What Shortages are You Seeing?

The people that I know who are stocking up are doing so (not necessarily due to 'impending' food shortages) but to try and keep ahead of inflation as much as possible. Either way works for me.....the more others are prepared, the less the panic will spread.

20 something years ago I got a fantastic deal on bulk organic short grain brown rice. I oven canned it (dry) in pint mason jars, and I've been using it ever since. When I open a jar, its just like fresh. No rancidity at all.

I stock up on sales because [1] It's financially sensible to spend less instead of more, and [2] it's handy to have extra when anything comes up and you can't get what you need for a period of time.

Roma tomatoes. Last few weeks they have been slim to none. The ones they do have, when they have them, are soft and wrinkled like me, lol.

That's what I do too.

Roma tomatoes. Last few weeks they have been slim to none. The ones they do have, when they have them, are soft and wrinkled like me, lol.

They are not in season. I've not had a good fresh tomato since ours finished up (in December!)

Evidently our valley is out of propane until Tuesday. None of the suppliers have any in stock. Just one more caution.

Thats right, we won't discuss the obvious anymore. IF you have money, there is little by way of shortages for the most part if you know where to look.

And if it is waxed, I would prefer bees wax.

I haven't looked at thread in a while because a couple years ago when I was doing a bunch of sewing, I purchased several spools, mostly black and white, on some sale. I noticed even then that the price of thread was not what it used to be.

Hold on to your hat, they were almost $1.50 higher than two weeks ago.
Same ounces though.
Didn't find any Cherry ones though.
Terri we have those chips you like back in stock.
And we had Dr. Pepper in stock for the first time in a while.
No hand stitch stronger thread for hand stitching quilts though.

We did find a pack finally. They're pretty good, arent they? I started liking them better than the orange ones. He keeps them around in case he over does it on his insulin. It pops him right back. Tractor Supply used to always have them, but lately, you never know.

Beef ramen is getting spotty again, so is chef Boyardee Alfredo chicken Beefaroni and ravioli are still plentiful.
the good paper towels come and go. DG home are crap. Cottonelle TP is getting spotty too.

After what I've spent just to top things off in the last couple of weeks...........I'd have to say there is a shortage of money atleast at our house. Geeeeeezzz Louise prices are crazy. One thing in particular was the dry coffee creamer. The big container has went from $5 something to over $6 now and the next size down that actually fits in my cupboard is over $4. I didn't buy either one

Of course going to Walmart, I see there's a shortage of common sense too

Beef bullion in the larger jars, usually sold in the hispanic section is and has been off & on. They usually have the Chicken and Tomato, but not always Beef.

While at the store yesterday I noticed something, they have been running low on bread, this week they removed half of the bread display cases/shelves to make room for isles. I guess if there are no empty shelves there are no shortages, and if there are no shelves they can't be empty. I also read about the lack of water for Agriculture and then I read an article about why the US will not have food shortages even as the rest of the world is seeing a looming food Crisis. I think the establishment is trying to limit the public awareness of the issue as long as they can. My bet is they will try to keep it invisible until Late November or early December.

People who think shortages in other parts of the world won't affect the US because we "produce our own food", are badly misinformed.

We got pasta and saltines coming out of our ears here. I'm talking full shelves. It probably doesn't hurt that the world's largest pasta company has a factory 25 miles away though.

I'm seeing weird temporary shortages again. Certain flavors of powdered drink mixes are impossible to find at Walmart. But the Hy-Vee grocery has them. Cereals are hit and miss. My Premier Protein low carb cereal is only in stock about half the time. Most staples like milk and eggs have been well supplied but the little yogurt cups my daughter likes were mostly gone last week. Really weird...
