While eating one of my kids "cuties" you know those small oranges that are marketed to kids, I got to wondering that when the SHTF I would no longer be able to get these "cuties" most likely. Then I got to thinking what other foods I would miss. Now, my diet remains fairly simple, we rarely go out to eat and we try to eat only the meat I harvest (both fish and game) but obviously I'm not the great white hunter and my family wouldn't be able to survive on my kills so we have to supplant that with the usual chicken and beef from the market. We also have quite a few veggies that I grow that we use. What I'm trying to get at is that most of this stuff I believe I'll be able to keep eating when SHTF.

The stuff ill sorely miss? Chinese food, cuties, pineapple, avacadoes, and yes the occasional visit to any of the big fast food chains.

So what would you guys (and gals) sorely miss?

I'd miss bananas, dark chocolate, and Burger King french fries. Oh and I will really miss diet Sunkist.

Caffine in general....I have a supply of coffee stocked away but that will only last so long
mainly Monster energy drinks.....its my life juice right now.
Other things: Citrus fruits - Orange Juice - Candies - Chocolate- and Bacon!!! (recently talked to you guys + my neighbor about pigs from the stories I never wanna get any)
I am working on changing my diet over to being closer to a raw vegan diet (not because I am a veggitarian) because in my neck of the woods its going to be whats available once my food storage runs low. I dont wanna shock my system too badly when SHTF

You don't have to go without bacon, we've canned a lot of bacon it's easy to do and the bacon still tastes great a year later, and you not only get bacon out of the jar you also get bacon grease.

At home,i'm a regular meat and potatoes and a veggie kinda guy,our diets won't change drastically after, but the foods i'd miss the most (and I think I can speak for the rest of my family too) is the occasional good pizza, chinese food and even bigmac's.

I will miss Del Taco and In N' Out!

I think Waffle House will bring on intestinal Armageddon!

My hubby is in love with that stuff...unfortunately they dont sell it here in Indiana :)

I thought of another food....the one I would probably miss most of all....green olives best food ever

Most meats, Mtn. Dew and chesse (sounds odd but I like many different kinds of old amsterdam, gouda and most of all parmisa)

Ice Cream! I know you can make it but when its a hot summer evening and there is no electric you could not make it. I love all ice cream, but chocolate chip mint is like meth to me!! Gotta have it!!
My second is donuts. Lucky for us we can make them at home. My wife makes them a couple times a year. I would still get those!!

I think coffee will be one of the best barter items out there. People forget that caffeine is addictive. And people will be jonesing to get it when the stores run out. We have been storing the blocks of coffee for just this reason. We don't drink the "Vacuum packed blocks" of coffee ourselves because we enjoy fresh coffee... but in a pinch. We will! I even thought about buying some bags of "Green Coffee" and then roasting it when the time comes. My problem comes... when I roast it, I tend to roast it too dark. I know I can stop it sooner but for some reason... I keep thinking I will enjoy the darker... and I don't. <------ (must have mental issues)

Coke. Pretty much addicted to it. Coke Cola that is. Didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea Hana.
I LOVE Coca-cola!!! Thursday I went on a job interview and they asked about how I feel about not drinking (its a Christian School). I told her that I have a beer every now and then but I can EASILY give it up... though I would have a problem though if she asked me to switch from Coke to Pepsi. She laughed.

I used to snort coke but had to stop because the ice cubes kept getting caught in my nose. LOL
Master... you caught me off guard... that is some funny stuff!!! Thankfully I wasn't drinking a coke other wise it would have come out my nose.

Diet Dr. Pepper and deli cookies. I buy two types chocolate chip for me and sugar cookies for the dogs (yes I give my two spoiled rotten dogs sugar cookies) and Maxwell House French roast, even though I am trying to stockpile it (Anyone have any idea how long coffee still good for?)

After it is ground... they say about two weeks (but honestly, I can't tell much difference). There are four things that break down coffee: oxygen, light, heat, and moisture. So if you can store your coffee in an air tight container and place it in a cool place (not the freezer) that would really help. Don't put your coffee in the freezer because there are delicate oils in coffee that will breakdown in the freezer. Also don't store your coffee in an open bag in the fridge... the ground coffee is very porous and will absorb the odors of the food in the fridge.

The best way is to buy the green coffee bean (that is coffee that hasn't been roasted yet). People say that the green beans will last a couple of years. Then you roast what you need as you need it... and then grind what you want to brew. Also keep in mind that the coffee will taste best about 48 hours after you roast it... don't try to seal the freshly roasted beans right afterwards unless your mylar bags have a one way valve in them otherwise your bags will swell up ... see the beans release CO2 after roasting for a few days (this is why those hard vacuum packed coffee bricks are older coffee). Sorry I ramble.

My list is too long for me to type cuz I'm feelin lazy but suffice to say some have been listed already but one of my true loves (I have several) is home made chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. And I mean truly homemade, not the boxed Betty Crocker stuff.

Grrr I hate it when I double post! Anyway, well seasoned ribeye steak cooked rare to med rare. Worthy of it's own post even though I've cut way back on my red meat consumption.

Hi there, a quick question on the canning of bacon. Is it something i can find online on the how to's and or are there special hints one needs to know? Thank you
