It snowed about 3" overnight. Our county has 12 snowplows on the job clearing our roads. Some of the roads on the map below are state highways, so their snowplowing status is not provided on the map. How many snowplows does your county have? The population of our county is 68,000.

City of Dallas has 8 snow plows. I thought I read Fort Worth has 5. Couldn’t find a number for the county.
And in Maryland, Baltimore County has 423 trucks and equipment, almost 500 personnel working it, 2700 miles of road to tackle. Haha
In Maryland, the plow truck was also the salt spreader, at the same time.
Road is slushy out front. Was snowing a bit ago.

70% of the roads in montana are not paved so some trucks are worked year round.
Every fall there are advertisements for snow plow drivers..
We might have no snow for months or we might get some snow every day for a month..
Living on a school bus route has it advantages since the routes have priority to get plowed first thing in the morning..
With the high winds we have you can be driving on a snow free road and then turn 90 degrees and hit deep snow and drifts that lifted big pickups can get stuck in....

No clue how many official plows we have. I know Marvin is paid by the county taxes to plow, and we see him sometimes. But when he does, he leaves big piles in front of our driveway, which is horrible to drive over. Mostly the amish guys just come around and hook something up to the tractor, like the bucket. And our neighbor Marlon clears stuff up with the skidster, like he did for us this morning. We are mostly dirt roads in our town, no stop lights, either. But I took our main road to the bigger town (this road is paved) to take husband in to the docs, and it was not cleared much, and it was not salted either. Just drove 40mph instead of 65. And only one lane was driveable, actually, a half of two lanes put together.

Our county claims to have 116 snow plows; various sizes. Large ones are used for arteries; smaller ones used for residential areas. I really can't complain. Our town does a pretty good job of keeping the streets cleaned.

My only beef, and this could go in the Rant for the Day, is the barricade of snow the plows leave in front of your driveway when they clear the street. Sometimes they barricade you in. It will be three feet high and three feet thick. You would think they could find a better way. :dunno:

🙄 I drive a 1999 Z71 now! Guess my next truck will be an '08!! Lol!!
I remember when I bought the 1999 brand new. The dealership had two models of the Chevy truck, the "old style" with the 350ci engine and the "new style" with the 5.3L engine. Both were 1999s and both were the same price. I chose the old style with the 350 V8.

@Morgan101, you have to get out there and remove snow before the snow plow comes down the road. If you remove some of the snow on the road or shoulder "upstream" from the driveway, the snowplow empties its load there and not in front of your driveway.

Yeah it's the property owners responsibility to clean up the berm left over from the snow plows. Our berms can be 3 to 5 feet high or more. Then the county brings out the grader with a wing and cut a couple feet off the berm. Whenever we get a good snow I take the tractor down and clean out the end of the driveway and in front of the mailbox. Occasionally the county plow operator will clean the berm at the end of our driveway, but usually not.

Mine has the 5.3.....well over 450,000 miles on it!!
