I got a guy that is wanting to trade cars with me .

He wants my Corvette.
I really like his car also.
His car is a1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V.
Like new inside and out , 43,000 miles on it. Has been shown.
Last big American made car. Biggest ever off assy line.

My Vette is in excellent condition, but has little over 100,000 miles on it .
Not bad for 26 years.

I think his car ( from research) will sell for more money than mine.
His is more a collector than mine .
Mine is a driver for fun.

Now I'm torn , because I would like to have both.

What would y'all do.
As you know this is just a hobby for me.

I am not a collector, or even a lover of cars. Given that, if I saw your Vette driving down the road I would recognize it as a Vette but wouldn't think it was anything special. I would consider it like all the other Vettes out there. This is because I wouldn't recognize a prize one over an everyday one - I'm not knocking your Vette in any way. I just don't know a valuable car if I see one.

Now, the Lincoln would catch my eye. You don't see those as much. First off, I'd be looking to see if there were any giant fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror. Then I'd be looking for shag carpeting on the dashboard. Sorry - I told you I was an unsophisticated car person.

So for me, it would come down to which one is more valuable to sell down the line. As far as actually driving them, like you, I would drive the Vette (if I could get into it - I imagine that feat is similar to getting into our Mustang). I would not so much drive the Lincoln.

Bottom line for me: For driving - Vette all the way. For investment/collecting - the Lincoln, based on what you said about its value.

You should call Jay Leno and ask what he would do. He's into cars.

The Vett is nice but that Lincoln is gorgeous. I would probably trade and ride in comfort and style.
Here's another thought. You are having trouble getting in and out of the Vett now. How much more trouble are you going to have in a year or so now that you have that air fryer? :p
Did I mention that Lincoln is Gorgeous?
My Ex BIL had a Town car. He locked his wife in the trunk and drove her to her Mom's house. He said, "she's crazy and I can't do anything with her." When he opened the trunk she came out like a scalded cat and just as mad. She grabbed the first thing she could find, a BIG rock, and tried to kill him with it. He was faster but she did some damage to his car.
This is why he is an EX BIL.
I have rethought the car and I would go with both if I had that option.

You mean like these hanging in my office?
I been looking for a car for these , a long time, and you believe they fit that Lincoln.

@backlash has a point about getting in and out of the Vette.

Go take a test drive in the Lincoln, spin that steering wheel with your pinky and see what ya think.

I'm gonna go drive it when I can leave the wife for a day.

The car is 2 hours south of me in Camden TN.

Will drive the Vette so he can take it for a spin.

You don't turn steering wheel on the Vette with the pinky, it's stiff , smooth , but stiff.

Jim

Vette 2
Lincoln 4

I'm serious as a hemroid, I truly can't decide what to do.

Jim
Trade the Caddy and some boot money instead.
The vette and the battleship will cover everything from performance to luxury.

The Caddy has 20,000 miles on it , still smells new , looks , drives and rides like new.
I'll be keeping it.
Now that one I'm attached to. I polish it every 2 to 3 months , whether it needs it or not.

They only made 500 of this model.

My baby.

I would take the ss minnow.

The one vette that I drove did not impress me at all. We had 3/4 ton pickups that could wipe the asphalt with that vette.

Now, the towncar I had did impress me. She would **** and git but you had to pay attention to feel the acceleration.

I am used to something that sets you back in your seat. The vette did not do it for me. The Lincoln was so comfortable you would sink into the seat.

Jim,
Remember that the two best days in a boaters life are the day he buys the boat and the day he sells it.
I'm not going to advise you one way or the other. These are your decisions to make because only you have to take the consequences.
If you can't decide then don't. I remember how much you wanted that Vette, you don't seem to have that passion for the land yacht.
Sleep on it for a couple of days and then do what your heart demands.

Stock C3 ( 3rd gen) Covettes were dogs , until C4 (4th) then they were better , but not great until 1992 , the LT1 engine ...and it's been big HP ever since , increasing every year. The C7 and new 2020 C8 are one of the fastest production cars made.

Mine is a C4 , LT1 , and it will put you hard against the seat back.

But it really shines when cornering. There are no curves in a Vette. F U N.

I'm just curious as to what y'all would do.
I been sleeping on it for a while , still can't make up my mind.
I'm sure once I get in that Lincoln...I'll say to myself yes or no.

But which one do y'all like the best.

Yeah , Vettes are everywhere, not many as old and nice as mine.
But 1979 Mark V , like new, ....not many of them around.

Jim

I've never had good luck with General Motors vehicles. Chrysler has always been expensive to maintain. I like FoMOCo but I like the small cars with big engines. I've driven the bigger Fords and Lincolns but I just don't belong in those big cars. The Sunbeam Tiger is almost perfect...
