the food gets donated to local groups. I'm not intending to offend all the football fans out there but I think this is a great program!

Lol. The middle and high schools here all have greenhouses. They ain't gonna give up football for nothing, but they grow food for food banks and shelters. Plus, they know how to grow food. When I was a kid we always had at least a half acre garden and at my point in life I'm glad that we did.

If we had had greenhouses in the 70's, I bet there would've been something other than food in a greenhouse.....

Why I don't know what you're talking about with anything but food ;)! I think it's great to have programs like that. My high school sucked. They never taught how to balance a checkbook, grow things, or much else that is relevant to everyday life. In all fairness, I was probably looking for that non food stuff to really find out if there were any good programs in the school.....

that's the way!!!
even if I live in this crap hole called city,I know that my kids who live rural, get their hands dirty growing stuff and all that fun.

The high school I went to had a big agriculture and forestry program along with strong welding and mechanic's classes. It served me well. Fortunately I got out of school before the computer became the "in" thing and schools quit teaching useful skills.
