Once food shortages make the mainstream news you can bet that there will be nation wide runs on everything... No one learned from March of 2020 and they are all about to find out their hair is on fire........

I'm not seeing it quite this bad but I though this photo from 1/8/2022 of a NYC store say's volumes about the reality of the shortages in the cities (I found it on CNN).

It kind of aligns with what I am seeing........ Even if it does not make the daily news....

Something really stinks down there. We saw some bare shelves after the flooding in the Frazer Valley, but the only thing that is light now, is some brands of dog and cat food and bread.

I've been showing your pics to hubby and he has finally stopped whinging about me buying more for the pantry. He made a barter with the new neighbors yesterday. A sheep in return for me drilling post holes next summer. I so, do not want to do that, and I already have a sheep in the freezer. But I cannot renege on a neighborly barter.

I went to a different store this morning and they had juice. Hubby likes grapefruit juice. I got 7 jugs, left 3. It is right at the front of the store so not sure about other shortages in this store - didn't have time to poke around.

Kroger today was interesting. Husband asked me to get a few things...a six pack of Perrier bottles, not the big ones. They had a few all right but I had to pay over $7 for them. And he wanted Siggi yogurt. Didn't have the flavors he likes, so he's stuck with 2 strawberry and 8 peach. Oh well. And he wanted the burrito sized no carb brown tortillas. No go. Really low on pasta and prepared items were one on the shelf, nothing behind. Sticker shock everywhere. I used to grab a couple of 12 oz cans of Kroger brand roast beef for the shelf, and maybe paid just under $4 a can. Today they were $7 and some change per can. I got a few jars of Armour dried beef to add to the shelf. Still just under $3. Husband likes no fat cottage cheese, and they had it, but it all expires in 6 days. I got him one. Cleared out of milk except for the $$ kind, but I don't need it.

I was just chatting with a guy on a local page. He said his daughter is having a birthday party and wanted hamburgers/cheeseburgers. After hitting several stores in Grand Rapids he didn't find any......at all. He then proceeded to head toward Lansing, about an hour drive. He stopped at every Meijer that he saw from the highway along the way, he didn't find any burger until he got to Lansing. There were limits and he was only able to get 7 pounds.

Now that's a dedicated Dad, but things are not looking too good.

Went to 3 grocery stores today, one a WM. They were almost fully stocked. Meat and diary were full except milk in small containers. Plenty of gallons...

No Raisin Bran to be found anywhere. I only buy one small box of cereal each year. Some days CFS really kicks my butt. Preparing food is out of the question but if I don't eat a bad cycle starts that can last days. One reason I keep peanut butter and crackers in the house.

Anyway, as cereal goes Raisin Bran isn't too bad so I get one box every January. I pour it in a air tight container, till now. The cereal isle at all three stores had empty sections. Didn't see regular corn flakes either.

Ground chuck 80/20 10lb stick was $33.+ Back in November I saw ground chuck at the high end grocery for $8.15 a pound. Didn't notice current price per one pound pkg despite the fact I walked by it.

I was trying to get cereal at Krogers today, digital deal for $1.49 a box (Kelloggs family sized). Husband does the digital stuff for me on his phone and I just have to input his number at the register. Well...four shelves empty of all the Kelloggs. And the sale started today and I was there at 10:30 am! But hey, there was Raisin Bran.

You are in a state with a coast line, easier to get food from the sea/ship, less truck & train travel in my HO.

Your statement would indicate that you think all food is imported....

Your response was to @Peanut in Alabama, land locked except for Mobile, but it is close to the southern most cross country interstate I-10 which usually does not suffer from winter traffic issues....

I hit several stores yesterday and all of them were pretty well stocked, compared to how empty they were last week. There were some bare spots,, but overall had plenty.

Dog and cat food has been a problem here for awhile, especially cat food.

Went to the small market today. Pretty well stocked. Milk and juice was pretty low but lots of fresh fruit and veggies (which is why I go to this particular place).
They were getting low on chips and tortillas, and only one kind of local bread (as opposed to the usual 4 choices) but I make all my own bread anyway.

So THAT explains why Amazon had the big blowout sale on Kelloggs family sized cereal earlier this week. They match or exceed the major box store/supermarket sales, but I don't always know which chain they're matching.
They're probably sold out by now. Amazon has not been immune to the shortages.

We're doing an event from church, feeding a meal to a group of homeless in a camp set up with huts and cots normally used for ice fishing. The person in our group decided we should serve taco soup. I haven't purchased burger in quite a while, so the prices were a little shocking. They had some of the 4% fat for a high price, but were out of others. Kroger stores, called King Soopers, are on strike in Colorado, so I won't go there. I've got to figure out where I can go to get burger that is not more than I can afford. I may be out of luck.

I was pleasantly surprised at my local Meijer today, a little short on chicken, but other meats were there, the prices though......ouch. Nearly 7 bucks a pound for 85/15 burger, 6.19 a pound for 80/20, but they did have some.

Yes, but now that you call me on it, most of Kroger food stuff is made in their plants, but much of the supplies come from over seas. Like coffee beans & rice, tea& many spices.
So it’s a mixed bag.Kroger does have thief on trucks & some contract carriers.

Is there a restaurant supply store there?

Yes, but I tried to go to one a while ago and couldn't even get in because I didn't have a business license. I'll try Costco and a few other places.
Wow! Anyone can go in here. If you were to take a copy of the church "certificate" / 501C??? they might. Just trying ~ it sure is crazy.

I don't have a 501C3 or a copy of one. I'll figure it out. Safeways are super busy here because so many people are not going to King Soopers due to the strike. There are other places and we are doing this meal in a week, so I have time to do some shopping.
