A very FEW miles from my Cabin current condition. I am not at the cabin. As the crow flies, I am about 35 miles from cabin. Here clear blue skies and 46 above, green grass.

Seward Highway is closed and your picture shows why. They just closed Thompson Pass a few minutes ago, so no escaping in any direction. Also forecast just got updated and now it’s 12-24 inches over the next 8 hours and winds of 75 MPH. It is coming down hard and sideways!

This is a picture of Belanger Pass that I live near the top of. It’s shut down as well. A neighbor just sent this to me. We had a couple gusts above 90 mph. Almost no wind now and it’s snowed almost a foot in the last 2 hours and it’s not slowing down.

Well, that was the weirdest weather event I ever experienced. I went to bed last night to clear skies with no wind. Woke up to the lightest of flurries. About noon the winds hit hard and for us they hit up to 90 MPH, then the snow came and the wind faded fast. The worst of the wind event lasted maybe 40 minutes. In about 4 hours we got over 24 inches of wet snow. Now the moon is out with clears skies, and not a hint of wind. Anchorage, about 4 hours from us, got winds up to 110 MPH.

50's f yesterday, last of the snow melted. 50's today, tomorrow and the next. Low's in the 30's. I use a lp space heater for 950sqft. I only had one brick lit during the entire arctic blast. Yesterday and today I had to turn if off in the afternoons.

I do have a little ceramic heater in the bathroom with a built in thermostat. That room is furtherest from the space heater. I keep it on the lowest setting. It's been off all day today.

Today, 43F at noon, skies a mix of sun and clouds. Supposed to be a dusting of light snow tomorrow morning for 3 hours and then light warm rain.

This is the warmest winter here I've ever experienced in my life. Yesterday I found a couple of clusters of early spring tulip leaves starting to poke up above the ground. It's only mid-January and the tulips don't usually start poking up above ground until the end of February at the earliest. I worry about what it may mean for increased drought and wildfires this year.

I guess I need to move to Alaska to get warmer weather....

Do wonder if this is just one January or if it will be like this next year too. If this is the new norm we will have to figure out how to get more firewood , and buy a snow plow to be able to get down our road and up
We have now had snow on the road for 2 weeks. That has never happened before in the almost 9 years we have lived here

Snow can be a challenge. We have snow on the ground from late October/early November until April. Last year we had snow on June 22nd. I've got 3 miles of road to plow here and the elevation changes over 800 feet from bottom of our road to the top.
Do you have an ATV that you can put a plow on, or a tractor? How much snow do you get there? We normally have 4 to 6 feet here by now. This year we only have 2 feet or so. Maybe all of our snow is heading east. I think your getting our cold too. We've only been down to the teens, and a few single didget days so far.

but you expect it and prepare for it where you live. Like I said since we moved here we have had a few decent snowfalls, of even 2 feet once, but then it melts a few days later and no problem. This consistant cold that keeps it from melting is the unusual part. We were thinking about buying a snowplow attachment for truck or Ranger, but then we didn't really need one until 9 winters later....so it seemed like extra money we didn't need to spend. Plus, they keep telling us the planet is warming up....

Is your Ranger 4 wheel drive? I'm assuming that your Ranger is a side by side. A plow for your Ranger is probably the best way to go, and the cheapest. We have a plow that fits on my ATV. I use it around the house until the snow gets too deep.

yes its 4wd but it doesn't start when it's really cold out ( we got a lemon....)
So that would be exactly what would happen to us. I think the truck is more reliable, and also 4wd plus we have chains for it ( somewhere....they still have to be located)
