sounds like that you got off as a bandit with the knife and compound bow
I've often wondered if it would be wiser/more economical to go farmers markets anyways. I really like working the garden and watching things grow, but it's a labor of love, not economics. I have to admit though, picking food minutes before eating it improves the taste dramatically. I've been known to eat tomatoes before I even get out of the garden.I've been a slacker for the past month. I did can 7 pints of chicken, though. I tilled my little area for my garden. I live in the city, so I have to plant things in with my flower garden. I did till up about a quarter of my front yard to make it alittle bigger. I won't be able to grow enough to can or freeze, but I'm hoping I can find a pick-your-own around here.

As far a space, you can produce a lot even in a small spot. Do you actually have an ordinance that forbids vegetable gardening?
Im back online! Finally moved into our own place. Work keeps me busy as usual. So does my 2 year old son, my pregnant wife and my trap shooting league. lol.
Looks like you guys have been busy as well.
yea farmers markets do hit a little high on prices sometimes but! your also getting a product that isnt gas'd or treated with **** thats gonna give you cancer in 20 years ! sometimes its best to spend that xtra money i think! but if you have a yard id say put it to work for ya!Nothing prohibiting veggies in the front yard. I live in kind of a hippy dippy neighborhood. Most homes have rain barrels and I have a neighbor up the street who turned their whole yard into a garden. From what I've seen, the farmers market here is usually more expensive than than a regular grocery store..mostly because it's a producer only market. It's kind of hard to compare prices when the grocery store doesn't sell Red Candy Apple Onions (which are delicious!).
Glad to hear you're not in a tightly controlled subdivision! At least you can produce if you want to. I've never heard of those onions before, but sounds cool. I'm still working out what grows well here naturally, one day I'll get good enough to experiment on more things. A friend of mine at work got an 8x10' greenhouse kit and produces a lot in it. I saw a three hundred percent jump in production when I put up my greenhouse. I still plant an outside garden, but it's subject to the mercy of Mother Nature. Between drought, bugs, heat, cold, storms, etc., the greenhouse is just a lot easier to control.Nothing prohibiting veggies in the front yard. I live in kind of a hippy dippy neighborhood. around 5500 for the moment,I know it could be better, maybe when I work again in summer, but 12Ga is lower than it should...sufficient on .22 ammo?? how much is sufficient?? how sure are you on that?lol
Thanks! It's solid enough to stack three cases high of canned goods anyway. I'm going to make it my wine storage, so I'll dress it up a little. I'm not sure why as I haven't shown it to anyone locally as I figure advertising it isn't smart. At least here I have a little anominity.that shelving already looks good enough to me..

I know how you feel, . . . have half of mine done right now, but it has been raining and the new part is wet! Even after a few days of rain I am slippin and sliddin which is why I have been digging raised bed on the new part. Even with the clay we have around here, if you can get it planted and started, it will grow. I have been mulching the rows with mulch, but ran out and started in with rice hulls, which I get for free from a rice mill a few miles done the road. In between, a very thick layer of pine needles and leaves. It's been heck recently and we got some rain tonight with more expected in the morningStill trying to get my garden tilled , rain rain . Im going to let it dry 1/2 day today and till it wet or not . Suposed to rain tonight agin .
Here it was pretty easy, as long as you're not a felon and can afford the fee.just confirmed time with the police for a gun permit, earliest possible time was 28 May. as my brother already asked me,do I have some b-day wish when I turn 50,well a new gun for hunting
so this goes as part of this weeks preps.
Gardening beats a gym anyday! I sometime think it's too much of a workout, but the satisfaction and reward is worth the effort. I canned 18 half pints of beets last night, some to enjoy and some for gifts. My plan for the fay is to finally plant my little garden. It's been so wet here that I haven't been able to to put the final till on it so I can plant. I've added almost 700 lbs of compost, topsoil and garden soil mix, but I need to till it, row it up & put in the little seeds. I'll get the transplants in this week, then I just need to get the mulch. I planted 3 10 gallon tubs with potato seeds about 3 weeks ago just to see how they will do. So far I only see one tiny sprout emerging from each tub from the 4 I planted in each tub. Yeah....I planted 12 potatoes so I should have a bumper crop. lol
I did join the gym about a month ago, so I guess that's a kind of prep. I need to lose some weight and get in shape. I'm feeling stronger but me old knees don't like those weight machine like they used to.
