Oddly enough I did think that much of the Storyline in the wonderful US TV drama Jericho was quite thoughtful and considered at least in the first series. ( not the nukes in the cellar though) and it was set in KS. Kansas has a lot going for it as well its got a strong prepper and survivalist community.

SHTF vehicles,,,,,,yeah,,,when it happens and it will take a couple weeks for the majority of people to realize what is happening, you just might be able to get where you want to go,it could possibly be a year or longer before the masses die off and travel would be an option again,,,,if it is sudden all bets are off travel will be a crap shoot at best, and with anything less than a Sherman Tank I would stay put

A used Stryker would be more useful and better on fuel

Been gone too long from the US to even know where is good prepping. Just glad to hear it is happening. SOMEBODY will need to re-populate later. Might as well be from Kansas and Texas than anywhere else I've never been to. GP

Just starting over again means having all the fun of watching mankind learning from his mistakes and doing it right the 140th time around....or maybe not, nature has a way of accepting the stronger and adaptable under the living beings. Rather have some preppers from Kansas than India or China re-pop the US.

Kansas has roughly the same land mass as the UK, or closeish KS has a pop of about 3.5 million, the UK nearer 70 million, whats not to like about KS cept a lack of coastline

No mountains to hide behind...lots of dust, tornados, roads that get hot in the summer and then have 1 inch gaps between the concrete slabs and make your teeth rattle for hours, Wham, Wham, Wham, Wham all the way towards the west. You try to drive faster that the Whams come faster, then slower, then you try to zig-zag if there is no oncoming traffic, you can see 23 miles anyway because it is so FLAT. Just gotta love a place like that, don'tca?

Kansas only has two seasons, winter and construction.

But seriously, if you've ever been to Kansas, pretty much everything west of I-135 is flat, and east of it is hilly. Although not mountains, like was said before, you could hide pretty effectively and not be seen, save for infrared heat signatures.

As for my plans for my M35A2, it's a means to an end. The idea is to get it built into a configuration that makes it a usable mobile base to get from point A where I live to point B where I'd be going. Once to point B, set it up as a semi-permanent living quarters while building a more permanent residence around it. I have no intentions of driving it for years on end Mad Max style, it only needs to go a couple hundred miles to be where I plan to be. It's just a temporary shelter which is 1000 times better than a tent to live in for a year or two. Plus, in the mean time it can do double duty as a camper to get all the bugs worked out in dry runs in preparation for the final showdown.

Quit telling everyone about our big secret! Kansas is not the dust bowl of the 1930's, irrigation has seen to the greening of Kansas pretty well. Low population density and tons of game, centrally located from all major disasters, very 2a friendly, what's not to like?

Btw, those who always bring up Kansas and tornadoes, I've lived in Kansas since 1979, and I've NEVER seen a tornado, just the after effects of them. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Neat spacious design, the only thing I would change out is the knobs on the cupboard doors for rebated self locking types like you find on boats. A 2 1/2 may struggle in the long term but in the immediate aftermath and the short / medium term it would make a darn good mobile base to hide in the grasslands.

I agree, it looks like those are just normal house cabinets.
Painted up in the right colors, a guy could hide out indefinitely in the right area here in Kansas.

Just get some camoflage nets that look like growing wheat, corn or a pile of dust.
No matter what, even if SHTF never happens, you're gonna have a great camper truck that makes lots of people jealous and will be high enough ot not get any snakes, bears or 5 ft of snow in the front door. Live free, GP

Where I'll be going desert camo will work best, it'll match the grass pastures pretty well. White tarps for winter and woodland camo nets for spring and you've pretty much got the camo thing covered.

As for bears, if there's ever any loose in Kansas we've got a heck of a problem. And as for 5' of snow, the most we've got here in the last ten years or so is maybe 6" at one time. Definitely not like it was when I was a kid.

Oh I know, I know, I only ended up in SW KS BECAUSE of survivalist families I got to know very well in the 80s, 90s, and 00's, Loads of affordable space, water coming from the Canadian and Red rivers, That unpronouncable Aquifer, and terrain that Rommel could hide the entire Afrika corps in. If I could I would live the rest of my days in SW KS, never met anyone in that area I did not like.

Strangely my late friend and I often talked about the best cammoflage pattern and systen we thought would work well, and we realised the ones used by both the brits and germans in WW2 In Libya, Morroco and Algeria were pretty close. Cept in a Cornfield of course :)

its SW KS just leave the vehicle outside for three months and its colour will match the environment, the wind sand blasts everything to thevsame drab scheme only enhanced by the pock marked bodywork cause by Kansas hail :)

It's Ogallala, an old Indian word for "Big Pond" [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

You don't have that problem in central and east Kansas, it's closer to a Missouri type landscape imho.

Yup, khaki works very well around here.

SOMEBODY has been there and SOMEBODY has done that...Sounds like SE has seen some duty time in the Army Fort in Kansas!

Kansas is the largest producer of Wheat in the US, has the largest natural Gas field in the world and is the 2nd largest beef producer in the US.
Only Oklahoma and Florida have more tornados than Kansas...GP

Truck Porn always makes me laugh, most of them only do about 2 miles to the gallon.
I remember the old Plymouth my second wife's father had, you could hear it sucking up the fuel as it drove down the drive!!!

Not very big but the Suzuki Samurai was one of the most awesome offroad capable street legal vehicles ever made due to the light weight and incredible angle of approach. They climb like mountain goats, and can go places in the woods larger vehicles can't fit. And they are very fuel thrifty.

I had one for over ten years. It required almost no maintenance, and was very easy to work on. I was able to do nearly all the maintenance myself.

I'll have you know that I get TEN whole miles to the gallon with the M35A2, sometimes 11 if I can keep my foot out of it! [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

the suzy Jimny is an awesome offroader, quite popular with preppers on a tight budget living in confined spaces over here, and the new one is even nicer.
