What are you paying for gas?

Today, regular in this area is $4.09-$4.50, premium is $4.45 to $5.29. I wonder if they will have to change the pumps when they get to $10/gallon, like they did when it got above $0.99 in the 70s.... Sorry, sometimes my fingers just write what I am thinking.....
Good point🤔☹️

$6.01 - $7.19 US for 87 octane depending upon where you are in the province.

On Sunday, I will be driving from $6.00 to $6.79 US. I will be packing weight as well.

Who knows what the prices will be when I come back in two to three weeks. Once all this house sitting is over, its time to park the vehicles and enjoy back country living.

I saw 1.69 l for i guess 87( $6.39ca per us gallon , and 1.9999 for diesel,( $ 7.56ca per us gallon
Our fuel prices are usually higher because of taxes, but it has definitely gone up a bunch

$4.39 still.

In theory we should reach a point of stagnation on gas prices before then next huge jump in inflation.

Went to a local reservation here at $4.159 with a tad less than 3/4 of a tank. $39.00 and change to fill. One other thing I did notice though is that normally I get from there to here with the gauge needle still on full. This time, not so much. It is just edging off that mark. I had heard that the current fuel is not the same, that it seems to be diluted, that it seems somehow less "powerful" for lack of a better term. Curious if others are seeing the same.
If they upped the ethanol percentage you would get worse mileage. Ethanol "may" burn cleaner and "may" be better for the environment but it has less energy per gallon compared to gasoline meaning the fuel injectors have to pump more fuel into the engine to get the same amount of power.

Do a fuel mileage check on paper with a pencil (not the car computer) and compare using 100% gasoline to using an ethanol blend. There will be a big difference. I don't recall the exact calculations but (15 years ago) I think E-85 had to be about 35 cents per gallon cheaper to make up for the lost mileage. I am not sure how that math will work out now with the higher gas prices.

the other hand trick with ethanol is that it absorbs water so some times you are paying for condensation.

If you compare BTUs per pound then gasoline has about 30% more power than ethanol. The problem with that comparison is that the BTUs actually produced depends on the temperature difference and the rate of burn.
Gasoline in its high octane version can be run in a properly configured engine with an 11 : 1 compression ratio. Ethanol can be run in a properly configured engine with a 15 : 1 compression ratio. At that compression gasoline will detonate and cause damage to the engine. Ethanol burns very well at that pressure and you can lean the fuel with very little power change. Add water to the alcohol (80% Ethanol to 20% water) and the mix will generate more power than pure alcohol due to the slower burn rate and the pressure generated by the water turned into super-heated steam which increases the push on the piston after the fuel begins to cool.
Under the right conditions Ethanol can provide better economy with the same power as an engine of the same displacement running gasoline.

NOTE: running both fuels in the same engine will cost about 20 to 30% in either power or mileage with Ethanol. (not both)

Ouch. Yesterday, there were still two gas stations around here that had gas under $4. Today, 24 hours later, the cheapest is $4.15.

We can get the dyed diesel for farm use at the unmanned pump in our town. I'll have to check the price, it's alot cheaper at least for tractor use.

You know, I haven't seen any red diesel out here. It's ranching country with lots of tractors so I'm sure someone sells it...

These high fuel prices don't seem to affect people from driving or taking their toys out. I still see a lot of people pulling trailers loaded with snow machines, atv's and boats. I wish I had their money.

I use my atv every day out here to take alfalfa to the cows and run around to do chores. There are also more people using them to run to the mail boxes (4 miles) and a few that run to the closest town. Its cheaper than using my truck, and can be more fun too!

Good idea. They never check private vehicles. I should start buying the cheap stuff.

FJB

They do here and in Tx. If they dip your tank and it comes out with red diesel it used to be a $200 fine for a first offence and goes up from there.

I've got 2 atvs and a side by side, so does everyone else around here. I use mine everyday for chores, work and running my traps. I was referring to people taking trailer loads of atvs and snow machines out just for recreation and how the high fuel prices haven't seemed to have affected them. Its their money to spend how they see fit. It was just an observation on my part that fuel could go much higher before it changes driving behavior for most people.

In some places cops will park at the bottom of a steep grade and watch for black smoke coming out of motor homes and pickup trucks. Black smoke usually means that they're cheating and using off-road diesel. I hope they fine the hell out of these people. Off-road diesel is meant for use in tractors, farm equipment and off-road construction equipment only. Its cheaper because there's no road tax added. If too many people cheat the system they'll end up ruining it for those of us that have a legitimate use for it.

Monday March 7, I filled up one car. $3.72 per gallon for lowest octane offering.
One day later, Tuesday March 8, I filled up another car. $3.99 per gallon, same octane, same gas station.

I hate to see what it might have gone up to by today, Sunday March 13.

Went to top off my tank and saw this...

My truck will put off a bit of black smoke going up hill under a load with regular diesel.
