was wondering have any one here seen that tv-show "tiny house, big living"??
could be great BOL's to have one...
I've seen it a couple times. They have some great storage ideas, but like most design shows, they are way over my budget on what I would want to spend.

They are great ideas. I built a small place in Florida, 8'x18', and towed it up here on a flatbed trailer. It had everything it needed for a weekend retreat or bug out place. Over the next few trips here we added a large bedroom and eventually moved into it full time. It took about six months before the house was done enough to live in, but the 'cabin' was a great stepping stone. I will say one thing though about tiny house living. You better be able to get along with whoever you are living with. There's a lot of togetherness in a tight space, especially in the wintertime.

yup, they don't come cheap, wonder sometimes when watching, what it would look if a prepper would build one...
I used as much scavenged material as I could and discounted stuff. I really didn't have much in materials at all, but if you count the sweat equity then the price went up some! I've always liked working with my hands and making things, so it was really a fun project.

Our temporary cabin is 20×20. It's small but will be very livable until we can build the house. The wife isn't here very much so we should get along pretty good in this small space. The wood stove is keeping it warm and dry. After the wife gets home tomorrow we'll start installing the tile flooring in the bathroom and get some cabinets and countertops for the kitchen area. We've got a 10×20 storage building that's about a half mile away. The wife wants it moved up to the garden area for her garden shed/bee house. I think I'll be able to tow it with the tractor once we get some snow on the road. It should slide easier then.

We went and walked a bit of that 80 acre property in the boonies yesterday. We left here and it was 80 degrees. Got there and it was 90.

Most of the flat space is either way low or way high. I’d prefer more high up because these small hills (250 feet) dump water into the low areas. The problem is that the hills are way steep. We made it up one side and it’d take a lot of dozer work to put a road up it.

On the positive side, LOTS of deer sign.....

I guess this means that we’ll keep on looking.....

Finished cutting and splitting wood for winter, just have to finish stacking it. Almost finished the remodeling of the horse barn. Ordered the last of my supplies from online, after this its only local purcheses. Cashing in most of my stock market investments, except a few commodities. Having a get together with family and friends Saturday to update our SHTF! Plan and check inventory to see if we have any needs.

Got all of the firewood split and have about 4 cords stacked. Have another 4 cords left to stack. Dug about 200 feet of trench yesterday and ran water up to the cabin. Checked it for leaks this morning. It's been snowing all day so it's a good day to work inside, after I finish back filling the trench. I'll start laying the tile floor in the bathroom and trim out the windows.

I got everything into the closet alright. But I can't get in there easy or fast enough, due to how I had everything thing arranged. Now for the enjoyment of redoing everything. Then another try to getting into there.
I've rearranged stuff so many times till I got it just right, then I'd change it again too!

Doesn't matter how much storage we have, we always want more. . . All of our outbuildings are full of things that we can use to repair or repurposed along with tools. Only problem is that what we need always seems to be on the other end of the 10 acre property since the shop is located on the other end and projects happen on both ends. I was reminding hunny about the end of Nov shipping trip today, cause let's face it, he doesn't always remember things anymore. His comment was where am I going to store it all cause the stockroom is pretty full as it is with all the canning I did this last summer. I'm just like don't worry I'll take care of it & I will. Maybe just a little more creatively. ;)

Things can always be stored under beds, closets or even stacked to make a table with a tablecloth thrown over it. Where there is a will there is a way.

Seems that maybe your 10 person tent could go somewhere else for the time being. If your worried about shelter after a hurricane wiping out the house, maybe a smaller two person tent in the closet or even some rope and tarp. Those take up much less room. Just keep in mind you may have to stay in that closet for a few hours and need to have some wiggle room. Good luck!

I still have plenty room in there. My 2 main concerns, is my 2 lil dogs, and us getting out afterwards .the reason I went with that tent, is because I figured the dogs and me. might have to live out of it until we can get relocated after a tornado.

I was thinking you could store the 10 man tent in another location other than the closet in the house. In fact another building or garage on the property. If the house gets wiped, the other may not, and you can grab at that point, but even if you have to dig to find you would still have something else in the mean time to use. That way you & pups can quickly get in closet. I can understand wanting some extra room with the larger tent with the pups. I totally get how they are part of the family too. . . :). I got three big ones myself and they will always go where we go. Just not sure how I can prevent the cat from getting eaten by dogs yet if we ever had to vacate the house. . . do some rearranging and see what you can come up with. If all else fails, go to plan B.

