What Shortages are You Seeing?

Ha. My husband would agree with you. It's ok, but not my favorite.
Filled a cart at Aldi today and it hit $300, and it was not even anything special. Did get their 10 lb bags of Tyson chicken quarters. Bought four of them. Cooked them all when I got home, and I have 2 gallon bags of meat to put in the freeze dryer. They did have sugar today but it was $2.45 for 4lbs. I was surprised when it hit $2

Had to go hunt up some allergy meds, hit a local Target, and their pharmacy section was wiped out. Hit a different Target and theirs was fine, and they’re within a ten minute drive of each other. Beats me. Things are just weird.

The farmer’s market is where I get a lot of our food, and that’s been well stocked. It’s never cheap unless you’re buying in bulk, and even then not always, but the prices haven’t gone up much, so that’s been nice.
Ephedra might be a natural sinus medication, it's a stimulant.

Today I hit 2 stores trying to get things on the wife's list:
But, before I get to that I want to say that it is alarming how things are emptying out or how stores like W-m are reducing the space for food within their stores, they are constantly re-arranging to avoid having the empty shelf space. What alarms me about all this is how we are being conditioned to accept the empty spaces, it's no big deal anymore and that is scary.

Back to today. In the produce department they were low as usual (under 50% of the spaces had produce, but they had some cooking carrots). There was a nice lady stocking green onions, I asked her how often they get shipments, every day. She then told me that they order stuff and are told it is not available or there will be a few day delivery delay, she said it was happening on anything that was not being provided by local growers.

The unexpected shortages were in simple things, lemon juice (use it a lot canning tomatoes) was just gone, then the instant pudding was low and butterscotch was just not available, I went on line and finally ordered some at $5 a box!

I fear that we are only a few months away from having major food shortages and the world is just ignoring it.....
It shouldn't bother me, but my internal alarm bells on supply issues for everything are just driving me crazy....
I've been getting our lemon juice and lime juice (for salsa) at the restaurant supply store. Don't know if you have one of those around, but might be an option.

I bought a 50# bag of the sugar I use this past spring. I don't bake often and only use a little in my coffee - should last me a little while. The real reason though is because you don't go messin' with my coffee. That little sprinkle is important!

I haven't been to stores in the past week but what I've been noticing in general is lack of fresh produce. It's hit and miss. We have a little farm-stand type store that has good local produce at average/reasonable prices. Buying local and in season helps. Who said corn was $1.25 ea.? 6 ears for $5 here - was 3 for a dollar at Wmt. a couple months ago.

I've noticed crazy corn prices, too. 50 cents a piece is stupid expensive. Aldi special today was 4 ears in a plastic wrapped pack for $1.99. NOT a special! I like to keep flats of canned corn around....I use it for baby and younger turkeys, as a treat and to put on weight. Those used to be under 50 cents a can at Aldi, and not anymore! But I still try to stay up on at least 4 flats.

Try $8 dozen at the local stand. High fuel and other expenses are showing everywhere.
Half the stuff at Aldi’s is beyond what I will pay. Did look twice at the Oreos, almost $6. They stayed on the shelf. And I’m sure NY isn’t much higher than what you have, or will have soon.
It wasn’t too long ago that I thought I might have too much. Times change in a hurry.

Went to make an appointment to get a referral to a specialist from my GP at their local clinic and found out via their message service that they are no longer working on the weekends!

Incredible!
What is worse is that my female GP has moved to a clinic in a little town 45 mins away.
That clinic also isn't open on weekends and you have to book the appointment on-line.
Medicare won't cover the cost in full or in part of the appointment so I'm going to have to pay the full whack.

You know that this country is turning into a third world ******** when clinics aren't open during regular trading hours of 8am to 12pm on a Saturday.
What about the people who actually work for a living?
When the hell are they supposed to see a GP?
Go to the hospital and sit there for 6 to 8 hours only to be told to go and see a GP? Really?
So, they're going to have to ask for time off work, get docked so they can see their doctor?
It would be better for them to call in sick and get sick leave entitlements for the entire day and get paid
then ask for a few hours off during the day.

Where to start on this report? Sweet Jesus Christ it was bad!
No bottled water but the cup sized ones, it was just water, not even distilled,
I got the LAST bag of cat food in a usable size, no Vienna sausage, I got the last 4 potted meat in the store. what bread there is is almost 4$ a loaf for name brand, most of the OTC medicine is gone, many canned vegetables and soups, they still have tuna in a bag, corned beef hash just topped 3$ a can, no ramen but the expensive stuff. plenty of over priced sodas, chips and junk food however. I re stocked my chocolate bin. I notice the "FUN" size is getting smaller a few lunch meats and some condiments and plenty of the usual dollar store crap except the automotive isle had some pliers and maybe three bottles of 20Wt. I buzzed my aunt that had just come back from the super center, she said everything there was for rich folks or junk.
I hate it when I'm right.
Famine by fall!

Saturday we went to Costco. The fruit & veg area was very well stocked. In fact, that is where I got the peaches I canned today (they were fantastic btw--freestone and very tasty). They were $7.29 for a box of 10 peaches weighing in at about 4 1/4 pounds each. There weren't empty spots but I did notice some things not there. No sardines. Plenty of tuna, half a pallet of pink salmon. Plenty of their brand canned chicken. Interesting thing is one of the sampler tables was not for some new product they're carrying but for their own canned chicken brand. I thought that was odd. Got a 8 can case of Goya red kidneys for $7.99. Butter was up. Used to be around $12 for a 4lb package. Now it's $14.49. Checked when I was at Target today and it's still cheaper at Costco for the equivalent amount.

The one thing I did notice though. There was no one looking at the televisions, electronics, outdoor goods or even in the area that has the small appliances, home goods, and tools. Everyone was in the food sections of the store. Most of the shopping baskets were food, hygiene and cleaning products in them.

That observation in itself should scare the living hell out of everyone who reads it! Good reporting!

TommyIce was my horse. That moniker always gets me to this explanation. LOL

Dude, I a chick, so if you can conjour up Sam Elliot or Daniel Craig to bring that feast to me I'd be golden.

Keep the mushrooms--those things scare the heck out of me ever since I saw The Beguiled.

:peace:

I'm really sorry @Tommyice but Sam is busy with me ;)

Didn't see any big shortages until I got to the pet food aisle- pretty bare and not a bit of cat litter anywhere. Seems to be a common problem this past few months. I got everything I was looking for, but overspent by about 20. Not sure what happened.

I was wondering where Sam was!!😉

I haven't noticed any shortages at the store.

But at work we have been having a hard time getting everything from irons and steel coils to dunnage. Lead time on parts is insane. In 2021 we made around two and a half billion cans at my facility. We will be lucky to make half that this year.

Not a shortage, but shortage related.
Last month a jumbo catfish dinner was 14$
THIS month it's 18$! Willie says his prices have almost
DOUBLED in the past two months! I F*KING hate this regime!

almost no turkeys in local walmart---a couple small turkey breat rolls and ground turkey. over #4 a lb right now. i m planning on getting one next week. i heard a update show today that said the last week over 500k turkeys culled and 2 million more chicken egg layers culled . said govt is paying ranchers double or more to cull now and since food is getting more expensive they are starting to do that to financially survive. i dont know how wide spread that is across country. but im getting some turkey. might be the last for some time.

I have 4 (20+lb) turkeys and 14 (12 -16 lb) chickens in the freezer.

I am just back from town. 3 dinky chickens in a bag now cost $46.79. That's $15.00 for a scrawny stewing chicken.

The roosters I butchered a few weeks ago were 3x their size and I thought they were pathetic. I just got an attitude readjustment.