Our neighbors are moving to texas to live by there daughter in a house next door to her in a HOA in a subdivision. They 80 years old and selling there house on 25 acres. I am helping them pack things up and volunteered to load there trailers, already loaded up 2 of them. They taking a trailer load at a time untill the place sells. I was happy to help this couple. They told me yesterday they giving me a ton of materials like plywood, posts, lumber, nails, hardware, roofing, theres a barn and 2 storage sheds of materials and tools they have accumilated? They have no use for it at there new place. They even have canning supplies and a riding mover. They tell me its all mine.

I have been blessed, there is so much. I need to add another storage building. Im having trouble comprehending this, there must be $100k of stuff.

I am going to do repairs around there property to help increase there sale, but any ideas of what else I could do? We are strapped for money, after just moving here and I just maxed out my 2 credit cards at no interest for 18 months for supplies, we budgetting to paying it off.

A lil used popup camper can be a lifesaver. Very mobile, easy to tow with most any vehicle.

But it hold up against a tornado. That's why I fixed up the closet floor, as a tornado safe room.

Edit. I thought of burying a catch. But I have to until I have, what's needed for that first.

LOL, true that!

But they definitely have a place. When I was growing up, we took two extended trips out West and stayed at all the major (and many minor) National Parks in a pop-up camper. Six of us! We camped in that thing in every state of the lower 48 west of the Missouri River and in two Canadian provinces. Well, I slept under the stars on a cot most of the time, and sometimes in the back of the station wagon while my three sisters slept in the camper.

That is awesome Rellgar! At their age and where they are going, they won't have the extra room to have all that stuff anyhow. I am sure that they are just happy to be giving it to someone who can use it and even appreciate it. Most don't anymore and new buyers would probably consider it just junk and throw it. In a way your doing you both favors. It sounds like you are trying to 'repay' and show your appreciation as best you can with what you have available. Just a thought, if you can make a frame out of some of the wood they give you. Take a picture of some nice place of their property, enlarge if possible so when they look at that picture hanging on their wall they could remember the old homestead. It wouldn't be an expensive project and I would think very sentimental for them.

Had a pretty good day today. I got the new hot tub around back and set up on the deck. It's filled and running but is about 75 degrees right now so it will be the morning before it's ready . I got the old one drug announced to the front and ready to load on a trailer for the dump. I used the tractor to move that one and wasn't real gentle or careful about it since it's going to the dump. Then I worked around the yard, cut some firewood and stacked, picked up some stuff that I'd been putting off for too long, made dinner, cleaned up the kitchen really well, racked a 5 gal jug of wine, picked the very last of the muscadine grapes and I just made a glass of wine. That last part there will ensure I'm done for the day! I'm beat, but it's a good feeling after accomplishing some things that needed doing.

Its been raining most of the day so it has been a sewing day. Hunny took me by the fabric store yesterday on our way home from picking up feed. They were having a 50% off sale on their Keepsake Calico which is what I use for my quilting. Since I am waiting around on the garden, thought I would go ahead and start working on the next grand daughter quilt due in April. Got about half my squares cut and two Gentlemen's Fancy blocks done for the quilt top. Only 7 more to go! Its a lot of piecing. . . more than the last quilt. Took me a few times of ripping out and just walking away from the first block to figure out how to sew it, but got it now thank goodness!! First time doing this pattern. Really need to find less complicated blocks since this is a new hobby of mine.

Well, it really helped when I put in the 8 triangles I accidentally left out. . .. It was one of those smack me in the head moments. There is 60 pieces per a 12 " x 12 " square. Its like a freaking puzzle. I originally was going to do only 9 squares but the more I think about it, I really need to go up to 16 blocks to match big sis's size of a baby quilt. I may come up with just a boarder around. I got time to figure it out.

Got the generator wired to the cabin today. Now we have electric. Ran the generator for 7-1/2 hours.....until it shut down due to engine overheating. I'm surprised the building didn't catch fire. Some of my tools were too hot to touch. I'll pick up a fan to put in the window to help cool the engine. And get a remote thermometer so I can monitor the temps inside the generator building from inside the cabin. Put up another solar powered motion sensor light on the outside of the generator building. It comes on when I step off the front porch and covers the area where the firewood is stacked.

I have been working on meal prep for the week (for the last couple of weeks). It helps me stick to my diet and not spend money on junk food. I have also been trying to go to the gym more often and just started a night course this week. We had a wasp infestation in our attic. We had to have it sprayed. We are still finding dead wasp all over the place. I have started buying a few Christmas gifts each week, so that December doesn't come and destroy me. I want to continue to get thing to fill up my car bag. I went indoor skydiving about 10days ago. My hair was one tangled mess. Guess what I don't have in my bag?...a hair brush. I am sure I will discover good things to put in there once I find myself in situations without them.
